Monster Hunter FRONTIER G coming to Vita

This smells like an infamous Capcom "test". If this questionable game doesn't sell on the platform, they'll be able to point to it as an example why they aren't making more titles for the system.

Well, note that it's an online-only release, according to Famitsu. So it's going for a different market/approach than the typical Monster Hunter. And it's already being released on PS3 (alongside Wii U,) so they're already cracking the code open, might as well get a full spread shot if it's possible.

The Nintendo crowd didn't take to the online aspect of MH in any particular way, but they obviously came out in droves for MH4 so that template is set; MH Frontier is for different types of gamers, which might be counter to the audience that the series has attained (it's popular because of Japanese train riding) but for whatever reason they want it, Frontier G is once again going after that online crowd that Monster Hunter was originally designed to capitalize on.

This isnt just about the Online, MHFG is just fundamentally a bad game by MH standards.

Edit: Side note I feel extremely stupid for spending the past 20 minutes arguing with someone that MHFG is an MMO. He keeps saying if its an MMO so is CoD...my brain hurts.

Lol no. They just don't care and nothing says 'We didn't forget about you boo' like porting a flawed game.

There is no 'test' when it comes to MH and portables. It will always sell well if the game is any good.

Well they don't need to sell a lot of copies for the game to be successful if it's using a paid subscription model.

Although releasing a subscription based title on the VITA is an unusual choice. The handheld market however dominates in Japan so I don't think Capcom is designing this game for the western market. Although this brings up the interesting question if Monster Hunter 4 being free to play online on the 3DS possibly making this subscription based title pointless. That remains to be seen.

Even so, more Monster Hunter is always a good thing, even if I'm not into the paid subscription thing.

So Vita is getting an online-only, paid transaction-riddled, worst-in-the-series, six-year-old MMO port of Monster Hunter that is effectively region-locked, and it won't even really be the full game, just a limited version of the PS3 one?

This is literally impossible to spin into a good thing.
"Monster Hunter is now on the Vita!"---There, it's possible.
Shahid just tweeted about this:
"shahidkamal: Monster Hunter on PS Vita http://t.co/c559mn9MVi"

Amazing.

I know. That's how this works. Releasing a flawed, low-effort game and when it doesn't sell, they'll blame the consumers for the audience not being there. If it does sell, they'll use it as a signal that this userbase is desperate enough to buy low-effort cash-ins. This was a pretty popular lose-lose proposition with the Wii back in the day as well.

shahidkamal: Maybe not the Monster Hunter you all want, but it’s start. From small acorns etc.

He says this as if there is any chance for a proper Monster Hunter game on Vita ever.

None of this makes any sense. There is no special "Nintendo crowd" or an "online crowd" when it comes to MH.

I lost interest in this series after Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on PSP. As soon as I saw that you need a subscription for this I laughed.

It's a shame.

My guess as well. They're throwing it out to die and be used as a bullet point excuse to try and keep fans and Sony third party relations off their back about MonHun.

Capcom gonna Capcom.

They did this with the Wii as well, releasing a bunch of 'test' games and then complaining that their ports weren't doing the mega millions necessary to actually invest into the platform.

Thank god they didn't get a hold of Atlus.

What "test" games on the wii didn't perform well? AFAIK, most of the RE games sold well on Wii. Monster Hunter Tri did decent here too.

RIP Zack and Wiki :(

Waiting for Zack and Wiki U... :/

EDIT: And this isn't a "test" game for Vita. There's nothing to test.

MH last gen was an ALL the platforms available, but the DS.
It was on the Wii, on PSP, on PS3, on Xbox360 and on PC. And on Mobile.
No shocking news that they are spamming it once again all over the market: now it is on the 3DS of course (3G and 4), on Wii U (3GUltimate and Frontier G), on PS3 (Frontier G) and on Vita (Frontier G). I think that it will hit also Xbone later one.
Of course, the importance/quality of the projects is different.

This is Capcom alright!
It's really like what they did last gen with Dead Rising chop till you drop.
The game no one wanted in a form no one would ever want.
Thanks again for the laugh Capcom!
I'm not even sure if the iOS game would be a better idea at this point :lol

Just like when they tested PS3 with crappy port of MHP3rd right? Those bastards.

It is so ironic. MH relies heavily on its multiplayer but the main series never came to consoles with proper online functionality. Just wtf?

Oh, dear! Some comments in this thread are gold.

Why is CAPCOM bothering with this? Well, I guess it is just easy to port from the PS3 to Vita.

I hope this will bomb in japan.

Frankly i'm really tired of how Cacpcom has treated Vita till now.

Capcom could have made with little effort a "frontier" version of monster hunter portable 3rd Hd, and release it for Vita in japan as well as NA/Europe, but nothing.

They could give us HD porting of DMC, Onimusha, as well as re revelations, but nothing.

Now this fucking version of MH, 6 years old, that nobody wants.

Capcom

Btw with remote play isn't MHF on ps3 a better deal than this?
I guess they did this because of the Vita TV....

I wouldn't be a surprised if a few people laughed at this during the conference, and shouted, "The vita has still got not monster hunter!"

It's a videogame. They aren't trolling you. They aren't testing you. They aren't spitting in your face or stabbing you in the back. They are porting an online game to an online handheld. It's not monster hunter 4. Know why? Because they have an exclusive deal with nintendo for that.

I don't know what the fuck is going on in this thread but it doesn't seem to be activating many brain cells.

Sure, but "they aren't treating you well" is apt here :P
