Moment in games where shitjustgotreal.gif

Chrono Trigger:

Day of Lavos 1999 AD

One of my favorite gaming moments. It was short, but a very chilling scene.

Bayonetta

After a really long and kinda boring shoot'em'up section, this fight blasts out of nowhere and turns the game to 11.

The definition of shit just got real. Good times.

Oh man, I'll never forget that one corridor. The one you see sticking out to the right in that picture. I was coming back from the garden and had dumbly stashed my shotgun and had nothing but a pistol (because hey, it's just weak zombies in the mansion right...? yeah, I was a noob), and I'm casually running down this hall when this hunter leaps from that right side corridor and startles me like I've never been startled ever before. I screamed so loudly my dad interrupted his work to ask me if I was all right. lol.

Valkyria Chronicles
when Isara Gunther dies
. Pretty much changed the entire mood of the story and reminded the characters a new sense of purpose.

FFT has about ten of those.
A pair of which make you save JUST before them, just to be sure you can't go back and grind.
Then, shit gets REAL when you get the final classes, which rotflstomp anything and anyone.

Birth By Sleep plot is "Meh" until the True End, in which.. uh.
Same thing for 999, at the power of ten.

Resistance 2

After you fight Daedalus, hale absorbs all of Daedalus' powers and you then have to escape while going god mode on everything.

Boost Guardian in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. The most difficult boss I ever played during the Gamecube generation. I would like to see a death count on that battle alone cause it was From Software level bad.

Worst "Shit just got real" moment: Half-Life 2 Episode 2 ends with one and...that's it. We get no follow up for 6 years and counting.

I would argue Ellie's confession scene just prior was a much bigger "shit just got real moment"....
the only time another character has admitted to knowing of the gman
I was a huge fan of the series and that just blew me away

The Windia portrait on the static decoration frame has been pre-emptively wearing a "WTF" expression for the whole game in anticipation of just how real shit gets at this point.

I saw this screen, HAD to buy it on the pure interface alone.
I'm now at that level. UUUUUUUUUUUUUGH.

That is exactly where I stopped, and I've purchased the game on three different platforms. It's really amazing, but I just can't wrap my brain around it.

People in the gaf thread were getting pretty far, I think.

"Huh, he just flies around? Guess I'll fire some arrows... hah, got him! Oh... Oh shit... Oh shit OH SHIT"

*Sudden flash of inspiration*

"FUCKIN' YEAH LET'S DO THIS!"

Such a cool fight. I found it a bit clunky (Well, I found the game as a whole clunky), but the whole concept was awesome. Same with the desert one.

Done it. That took an hour and some, i fear what's to come.
Still great game. And shit is definitely getting real.

Dragon's Dogma post game. And all of Dark Arisen, from your first time through to the 2nd and 3rd replay variations. That thing that was a boss? Now it's a regular enemy!

Tonewise post game is insane though- the true ending and the post game environment is a huge "shit just got real" moment.

I gotta second and third this all over. I'm playing new game+ x5 probabaly lvl 105 or so and the dark island is still fucked up and amazing. cant wait for new game.

TLOU (multiple):

Tess' final scene
First Bloater encounter
"He ain't even hurt" (after Bill's Town)
The basement where you have to turn on the generator
Henry/Sam deaths in the same cutscene
Joel impaled
Winter
Joel interrogating the guard in the hospital
"You'll just come after her"

I was throwing tranqs at a Royal Ludroth to complete a capture quest, then all of a sudden I'm one hit KOed and all I see is a screen full of this guy's foot:

such a good 'AND I WILL MAKE THEM PAY FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE' moment
