Just realized another thing about the vemilion gym (reference?!), maybe this confirms the return of puzzles after S/M not having much of that.

I hope they've reveal something to actually get me excited about the game. The first games in the franchise that I feel just isn't very interesting. Get me hyped Gamefreak.

There has to be new regional variants, right? It would be a complete joke otherwise.

I feel like they would've already started rolling those out in the marketing if that was the case. I'm guessing it's just gonna be the new Z-Moves

Sounds like it was a good idea to skip S/M, since this just seems to be an improvement on those games.

Goldenrod felt huge because of the crazy amount of buildings, but in reality the pathways were fairly short.

Castellia felt huge because of the illusion of the buildings

Lumiose City was ACTUALLY huge.

Hau-oli City is bigger than Castellia and Goldenrod in terms of space.
Lumiose was huge for no damn reason. Exploring the city feels like a slog because nothing felt worthwhile and half the locations didn't need to be separate buildings. Oh look, a fourth cafe! Add a garbage camera, a horrible layout, and that blackout blockade that serves no purpose other than to highlight how unfinished X and Y feel, and yeah, I really hate Lumiose. I never want to see something like Lumiose in a Pokemon game again.

And I'm not even one of the people who experienced the pre-patch game-breaking glitch that happened when you saved there at the wrong time.

Man, there still isn't much interesting stuff being shown, is there.

If there were new Alolan forms, I have to think one of those would be shown off at Worlds rather than a new Z Move.

Yeah... at this point I think these games are going to have very little new content...

I don't feel this is a fair assessment. Most 3rd games don't have much new in terms of forms or pokemon, and other stuff like extended post game doesn't benefit from dumping all at once

If this is a third version it shouldn't be two games. They've been vague about what these games even are, are they third versions or sequels?

See I was okay with this only because of the fact that X and Y were the first fully 3D games in the franchise. The blockade was there simply to slow progression. Previous games have done shit like that as well "oh you can't go past here because *insert random nonsense that disappears as plot progresses*"

The camera and the layout go hand in hand. The layout, as creative as it was, was pretty bad and confusing as it was a giant circle. Cafes actually played a part in a side quest, same with Hotels. But by this: "half the locations didn't need to be separate buildings" logic, Celadon, Saffron, Goldenrod, all have fairly useless buildings scattered throughout. In fact, Goldenrod has THE MOST useless buildings since half of them you cannot even enter.

Honestly, even B2W2 was essentially a third version. They've already established that the story is completely or at least largely new, which is more than any other third version barring b2w2

I updated the OP with new info and info that I felt had potential.

Let me know if there's any information that I am missing, as I want the OP to be an easy place to access information.

Honestly it just feels like that Lumiose is a test to see how big a city that Game Freak could create.

Que? This is confirmed?

No, there is no confirmation to whether move tutors are returning or not.

But it's unlikely that they won't return as they are a staple of the Pokémon series.

I find it kinda of funny that the director/staff is using the first 3DS version and not one of the superior/better ones.

I'm just shocked to see an original 3DS in that pristine of condition given that it was stupidly prone to wear and tear.

I'm actually kind of glad they haven't shown much. It's Pokémon and we already know what to expect from 2nd release. If anything it'll probably be like B/W2. Weren't those games that many loved? And I don't recall them really adding Pokémon to it outside of the dragon forms.

Not sure why people are doubting GF.

B2W2 were sequels and had a considerable number of new routes, cities and characters.

USUM are just enhanced versions of SM, with new buildings in Alola but no new cities or routes, based on the same story (with Necrozma tossed in to give it a twist) and mostly the same characters. Also it had less than 1 year of development time.

Partly because people seem forget how third version work and also because they were spoilt by Sun and Moon info dump which only happened because they had tons of new Pokémon and form to show off.

I suspect that we will get new Alolan form, mostly Pokémon from gen 2 to tie in with Gold and Silver releasing on the 3DS virtual console, which will only be a small number so they can easily space them out till Ultra Sun and Moon release date.

Man, it's disappointing to me that the view overlooking the Skyarrow Bridge and the Marine Tube (omg) are still the best examples of use of 3D environments in the games. I feel like with HGSS, BW and BW2 the games had carved an unique indentity of 2D looking 3D games with some great perspective shifts when needed. The 3DS games don't feel unique in comparison. Feel like there's a lot of boring areas to trudge through because the texture work is just bad for a full 3D game.

People's expectations were raised due to all the new Mega evolutions added midgen by ORAS and the new story from B2W2. I think they will get complaints if they step back here and there are only a couple of new forms outside of the already announced ones.

Edit: Although I guess with ORAS they went too far and basically revealed every single new form pre-launch. Still, the lack of new regional variants or Mega Evolutions so far makes me think every new form will be "special" and Pokemon specific, like the new legendary forms and the new Rockruff evolution, which means an overall low number of them since they aren't part of a larger feature.

Honestly, even B2W2 was essentially a third version. They've already established that the story is completely or at least largely new, which is more than any other third version barring b2w2

They haven't really established that though. It has new elements, but as far as we know it's still a retelling of the Sun & Moon's main plot. If it were completely different, why wouldn't they just make it a sequel?

