Monster Hunter Tri coming to Europe this spring

Just got this PR from Capcom.

London – January 5, 2010 – Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games today confirmed that it has entered into a distribution agreement with Nintendo for its forthcoming Wii title Monster Hunter Tri, the next instalment in the multi-million selling series. Under the terms of the agreement Nintendo will be responsible for the sales, marketing and distribution of Monster Hunter Tri throughout European and Australian territories with Capcom remaining as publisher. Monster Hunter Tri is scheduled for release this coming April and will set the bar in the action/adventure genre with the introduction of new features and gameplay elements as the Monster Hunter franchise makes its debut on the Nintendo system.

Monster Hunter Tri is one of the most strikingly beautiful games ever created for the Wii and brings to life a living breathing ecosystem where man and monster co-exist. The title’s single player story mode sees gamers taking on the role of a hunter whose village is beset by a series of violent tremors that threaten to destroy it. Charged by the village chief to discover the source of the earthquakes players will embark on a series of quests where they must face gigantic beasts that inhabit both land and sea.

Living the life of a hunter need never be a solitary experience with the option to form a team of up to four hunters via the game’s custom online Wi-Fi mode; alternatively the game also offers a two player split-screen Arena mode. Even solo players do not have to face Monster Hunter Tri’s challenging quests alone as they will be ably accompanied by Cha-Cha, an AI hunting partner whose skills will prove invaluable.

“Nintendo has identified Monster Hunter Tri as a key title for the Wii platform in 2010,” stated Michael Pattison, Senior Director Marketing, Capcom Europe, “We are really excited about partnering with Nintendo to further develop this franchise.”

Laurent Fischer, Managing Director, Marketing & PR, Nintendo of Europe, commented “Monster Hunter has a huge and passionate following in Japan and we are looking forward to introducing the Monster Hunter Tri to a whole new audience in Europe as the series makes its first appearance on the Wii.”

Smart move nintendo ;)
Monster hunter is an amazing game, it just needs a chance.

this isnt the first time nintendo have "published" for capcom in europe they've done it with quite a few games in the past, hopefully should mean a big marketing campaign and hopefully will be a big hit, i've not played a mh game before but i shall be getting this

Heh, interesting partnership. Capcom is the publisher but they're not actually doing any publishing activities :lol
This isn't the first time NoE has done this. Hell, its not even the first time they've done it for a Capcom game.

This is free to play right? Might give it a shot then
Hopefully. But, oddly enough, Capcom has still yet to make up their mind despite the game being so close to launch.

Good news.

Yeah, worked incredibly well for Zack and Wiki.

Just joking of course, unlike ZaW this should see decent amount of marketing. I also hope that this means no pay to play online is a done deal.

It was a slow burner, it got a reprint only recently.

Never saw any, not that I expected huge marketing for a small niche title but if my memory serves me correctly I didn't even get a promotion e-mail.

I have never played a monster Hunter Game before, what can I look forward to? or most importantly why should i buy it? <-- if any one can let me know :D

April release? Fuck yes! Hope it's free to play, not that I wouldn't mind paying just to give it a shot, totally interested in the game :D

Now we can't use this as an example of a third party game selling well.

DAMMIT.

Seriously though, pretty interesting. I might buy this. Is it worth it for the single player or is it more about the multi?

Single player offline is fine, however it is pretty short, maybe only bout 15 - 20hrs. If the online is free, you can even tackle all the quest alone, provided you are skilled enough:D
However, it is more fun playing with people.

You can hit dinosaurs over the head with giant swords. What else do you need to know?

Seriously, though; If you're a fan of both demanding Hack & Slash games (eg Demon's Souls and too an extent Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry) and loot orientated RPGs (eg Diablo, Torchlight), you'll probably like Monster Hunter.

I highly doubt a first time player could do that. I sunk 40 hours into the original MH (Not counting all the rage quitting I did) and I still had about 10 missions to go (which could have easily added an extra 10 -20 hours given prep work and and countless retries). Given MH3 has about same amount of content as the original I'm sure a first time player will need more then 20 hours to complete it (though given the gentler difficulty curve and reduced grind, probably not as much as I took on MH1).

Dunno about Demon's Souls, but MH3 doesn't have the frantic pace of NG or DMC, at all.

Yeah, I know, but I still believe MH combat appeals to the same taste for calculated and controlled combat.

Edit: Edited that line as to not give newbies the wrong idea. MH doesn't always leave the best first impression on everyone so it's best I don't give anyone false ideas. I highly recommend watching some gameplay videos first so you at least know as to what you're getting into.

MH's combat is a lot slower and less flashier than NG and DMC. Even though you swing around inhumanly big swords and crap, I want to use "more realistic" to describe it because your actions have recovery times and you won't be doing any crazy backflips/walljumps ect.

Anyways, how can this game be 4 months away and still not a word of pay-to-play?

Good to see Nintendo getting behind this. I wonder if they'll do it for America, too? I'm also interested in the whole pay-to-play thing, which I have no interest in participating in. I wonder if it'll be in the US version -- hopefully not.

I hope it does well, Monster Hunter deserves all the success in the world.

Its a great game. Great art design and direction too.

Press release should be out in a few days if everything goes well.
Would you happen to know if the online is free to play or not?

Great news, and smart move on Nintendo's part. Now, when the heck is it gonna be released in the US?

Serious question: Why is it that whenever a "big" 3rd party game comes out for the Wii, Nintendo should be the one to market and advertise the game when companies like Capcom can afford 20 million advertising for Lost Planet on the PC/360?

Nintendo succeeded in marketing Zack & Wiki, that's why Capcom wants them to publish one of their titles again.

I just realize it's even more stupid when we know Capcom will port the game to other consoles as well. I can't believe Nintendo actually agree to this.

Considering that Sony and Microsoft have been helping with the marketing of key third party games, Nintendo should be doing the same. I'm glad to see it.

The same happened during the GameCube era with Resident Evil 4.

It's like Capcom is just trying to spite me and my May 2010 prediction :(...

Oh, if that's the case then fine. I thought it was only Nintendo who was stupid enough to do this.

Oh man oh man.

By the way, do you think I'll be able to log into the European servers with the US game? Is it dependent on my Wii's setting or the game's?
