More bad news for Sony: Anonymous threatens take down for SOPA

I was annoyed reading the title then I saw the post about Gaga, these losers want gays vs nerds. You do not mess with the queen

And if Godga supports SOPA (which there is no evidence of) it should pass and you will deal!

For their approval to SOPA, we have also declared that our fury be brought upon the following persons. Justin Bieber. Lady Gaga. Kim Kardashian. and Taylor Swift.

is this for real?

I think they backed off of the cartels because the cartels would just be murdering suspected hackers left and right. Anon probably knew that it would hurt their cause more than help as the only solution for the Zetas are being nuked out of their territory.
I was wondering whatever happened with that. I remember hearing something about Anon going after the cartel but then it went quiet.

I have no problems with people wanting to protect what they make, but SOPA is about more than that. SOPA is about taking away freedom. And it makes sense for people to go after companies when they are most likely the ones sending in lobbyists to push for this bill to pass.

This will be a good and a bad thing. Its a good thing because it'll show if Sony learned there lesson (if anonymous can even do it without getting in trouble) and its a bad thing because well the service will go down if Sony didn't learn there lesson.

No, what makes sense is for stupid internet whiners to contact these companies and tell them that they want no part of it.
But no, most of the outspoken are lazy whiners who love to type their opinions about how wronged that they are being but not actually do anything that will be productive.
It has worked to get other companies to drop off the support list already.

All stupidity like this will do is make the internet get locked down tighter, and then oh look there will be more whining about how people are being wronged but as usual the attention and blame will be directed in the complete wrong direction.

You think hacking will get the internet locked down tighter? These companies are already spending a lot money under the table to get this bill passed so that they can continue controlling the average joe. hacking is something that's like a last line of retaliation right now. A few weeks ago a bill was passed that allows for the military to be used against americans and the detaining of americans without trial. Now they want complete control the internet. And people think sitting back and letting the process work? What has been going on since 9/11 should tell you the government really serves the rich and not the general population.

Sony is gonna send lobbyists to Washington? Oh dear....

Also I think people are ignoring the real issue at hand and letting their biased views out. Gamers shouldn't root for these online terrorists. They will negatively affect you the gamer the most. You telling me we should be locked away from pen, have our info potentially stolen and hurt pending released that we may be awaiting for? What about content that can't be used w/out online?

These clowns hurt everyone and us more at the end. You don't think politics use these attacks as examples why the internet needs a lockdown?

Edit : sorry for typos. One handed on my phone ATM.

When these companies wield SO MUCH POWER with the US Government in the form of lobbyists, no amount of "I dislike your stance on this issue, good day sir!" will do anything to stop or change anything. Only action.

If I was Sony and someone hacked me it would only make me want SOPA to pass even more. No one can be stupid enough to think this could actually work so I'll take this as a joke.

LulzXmas? What?

They dared to go after Hotz. Removing OtherOS was long before that.

No, it is because Sony was the first and only thing that they were actually able to pull out of their ass that had any real impact and got them the most attention.
Everything else has been small pissing in the wind.
If you really believe there is any other real noble intent than you are sadly naive.

Nobody stops you to vote with your dollars or to take action and speak against Sony or persuade people to stop buying their products.

Ugh again -__- What's next Anonymous going after Neogaf because the domain is still hosted at godaddy ?

No, Go daddy removed support because they were hacked had people address it from the business side and threaten to remove their accounts.

That's what caused them to go after Sony in the first place. They had gone after others before that, and they have gone after others since.

I basically support them, since SOPA is pretty much the armageddon of the internet as we know it, but they need better copywriters.

edit: You guys don't know what SOPA is, do you.

Wikipedia said:
The originally proposed bill would allow the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as copyright holders, to seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. Depending on who requests the court orders, the actions could include barring online advertising networks and payment facilitators such as PayPal from doing business with the allegedly infringing website, barring search engines from linking to such sites, and requiring Internet service providers to block access to such sites. The bill would make unauthorized streaming of copyrighted content a crime, with a maximum penalty of five years in prison for 10 pieces of music or movies within six months. The bill also gives immunity to Internet services that voluntarily take action against websites dedicated to infringement, while making liable for damages any copyright holder who knowingly misrepresents that a website is dedicated to infringement.

Nothing to do with hacking, just shutting down YouTube, imgur, pretty much any site with user-generated content.

Like that's ever going to happen.

Youtube is a billion dollar business, you don't shut down a concern generating that sort of revenue without a hellacious legal fight.

But all this is beside the point.

If you want to stop a bill being passed, or repeal an existing law (DMCA), making random threats to organizations that may have lobbied for it is utterly futile.

If you want legal and/or political change, address the lawmakers and politicians. Because ultimately its them making the decisions.

Of course Sony has lobbyists in washington. Every big company has them down there campaigning for their interests.

dead @ these baboons threatening artists and corporations who don't want people downloading their shit illegally(yes i know it has way more to do than just that ya'll but i can see why artists stand by it lol)

You think record companies = artists?!
HAHAHAHA

Has anything Anonymous claimed they were setting out to do ever amounted to ANYTHING? I mean, does someone have a link for a substantial success they can claim?

Google and imgur, at least, think that's what may happen.

Also: Blogger (lots of people use it to distribute illegal copies of music), all of the file-sharing services, etc.

Then America should fix the lobbyist system instead of chasing after these never ending influence.

You think record companies and artists are not generally in agreement about wanting to be paid for their work?

At very least there are a large number of artists and creators who are free from Stockholm syndrome and educated about modern technology (and therefore oppose idiocy like SOPA.) Whereas I'm pretty sure there are zero major content corporations who wouldn't sell out the entire Internet for a single US dollar.

Sigh..

If these fools want to be of any use to anyone and have all this supposed power..

Why are they not working toward real issues.......................

like making sure we get a Season 4 of Community?

Yeah, this won't backfire at all. These little attempts at lulz and for attention are just going to be used as justification for even stricter regulation. Wouldn't be surprised if most of it was faked with that goal in mind.