Because I suspect that there will be a major twist in this game that will play in with the whole dimension and alternative universe.

I do not believe that story will be the same as Sun and Moon as for starter the trainer clearly get the starter at a different location suggesting that the beginning of the game where the trainer saved Nebby simply doesn't happen thus the player doesn't meet Tapu Koko.

distortion world? sinnoh confirmed??

nah i shouldn't get my hopes up :(

It's the wormhole opening up dimension where the Ultra Beast roam, though given to that it's on the map I suspect that like the distortion world we will get to travel to Ultra space and explore it.

"Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon have been powered up with new additions to the story and features of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon! These titles are coming to the Nintendo 3DS family of systems on November 17, 2017."

They're "third versions" just split into 2 games this time instead of one. Who knows why, maybe they sell better that way?

I'm guessing most of the new content is gonna be related to Ultra Space. There will probably be legendaries from previous titles popping up in there too kind of like in OR/AS.

So far my issue is that these games so far don't have a compelling new hook that sets them apart clearly from Sun and Moon.

With Black 2 and White 2 I clearly remember knowing somewhat early on these would be sequels and the map they showed had ice covering parts of it. That drew intrigue.

Here I don't feel that as much at all. Though I also wouldn't be surprised if UltraMoon and UltraSun lowkey become my favourite games.

We've haven't had a traditional third version in nearly a decade. I think it's fair that people's expectations have changed in the interim.

If this is only a Platinum-level improvement that's a significant disappointment to me, and frankly, on the evidence we've seen thus far, even that seems like it may be a stretch- we can see the Battle Tree right there on the map.
Did you miss BW2? It's seems to be the new trend now.
BW2 had an entirely new plot, a radically different Pokedex, a host of new characters and battles, and a totally different progression through the game. If USUM has any of these things, they're sure as hell not showing them.

I dunno, I think the huge distortion in time and space hovering over Alola is pretty intriguing lol

I just want to know what exactly the game is, that should have been clarified at the reveal, its weird they are being a bit vague with it.

I mean, how would they show a new pokedex before the game is out? We're also already seeing newish characters who were only really teased in the original like Ryuki and Kahili, and we have no idea what the progression through the game will be like. I think you're drawing a ton of conclusions way too quickly

Not necceserely, concidering game freak has 2 development teams for the main games, so this team has likely worked on the concept of this since oras!
Well the team that worked on ORAS worked on S/M. I suspect the team that was worked on X/Y were working on Z. Then sometime post-ORAS, Z was canned in favor of ORAS team working on the next mainline. Speculation about Pokemon Z of course but based on the way Gen 6 went and the content missing from Gen 6 that were out in S/M. It seemed like a Pokemon Z was planned until sometime after ORAS release. Likely because they realized they wouldn't have enough time to do a 2nd gen on 3DS, if they released a 3rd version.

Why wouldn't they have time? People can be cranky all they want, but the 3DS still has a good year or two until it's completely dead.

Game Freak has always released a new mainline generation of Pokemon in the 2nd year of a Nintendo portable being on the market. They likely heard by late 2014/early 2015 about Switch being the 3DS' successor with a 2016 release targeted. If they want to release a new mainline Pokemon on the next handheld within the first two years; they can't be starting a new generation after the Switch has released.

Ugh floppy hinges, bizarre issue where the bottom of the system would scratch the top (not like they had 10+ years experience designing clamshell devices or anything), and yeah glossy finish.

B2W2 is a complete new game in a lot of stuff. It's really unfair to match it with crystal, platinum or emerald.

I love how diff people put different pieces on the board but let's now put put 2 and 2 together:

What we see here is Solgaleo and Lunala with aspects of Necrozma all over them.

Now we see this mysterious light with eyes in the above image...

My assumption is that light with eyes is Necrozma's new form when it sheds its prism armor. The armor connects with Solgaleo/Lunala to give them new forms, but the remainder from within the shell emerges as a being of just light.

Necrozma's Moon Entry:

Necrozma
Prism Pokemon
"Light is apparently the source of its energy. It has an extraordinarily vicious disposition and is constantly firing off laser beams"

Calling it now, Necrozma Light Form incoming.

Also, new forms for existing Pokemon [especially legendaries] during the same generation isn't a new thing. Giratina, Shaymin, Kyurem all got additional forms in the same generation they were introduced...all notably not in the original games they were introduced in...

Btw, It's shape is literally a star. There's your Pokemon Stars everyone.
You're probably correct. Reminds me of Kyurem in B2/W2. I suspect you will need Necrozma and one of the two main legendaries on your team to activate their forms. I could be wrong but it seems kind of similar to the Kyurem fusion mechanic except you don't lose a Pokemon.

There has to be new regional variants, right? It would be a complete joke otherwise.

I hope so. I was at one point hoping that a future Alola game would have more regional variants and mega evolutions but it's looking less likely.

I can't do it again. The box legendaries are appalling, and this is clearly a shameless last minute 3DS cash grab. Maybe I'll get it when the hype for Pokémon Switch gets too much for me, but I doubt it.
