More hints from Sega Regarding Vanquish PC port

I don't understand why they have been radio silent for the last 4 years since Valkyria Chronicles was released and then all of a sudden they just drop two major bombs in succession of one another.
for the last 4 years

Also, Sonic Lost World:

Which came together with a press release saying that it was just the start of console to PC port projects.

My personal niche Sega PC port request would be Otogi. The PC community are huge fans of From Soft and Otogi would likely find a relatively large audience on the platform.

You know what? I remember having a ton of fun with the demo when it first released. And I love Yakuza, Binary Domain, and so forth. Why did I never buy this? I will now. Fingers crossed for Xbox BC.

Otogi would be fucking cool. It's always been one of those games where people have never heard of it, and then go "How have I never heard of this?!" when you show it to them.

The dream for me is still of course GunValkyrie but that's about as likely as a remaster of Sonic 2006.

Gunvalkyrie would rule. Otogi always seemed ultrabasic to me mechanically but (or maybe "so") I never got too far into it.

Agreed on both points. I never got to play Otogi 2, but someday.

Meantime, I'm AOK with Vanquish. Everything about it felt like it was scratching an itch.

Hoping for Jet Set Radio Future next, but not holding my breath.

That's the one I keep hoping will be next. I figured the poor sales of the first game on Steam would work against it, but the 1.6 million owners doesn't seem too shabby, albeit after five years on sale.

Who actually owns the Otogi IP, Sega or From? I'm guessing Sega meaning any port would be a joint venture much like the Platinum ports are.

Resonance of Fate is a different beast than VC. VC has strategy elements, a genre that's notably successful on PC and a visual style that doesn't date itself much. Plus VC was much more critically acclaimed in general, and not to mention had a couple sequels (even if they were scaled down for handheld).

I feel like if Resonance ever comes, it'd end up being one of the very last, in a "we're porting literally everything" sort of move.

Resonance of Fate is also developed by tri-ace, which has never released any of their games on PC

Actually looks like From owns the IP. On the back of the Otogi and Otogi 2 boxes it lists From as the owner of the trademark.

YES YES YES!

Now, all we need after this is Shadows of the Damned, and I'm game. Won't happen, but hey, I like to dream.

This is amazing. I still have 360 copies of Bayo and Vanquish wrapped and unopened and a 360 just so I could revisit them.

I'm ecstatic I'll get to revisit them without wrestling with old hardware.

It didn't help that the press made it look like Gears of War with an uglier art style. I thought it was a cover shooter until I heard it was by Platinum games and I watched some skilled players do their thing. I think it'd do better in today's market and I wouldn't be surprised if they're considering it once sales impress them.
Indeed.

I remember some stupid comments on forums: "it's a Gears clone", "Trash", etc

Man, I'm glad the game got a cult status with a loyal community.

Even today, it's difficult to find decent gameplay. I really hope Sega's PR team pays attention to this and promotes it in a way that conveys "this is what happens when P* makes a third person shooter" with a crazy trailer because if I didn't hang out on video game forums, I wouldn't watch until the 6 minute mark where he does a power slide.

I just hope they release it like on the day or the day after they announce rather than wait a while. Kind of like what they did for Bayonetta 2.

I am pretty confident tgat's what they will do, so this means we could be playing this within a month or two.

Vanquish is one PG game that desperately needed a PC port because not only was the original release sub HAD but it also ran at an unstable framerate. It was however the most graphically intensive PG game and even today its art design and environments look the least barren out of any PG game that isn't Bayonetta...and this is despite Nier being a current gen title.

Resonance of Fate is also developed by tri-ace, which has never released any of their games on PC

That's not entirely true, they did develop Final Fantasy XIII-2 for SE which got a PC release. Although when talking about porting we should probably consider that the game was built on the framework of SE's Crystal Tools and not some one-off engine developed by Tri-Ace. All of this is to say that it's not impossible, but it is probably unlikely.

God yes. Now all we need from Sega is Yakuza/Anarchy Reigns/Jet Set Radio Future/Valkyria Revolution.

I mean, when Valkyria Revolution was announced for the west it wasn't out in Japan yet and I was more confused about why it was heading for XBO. Now that it's out there and impressions have proven it's a pile of shit why should anyone ask for it?

Resonance of Fate is also developed by tri-ace, which has never released any of their games on PC

tri-Ace did say that their ASKA engine allows for easy PC ports when asked about SO5. And RoF does run in the same engine. So I imagine Sega is the one who simply has to ask for and fund the port.

All their last gen games and SO5 use their same in-house engine, their ASKA engine.

FFXIII-2 and Lighting Returns were only co-developed by tri-Ace. Those don't use their engine since they were one of several contracted studios to work on them.

From, going by the copyright. There's actually no Sega copyright at all on the back of the box except for their own name.

I say this in every Vanquish PC thread but I can't imagine the difficulty not being a bit jacked up by a good implementation of mouse aim.

practical solution: play this using a gamepad

cosmic brain solution: have Platinum include a new mouse-targeted difficulty level

Really curious to see if this will be 60fps. I think it will be, but I am also scared it was one of those games where the game logic is tightly coupled to framerate and they decided not to put in the work to make it 60fps.

This. But Sega West doesn´t excels in trailer department. Yakuza trailers are ultra basic.

Also, given these ports of Bayo and Vanquish, how far away are hypothetical consoles ports, development wise?

the hope here is that because slow motion is a prominent mechanic in the game and because Platinum has a few ports under their belt they will ensure that this is at least a 60fps game

but I get your fear for sure

I am fully ready to slide around blasting fools in 4K.

License issues with music, actors, and, potentially, middleware are likely the top reason.
Licencing issues are with the in-game products, according to comments from Jurgen Post (SEGA Europe COO) and Dan Sheridan (former SEGA Europe community manager).

Music - SEGA owns the whole soundtrack library because it was done internally. Dunno about the vocal track stuff, I know Japan can be funny about that (which is why Toot Toot Sonic Warrior in the Sonic CD re-release is instrumental).

Actors - SEGA almost certainly owns the vocal recordings in perpetuity. The voice clips of Ryo in the SEGA All-Star racing games were from the original games and don't seem to have required renegotiation to use.

Middleware - If this was ever the case, SEGA wouldn't be talking about a remaster at all, as this issue could have prevented a re-release permanently. It was either solved before SEGA commented on remasters last year, or never existed at all.

Maybe Sony has a deal with Shenmue remasters that is stopping a PC release any time soon.
Highly unlikely. Any deal Sony could make would not be worth it for SEGA.

So it's pretty much confirmed now. Gonna be so good on PC even if it's locked to 60fps. Will still be a massive improvement.

We're about to be rocket sliding at 144 FPS in no time.

Hopefully, Platinum has never supported frame rates above 60 FPS

With how shitty it ran on consoles, I'd honestly be happy with 60. There's always that concern that it'll
Be locked 30 but it's a Platinum game and I'm sure the engine they used would support at least 60fps

With how the Bayonetta port is, I think they'd put the effort to ensure it's 60. Even if it required some game logic changes. Can't imagine the fire that would happen if they announced it and said it was locked at 30fps.
