Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate monster spotlight: Teostra, the Flame King Dragon

One more monster spotlight!

The majestic Teostra returns... and he's more explosive than ever before!

The Teostra has always been a very powerful monster, and with his time away since Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, he has learned a number of new tricks that make him even more terrifying! Most of his old attacks and abilities remained the same: the really wide and far-reaching flamethrower attack is still one his main moves; and he is still surrounded by extreme heat most of the time – burning any who approach him!

However, his explosive attacks received a few tweaks based on a new mechanic introduced in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Previously, his main explosive attack was his area-of-effect move that spreads an explosive dust around him is largely the same. Now when he does his claw or tail swipes, he will also spread some dust that can catch onto you and explode seconds later, either on its own or when you get hit again. Yes, that is the same effect as Brachydios' slime!

So just as little recap, the Teostra can: use flamethrower attacks, burn anyone in close proximity, spread devastating explosive dust, and afflict you with Blastblight (formerly known as Slimeblight). On top of all that, he also has a new super-nova style attack that will make short work of anyone caught off guard! Are you ready for this?

Well, here are some incentives to try and take this beast down, a look at his armor and some weapons:

[see pics below]

It's also worth noting all his weapons used to be Fire element, but are now mostly Blast (Slime)... but don’t worry, Brachydios is also back for MH4U, so now there's a wider variety of explosive weapons.

Here's the pics :

I hope they bring back Lunastra. It was complete BS that she wasn't in MH4.

It's disappointing that they made his weapons slime. Please tell me that it's at least been severely nerfed compared to how broken it is in MH3U.

I know Slime has a lot of haters, but I really appreciate it when I have tedious solo-farming to do. People just need to exercise some self-discipline and resist using them constantly. Good to see it return anyway.

Either way, Teostra nor Lunastra were not exactly some of my old favourites. Curious to see what they are like these days though.

Nothing particularly wrong with slime as an option from the player's perspective, it just wasn't balanced very well in 3U. For instance, the Kelbi bow was far too overpowered while the Brachy bowguns were almost useless due to how limited slime shot is. I'm sure those are things that can be fixed for 4U.

BTW, the slime element has been changed to Blast element in MH4, and that name is retained on MH4U..

and Blast element has been nerfed, I have checked that myself, the explotions cause a lot less knock back on the mosnter, and (this is more of a personal experience) I believe now is needed more element to make an explotion...

Teostra looks really cool. I am still hoping Yama Tsukami is back in the MH4G/U, but I don't have high hopes for that.
Slime is nice but never really used it, as an HH users, there was better supportive weapons.
Good thing Hunting Horn isn't exclusively a supportive weapon.

While I'm still getting the game. I can't help but feel very indifferent to quite a few of the monster designs this time around.

Luna will be there. I get the feeling she was held back just for a G version.

Crimson and White Fatalis will probably be around too.

I'm also a little baffled by the slime element choice. I'm guessing they are using that as an explanation for how it could generate those explosions. But I was pretty sure it was those fiery particles it would put out.

The reason why the weapons are slime now is because it's called "bomb" or something like that in Japan. The slime status visual effects are also different, matching the powder Teostra explodes instead of the green to red effect of Brachydios slime (which is too bad, because I loved that visual timer).
The low resolution probably does't help either.
Predictable.

Do we know the who cover monster is in MH4U?

It's anyones guess after Capcpom America changed Brachydios to Azure Rathalos.

Eh, we're getting the G version which is better anyway. If that's their plan, I'm OK with waiting.

I'm not (In case it wasn't obvious from my post). I had finished MH3U last summer and have been craving new monsters ever since.

Hoping that Agnaktor is in this one. One of my favorite monsters to fight, and they don't even need to make a wall climbing animation for it.

Well, the mascot monster looks like a completely uninspired Rathian clone.

But I have no idea if the mascot monster will be on the cover after 3U. Hopefully we get Gore Magara, that one's a great design.

Sorry for the off-topic, but since its a 2/3DS game I would like to know, how is Nintendo dealing with digital games on 2/3DS? Im really inteterested on the platform but since I just buy digital games now I would like to know if Nintendo is using a proper account system for this stuff. Never played MH before and would like a 2DS to play this one.

Unfortunately they dont have a proper account system.

Unfortunately they dont have a proper account system.

that's not really true anymore...

They got an account system, and your stuff is bound to your account. But until now, your account is also bound to your 3ds (you can transfer it to another 3ds though.).
Seeing how far they came in the last few years, I'd say it's safe to bet that this problem will also be resolved in the near future.

Yeah, nah. People have appreciated (or didn't like, but that's rare) MH art design since the PS2 games.

Ok, that doesn't affect my original statement though. Even if the design for Teostra is good in concept art and pictures, the in-game model of him looks terrible in my opinion due to the low resolution of the 3DS screen.

Slime/Bomb weapons HAVE been nerfed thankfully. Also this guy has got a cool new move that people need to watch out for. He only does it when coming out of rage mode so look out.

Edit: the "super nova" attack I mean

God, this game is going to destroy MH3U and MHFU in terms of content.

I just hope the quest selection is better. I'm actually pretty disappointed in the selection of multiplayer quests for 3U because there straight up aren't quests for certain monsters.

Oh, thats good to hear! Damn, IM struggling not to buy a 2DS right now!

Which ones? The only monsters I remember being fightable only in the village were Alatreon and regular Ceadeus.

I'm on high rank right now and there don't seem to be quests for HIgh Arzuros, Lagombi, or Volvidon, from what I recall. They probably show up on other quests as random encounters, but that's kind of a pain compared to having a quest dedicated to them.
