graphically it isn´t "all that" but its nice to see there are LOTS of things you can do in the game...

It's not surprising that it has a destruction derby style mission, afterall San Andreas had one. :P

It looks fine grpahically, you can't really expect a whole lot from these types of games from that standpoint.

Great pics. I still wonder why people still talk about how "bad" the graphics are with media all over the place. Especially since the demo's been released.

That said, I still wish that your created character didnt stand like a douche whenever you let go of the stick. :/

destruction derby in a freeroaming game seems pretty plainly ripping GTA as hard and as feature-by-feature as possible, but hey! Saint's Row was actually fun so

*double takes*

Fun enough for Amir0x to buy whenever he finally picks up his 360?

Read the Saint's Row demo thread!

I think, when I buy a 360, I'll rent it to see if the full game pans out like the demo indeed!

The lighting engine is really impressive in this game, considering the scale. The is a guy in he background holding a newspaper..with his hand casting a shadow on said paper, nice.

If you mean just to see your your personal comments, then yeah I will. If you mean in general, I already know! :D

I was one of those defending the game way back.. when the main complaint was: "It's not GTA lollers!". Nice to see that the once the demo came around the unneeded hate subsided.

Those GSpot screens are actually a better representation of what the game really looks like when you're playing than those cam shots. Anytime you take shots with a camera from a TV its almost always going to make the game look better than it really does.

woaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I wonder how GTA4 will look like then!!?

id hope, better.

they were talking about gta4 as far back as vice city, so it better be something really special (thats like what 5 years dev time?)

False

Yes, because the camera made the cars shiny

*thinks back to all the crappy shaky cam footage*

How the hell did you work that out?

Yea, wtf is with that? It makes me want to punch the character in the teeth.

Well, the game is all about your douche gang member character and his douche gang member friends, so I suppose it makes sense. Have you seen the print ad for Saint's Row with 4 "actors" dressed as gang members in that same stance? You'll love it.

The demo is really a lot of fun, but the tone of this game really does turn me off quite a bit.

The better this game turns out, the better the new GTA will have to be. Win-win.

The game looks SOOOO uneven...

For example...
There are some really nice looking elements in that shot...but if you look at it, all of the objects (trees, bridge, buildings, etc.) really don't seem to be properly connected to the ground. The lighting is also pretty bland. It all looks very akward to me.

How is the framerate, by the way? The demos all had such low framerates on top of everything else and the game looked pretty weak because of it. Of course, the GTA games never looked all that hot...sooo...

How does the city compare to GTA? What GTA did so well was provide an extremely interesting, interactive city. There was always so much to do and the games always had a great sense of humor. So many other GTA clones offer these big cities that just aren't any fun to explore. The simple act of driving around GTA was fun, but most others could never achieve that.

The framerate is 30fps locked probably in the full version :). At least that's what the developers told me on the Saints Row forum :).

The city in comparison to GTA is that it's like the half of San Andreas, but I didn't like driving from A to B in SA because it took too long most of the time imo.

I think this game is gonna rock, and I have yet to play the demo. Even Amirox liked it, so most other people will ;)

That's why you just got a plane and flew to the place you wanted to go which took very little time to do. From there you can just go skydiving. :P

Hehe yeah but some driving missions or stuff like that took too long imo :P. Plus like someone said in the other thread, james bond shit in a gangsta themed game ( driving a motorcycle in an airplane and then killing everyone inside :lol , and aliens wtf :lol ).

Not that I dislike GTA :)

Thank god GTA was trying something else besides generic gangsta stuff.

??? I don't get it.
What don't you get? Snapping pictures with a camera typically produces results that are more pleasing to the eye than an actual direct feed shot.

I liked the gangsta theme :). If you pick a theme stick with it imo.

Imagine Vice City taking a crazy storyline like that in the end :|.

Anyway, took this from another forum :

p.s. Did you guys know this game uses Speed Tree, which is the same technology Oblivion uses?

Awesome :D

Aliens?

The rest is part of GTA's charm I think. It never takes itself too seriously and is always poking fun at something. The series would take a big hit if it started being too serious.

It's from the single player (this mode).

There's a multiplayer mode where you actually have to destroy opponents cars (or just damage them) to gain points for your own car. I think the mode is called Pimping Ride (or something like that) and your gang has this one car that is really hot looking and you must protect that car while you and your gang drive around trying to find and damage other gang's pimped up cars.

I recently played the game for about 7+hours while talking to someone from THQ and it really is something, something that'll hopefully sell a lot of Xbox 360's and might even be the game that'll eventually make me buy my own Xbox 360 if there's some sort of bundle. Anyway, in my opinion, it feels a lot better than Grand Theft Auto San Andreas - huge game, pretty engaging story, a shitload of features (missions and side-missions) and it doesn't feel as though you'll get lost traveling across the game's areas, which was something I had a real problem with in San Andreas. Awesome that it was so huge, but you spent 40mins traveling from one side of the map to the other. Not fun.

I hope that people don't make this out to be a GTA clone though. I hated how people thought Titan Quest was a Diablo II clone, and it was a fantastic game, which added a lot better features than what Diablo II had. And this is the same with Saints Row. Took a lot of the complaints about San Andreas, fixed them, improved them and just smokes the game out of the water. Online mode is amazingly deep, and is a mode many people will flock too.

I really love the 80s and never played a single GTA or GTA clone game.. Maybe I should try Vice City. If I like it I may get Saint's Row. Is VC backwards compatible on XBOX?

It sure is :). Vice City is also the best 3d GTA out there imo :)

does Saint's Row have bikes and aircraft? Demo is pretty nice. Dialog seems like it tries to be too dramatic and just ends up comical. Entertaining either way though.

No :)

SR2 probably :). They didn't have enough time to put it in :)

No aircraft? That's interesting, they've 1-up'd GTA in pretty much every other category... Maybe it's just the demo that doesn't have them.
