Monster Hunter World will have free DLC

where's everyone getting 'always online' from?

MH on handhelds in Japan is almost entirely local multiplayer, there would be no point running online server events there. They had to let you download everything at once so you could play the event quests offline. On consoles, online will be how people do multiplayer, so they can go back to how MH console releases worked in the past.

It's not DLC in the sense that you go on the playstation store and download new missions. It's just quests that get cycled in, often with unique rewards. For example you do a silly themed quest, and farm up a bunch of tickets that you can use to forge a lance that is just a shark you hit things with.

They very specifically said they would not be doing more than 4-player hunts in the Arrekz interview. The other thing could be possible though?

I still prefer the way handheld MH do things, it sounds terrible for people that can't play while the event is active.

I really enjoy the event quests in MH. I like the unique gear from it. Specifically the buff guy outfit in Generations. It has pretty good skills too.

'Member all the lootboxes in all those other MH games, guys?

Nope, Monster Hunter has always done this

Past MH games weren't AAA productions that are projected to sell like 1/3 of the 3DS games.

Also could you even set up a microtransaction system for premium currency on 3DS? Considering where is heading the industry and that the game itself seems perfect for such a practique, I don't think is outside the realm of the possibility.

While Raviente had four parties of four at the same time, I don't think they were able to interact with each other. But anyway, what I meant was for a party of four getting into the Quest and doing the Quest normally, then at the end adding up the damage to the server for the raid.

This is exactly what Capcom did for Resident Evil: Revelations 2's Raid mode, so I could see it.

Edit: And the online Ur-Dragon from Dragon's Dogma

Yeah, this kind of game mode encourages participation during a time period and is also really popular nowadays in Mobile games. To be honest, I think it's the perfect way to introduce Dalamadur-like sized monsters and to introduce Events like Overwatch does.

While I agree it could end up happening, it would be pretty detrimental if it wasn't all cosmetic stuff. Turning it into P2W situation on a full priced game would get ugly. Plus, the whole point of playing is to earn new gear that changes your appearance and skills. I don't know what they could sell that would make sense and also not fudge things up royally.

Only on GAF could the announcement of free DLCs leads to that nonsense.

My son has been really impressed with the footage so far. He understands the gameplay loop form the 3DS games, but never really expressed interest in those versions. I might buy this for him.
