Monster Hunter 4G coming out on October 11 in Japan

Unless you're a sword & shield user, most folks aren't going to take the time to sheathe and chug an earplugs potion between every roar.

Honestly I think it will depend on the monster this time around. Teostra for example has a very dangerous roar. It's fast, can't be rolled through with even evade+3 and he can combo you strait out of it with a claw swipe or charge. He also does a "super nova" attack everytime he goes out of rage mode. The attack has alot of cool down if you're out of the way so it's perfect for chugging a potion (it also frequently one shots you or nearly one shots you)

This render is giving me life.

Sounds like some classic risk/rewards stuff right there. Since the roar's especially bad, players have to choose between bringing in an earplugs skill to nullify it, taking time in the fight to break off and chug a potion, or just risking it and hoping their weapon has a good block.

Shagaru is the endgame Elder Dragon much like Ceadeus. We didn't actually get a new Jang or Jho equivelant... Maybe the new guy will be like that?

Hopefully it is. Showing a flock of them in the trailer might be a hint that they'll show up randomly to fuck up your day once you reach high rank just like Jho.

Uh, no, Shagaru is basically what a Brachidyos Subspecies would have been in 3G. What you think of is Dara Amadura (Or whatever the western name of that will be).

Dara Amadyura is like Dire Miralis. Trust me I have 500 hours in this game. Shagura is considered an elder dragon and is leagues harder than Gore. He also shows up as the end story boss

The new monster look interesting.

Didn't expect it as soon in Japan. Hopefully the western release isn't too far into 2015.

Tell me about it, I have his GQ leveled to 100, but I always thought that Elder Dragons are supposed to be their own stage/area and not moving around like the regular monsters.

He does though technically. I mean I got both his and teo's GQ leveled too so I know what you mean but I have always considered GQ to be a special case. It certainly isn't 1:1 but it's the best analog to Shaggy.

does yours have lances?

what the heeeeeeeeellllll

New monster looks like a wyvern but kinda moves like a pseudo-wyvern, interesting. I really need to save money for a 3DS, 4G is seems to be the new FU.

Eh, in Unite, there were some (lesser) Elder Dragons whom moved about normal areas and could be found in the likes of the Tower, too (examples include Telstra, Kushala Daora, etc). The really, REALLY powerful Elder Dragons generally get their own areas.

@aevanko 1m
When you get hit, you can stay down on the ground for a little longer, making you invincible. Timed wake ups to avoid being spammed

seems significant

I hate the big hit -> unavoidable hit -> Stun -> death hit combos that Monster can do, so this is pretty smart.

I hope they bring Chameleos back. Such an awesome monster

Quite a few elder dragon's don't have special areas. Here is a list of them (not counting the ones in MH4 and MHF)

Yian Garuga (He used to be an elder dragon)
Kirin
Lunastra
Teostra
Kushala Daora
Rusted Kushala Daora
Chameleos

Yeah but those guys didn't also get a dedicated arena along with that. There doesn't really so to be an exact analog anywhere in MH really. Plenty of similarities though

Kushala was interesting since he got both an arena and was fightable in regular areas

Yup. And in 4U, he should be able to climb walls, or something. Honestly, Chameleons is probably one of the best monsters that could work with the climbing mechanics of 4.

Mhm, but I'd like to see the likes of Fatalis or Akantor in a 'common' area. It'd be quite an awesome surprise.

Really? Was that in a game before FU? Because I don't remember that in that one

I think he's referring to the Kushala quests that took place in the town area in MHFU. Teostra also had quests there, and Kirin had a quest in the battleground (the area you fight Akantor in)

Edit^^ yeah I had a hunch but wasn't sure because as you said Teo and Gaoren could also be fought there

Funny story is that people first learned C. Fatty was in 4 by hacking him into Guild Quests lol

Pinecone dragon looks pretty fun. I'm also liking that the game looks better than MH4 (in my opinion anyways). Next year needs to hurry up!

I love that he picks up hunters and tosses them around

Is that new or do the other wyverns do that too?

It also shows thrown hunters colliding with and knocking over other hunter when thrown which seems to be a first for the series

Edit for above again: in the original when Rajang powers up his fist he can punch you into other players. Also so think teo's nova might also give the same effect
Sorry. I only saw an image of it, which has probably been lost to the annals of time. Lemme try and find it~ But needless to say, it doesn't quite fit.

Thank you!
Looks fucking awesome!
Here have the savage render too

I see, that's what I get for starting the series with 3G, my bad!

Can't wait for this. I've been having fun with other Hunting Action games on my Vita in the meantime but I can't wait to get back into MH. The trailer was excellent.

How many weapons got new moves for MH4 anyways?

Is it mostly the same plus aerial attacks added?

Started up Unite on My Vita cuz I was desperate to play MH again.

Would live to See a remaster of Unite and P3rd on Vita with online play and better graphics.

Instead they do that on IOS.

Edit for the above yet again lol: you can but if you flinch the monster the player gets thrown off. It's usually just best to wait till it's done for more free attacks

Off the top of my head... GS got a really powerful side slash, LS got a new spirit combo move that it can do after the slide slash, SnS got a charge jump like attack, DS and hammer go nothing really new, HH got a new double note swing, lance got a jump out of charge, GL didn't get much and SWAX got a double swing on sword mode

Of course the is excluding all the jump attacks and the specific chains you can do out of them

Dumb question:

I haven't followed 4 (but with 400+ hours invested into 3Ultimate), are Barroth and Duramboros in the game?

I love Barroth and Duramboros

Thanks for the answer. The more powerful monsters don't take too long do they? I've only seen people riding weak monsters like Hermitaur and G. Jaggi, not bigger stuff like Jho.

They weren't in 4, but they could be brought back for 4G/Ultimate.

I like how Great Jaggi has become nothing more than Joe chow these days.

Luckily all the monsters take the same time to take down with the ride mechanic. Some monsters might have longer struggle moves or roars or perhaps shorter rest times but all that isn't exactly based on the size of the monster

I feel so bad for him...

Thanks again!

I feel worse for Gravios and Agnaktor, they were jobbed.

Ugh screw Gravios! I I've always hated him... At least in this game after breaking his back the heat gas starts coming out above him when he lasers instead of below
