Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate ships 4 million units

Just started playing this recently, and wow this is amazing. You get hooked real fast, the combat is visceral, there's so much to do between the large numbers of quests, loot, stuff to build, and types of weapons. Keep it up Capcom.

Why not I been playing MH since PS2 and wouldn't mind it coming to more systems = more money for the company

Not when the systems are as different as the 3DS and PS4. You'd either get an incredibly lazy port that would insult fans, or you'd need to spend tons of money developing a whole new game that likely won't sell as well as spending less of that same money on another 3DS title

TBH I would not mind ports like MH3U on WiiU was decent...

4 million for a handheld game that appeals to core gamers with brutally difficult and engaging boss fights? It's a miracle.

It won't happen until PS4 software can actually sell in Japan anyway, you guys should check the Media Create threads.

Wasn't there talk of a Monster Hunter coming to the PS4 from a Korean arm of Capcom (Verendus hinted at it)?

IIRC, it's going to be a sequel to Monster Hunter Frontier.

I think it holds weight because Capcom's strategy seems to be approaching the console with a Game-as-service mentality (Deep Down, Dragon's Dogma Online, Umbrella Corps) so a Monster Hunter as a service doesn't sound too farfetched.

A mainline entry, on the other hand, fat chance of that.

Wii U one didn't do that well, even for a Wii U game. And that's with it being the only online version of 3U as well. Plus I imagine it's at least a bit easier to port a 3DS game to Wii U than to ps4, though I might be wrong. Beyond which, I feel like PS4 players expect a lot more than Wii U players do. Don't get me wrong, I have no issue with a PS4 MH game, I just don't see it happening anytime soon. Maybe multiplat with NX when that comes out I guess, depending on what NX is like

Come on Capcom! Don't make us wait here in the US and have Monster Hunter Cross out in the US by next March!

Great! The Monster Hunter series is so addicting so I'm glad to see it grow like this! I hope they go even further with the climbing mechanics in 5!

anyway the more MH the better as long as I'm concerned for now I just hope cross comes through

I think Frontier could very well come to PS4, but probably never be localized. Plus, isn't frontier supposed to be pretty bad?

I love 4 so I'm glad it did well. I still at some point want to finish out the rest of the content for it, my hunting group kinda died though :(. I only got up to silver crown.

I'm excited to see where the series goes from here. I’d really like to see the series move beyond PS2 level assets, and I’m kind of excited that Capcom will probably be forced to do so.

Why did Capcom say it was a smash hit then?

Impressive, good series. Lots of fun to be had for many many hours. I have played lots of 3 but haven't had too much time to play 4 yet. Will get to it when I have time!

I think you missed something in the fine print.

Total worldwide shipments for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate have topped four million (download cards and Nintendo eShop download sales included), Capcom announced.

what did I miss?

Why not I been playing MH since PS2 and wouldn't mind it coming to more systems = more money for the company

I say that because every single thread about Monster Hunter constantly devolves in a useless discussion about why it isn't in a home console and why it isn't in a Sony console.

it has been discussed to death, MH is in Nintendo and handheld systems because it sells a hell lot more there, on home consoles it wouldn't sale as near, why? because its main market (Japan) is in love with mobile things right now

Aand because if japaneses want to play mh on a home console, they have frontier. Although it's getting outdated now.
And let's not forget that developing a 3ds game is way cheaper than developing a game for ps4.
Although I really want a new home console/PC mh :(
Edit: as I thought, I dejuniored talking about my GOAT, mh :p

So that means Monster Hunter X is being ported...right?

it was talked before among those more in the news of the MH universe that there is a high chance for that game to come, because of 2 reasons: MH4U did exceptionally well with the push they made in marketing for the west and with the MH4U sales they need to keep a momentum with the core audience and not let MH slip from their minds.

so I would say there is a high chance, yeah, specially seeing how Capcom is highlighting MH4U sales

I wish i could've gotten into this one like i did with 3U, over a 1000 hours in that one, this one just the offline single player ,75 hours
can't stand playing MH on handhelds

this and the growing sales of Bloodborne makes me hope for more of this core games to get an spotlight, they are really engrossing experiences and need to have more attention

As wiibomb said, this and Souls series prove there is a huge desire for hardcore Japanese action adventure games. I really hope we see more of these type of games going forward. I love them.

Absolutely, any dev that wants to get in on this type of game has my money. DEEP DOWN WHERE ARE YOU

That publishing deal really worked out for both parties, though less for Nintendo upfront in terms of sheer affects on hardware. Going to be curious how long the tail is on the contracts that have been getting made over this series between Nintendo and Capcom are...

MH is now in AC and Smash, and of course the MH4U Nintendo DLC. It isn't a short tail.

MHFO2, yes.

As much as I love these games on handhelds, I would love to see X get a console port. Even if the graphics are pretty nasty like the Wii U version of 3U. That was the best of both worlds, you could play on the TV or on the gamepad if your TV was occupied.

Glad 4U was successful though! I just recently got on the MonHun train within the past year or so, and can't wait for more.

I really hope that means we're getting Cross, I mean look at this beast, he cant stay just in Japan right? :(
We might be getting MH X: Ultimate instead, now with a G rank.

On one hand, I'm impatient and want Cross sooner rather than later. But on the other hand, when I read about all the stuff that was fixed going from 4 to 4 Ultimate, I'm glad I had the complete version from the get-go.

Yeah I'm conflicted as well, hell an U (G) version would be at least 2 years away D:

Here's the original quote.
I know, but capcom combines both even when they have different names, don't even think the west sold 4 millions alone, that would have been insane for MH in the west

"Don't even think the west sold 4 milions alone" Monster Hunter 4 never released in the west, even if it did, it already sold over 4 million in Japan alone. This thread is specifically talking about Monster Hunter 4G, which is where the west comes in.

We are likely not getting a G version of MHX, mainly because MHX is the portable installment of this generation, also because the 3DS is in his last legs, another game would need to be on NX, and that needs a port of the engine, that would require a time and also optimization work for the NX, by that time and the time the team works a new generation might be better.

They're going to port their engine over either way, the next step is going to be more about them updating their models and textures.

I could finally check the page because this it was blocked in my work, look at this:

"Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) today announced that global shipments of "Monster Hunter 4G" (including "Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate") for the Nintendo 3DS™ have surpassed 4 million units. These shipments include download cards and sales of the download version at the Nintendo eShop."

Now go and check media create sales of Japan. I was right, it is about 1.5 to 2 millions in the west, not 4

They're going to port their engine over either way, the next step is going to be more about them updating their models and textures.

They could yeah, and MH has been quite unstable in its installments, so that could happen, but I myself wouldn't bet on it

No fucking clue why they didn't port this to Wii U. Sigh. Guess I'll miss this one.

No easy code base to do it off of like MH3U + The series is known for selling poorly on even the most historically popular consoles = not worth the time, money, and effort.
