A [Washington State] mother who allegedly allowed her 2-year-old son to ingest a fatal dose of methamphetamine pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a count of first-degree manslaughter.

Court Commissioner Meagan Foley ordered Alyia Iverson, 26, jailed in lieu of $250,000 bail during the defendant’s arraignment in Pierce County Superior Court.

Foley also ordered Iverson to stay away from children should she make bail.

Iverson answered a few perfunctory questions from Foley during the brief hearing but otherwise remained quiet.

Her son, Nathan Iverson, died in December 2012, and medical examiners later reported he had enough meth and THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, in his system to kill an adult.

According to charging documents, several people were doing drugs at his mother’s home when Nathan drank some water from a marijuana bong.

Iverson then allegedly put her child to bed but later placed him on the floor when he became fussy, the documents show.

Two hours later, she discovered he was not breathing. She called 911, but paramedics were unable to revive the toddler.

State social workers had been monitoring Iverson since 2009 after receiving complaints she was mistreating her son and his older sister, state records show. She lost custody of the children in 2011 but later got them back.
