Thanks a lot everyone! It's great to have your support
Do you think you could push for the ps2 Monster World Collection to get a port to psn? We've been struggling a bit with the look of the Hu-Man and it may still change a bit in the final version. We're almost there.
Absolutely that's a big yes! Monster Boy has a completely interconnected open world, free roam all across the map. When you visited all areas and open the auto-map, you'll see a beautiful coherent and connected world map with different colors for each area.
Boy that art style is not very nice to look at. Maybe just because I've been playing the other one for a while now? I don't know...
You mean the Switch version? Yes it will release before Monster Boy.Will this release before or after Oceanhorn ? Since you're publishing both titles.

I think we released visual samples too early in development. If we would've known how the final game looks in the early days we would've waited. There's really a lot of progress in graphics department since we started but the online material that's visible varies between horrible and nice. Final game looks excellent and we'll share new material later.
Coding and Graphics work was certainly the majority of work for Dragon's Trap. It's also a completely different story as its a simple game with many planes to walk. In Monster Boy we can't make a painting for each room as the gameplay is more dynamic with physics elements and even whole rooms that can be turned 360 degrees with the frog tongue ability. There's crazy stuff going on in Monster Boy so the graphics need specific tile-system.Dragon's trap's probably had most of its resources on graphics too, given that levels are pretty much the same as they were in the original.

Regarding animations: Monster Boy dynamically shows the weapon you use or armor you wear - the trade off is a reduced way to animate the character. In the end it's more fun to exactly see what you equip and see the effect everywhere in the game.
seeing the different gear on the character.
Thanks a lot! Now we just need to get the game finishedI really can't wait for it.
Monster Boy compares best to the newer Mega Drive/Genesis games: 'Wonder Boy in Monster World' and 'MWIV'. We continue the series with a fully licensed successor in all but name. That means we officially borrow from the whole Wonder Boy universe with many nods to the classics but offer an all new adventure. The gameplay in Monster Boy is very modern, quite dynamic and the world is bigger than prior adventures. Variety of enemies, places to explore and gameplay styles is insane.
This is certainly an improvement. Thank you for sharing. We've just made a new blog post about the final graphics work.

There's an old/new comparison of a scene that is in the demo but looks different in the final game.

Lovely work on this game, I'm excited to see more of the colorful backgrounds. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

Christ that's one hell of an improvement. The constant delays are actually making sense now - the game is transforming in to something wonderful.
Lovely, glad that all this extra time bring a lot of improvements.
It's actually a bit embarrassing to see the old images on the first page in this thread. Woah! These need an update! The screens on the press kit page are not the latest but much better: http://press.fdg-entertainment.com/sheet.php?p=monster_boy
Updated OP with those.
As someone who not only discovered the beauty that is the Monster World games through that Dragon's Trap remake, this looks really good.
Hi Everyone,
Monster Boy producer here ^_^
I wanted to check in much earlier but for some reason my NeoGAF registration took quite a while.
Just wanted to let y'all know we're reading and appreciate your comments and feedback. It actually helped us big time during our development process. I know some of you guys from our blog posts and I'll update you here and on the blog when I got any relevant news to announce.
This is an exciting time as we're about to nail Monster Boy's gameplay and design after a long road. It's so much fun to play and I can't wait to be able to share the experience with all of you. Meanwhile we very much enjoyed playing the remake of Wonder Boy: Dragon's Trap and hope you did, too.
cheers!
Will there be a physical for Xbox One and PS4 versions?
It's too early to confirm anything but Switch and PS4 have the best chances for a physical release because of a less risky business. That said we love Xbox One too - everyone from the ID@Xbox Team is super nice and helpful. We'll see! Hopefully there's enough interest coming from players of all platforms while we're pitching to retail distributors. The amount of Twitter votes for a physical copy of Monster Boy have been very encouraging so far. Thanks for the continued interest!
I approve of this message! and of this game
In fact, I have left my job at Media Molecule a few months ago and with a couple of friends we are independently working on a different Wonder Boy / Monster World related project! I don't know when we will be able to announce it. But I guess this message itself is a bit of an announce! So there might be not one but two games. -- Game Atelier's one is more advanced and will probably be released way before ours! Eager to play it.
After being blown away by Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap on Switch, I'm totally in for this on Switch when it releases. It looks like it's getting just as much love from the developers involved. Should be a treat!
I never played the original version, so this will be a great way to experience it for the first time.

We currently completely rewrite 2 bigger areas of the game and changed a sizeable bit of the story which we didn't like anymore. We certainly move forward very well but can't announce any dates yet. Sorry for our continued stretch here but we spent too much time on the game to tolerate imperfect parts in it. We want to finish it properly. ^_^ Hopefully our efforts pay off and we can reboot the series with Monster Boy. Quality is sooo good ..really
Very nice looking!
