Mortal Kombat 3 was pretty shit huh?

All of the Mortal Kombats are shit. Mortal Kombat 9 was almost not shit. But it was still shit. Mortal Kombat X will be shit, too.

The other significant point about MK3 was that it was the last-time the series used actual digital actors, before it "crossed the realms" into 3d....I for one miss that, it was one of the unique things about the MK series...wish they would bring it back, what with all the advancements in tech since '96....It'd look awesome!

I couldn't agree more that is truly what made MK stand out besides fatalities.
Currently the character models aren't the best. Especially the face department. There has not been a single 3D MK game with decent character faces. Even X is looking sad.

The old Trilogy had perfect character models because of the digitized actors/actresses. The Pesina brothers, Rich Divizio, Sal Devita and who could forget Kerri Hoskins. It just felt awesome playing as one of them.

Kinda sad now though.

Mortal Kombat has always been 90s comics as hell, but Mortal Kombat 3 is the most 90s comicsest, what with the shitty robots and the weird eye paint and the cross dimensional shenannigans and the cop that is able to fight demigods because he has a gun

That being said, 3 is still better than 4 by miles and miles

played MK2 an absolute ton back in the arcade days. when MK3 came out, it was a little too different for me and i started to lose interest.

at that point, i ended up playing Killer Instinct instead. loved those monster combos.

MK3 in all its iterations is just fun to just enjoy whether you're just playing casually or...

Ummmm, competitive-level UMK3 is some of the hypest shit in fighting games.

playing the game at the highest level. Shouts to SJC for one time.

Even Trilogy being just dumb is still super fun to play and it was the return of the beast that is Johnny Cage!

In my Top 10 Fighting Games of All Time easy.

Total atmospheric downgrade from 1 and 2 with all the dayglow costumes.
But the soundtrack delivers the hippity-hoppity.

UMK3 came the absolute closest to being a good fighting game. And even then it's not great but it's tons better when compared to what came before and after.

A lot of the games are severely lacking that's true...but calling MKII and UMK3 shit instantly makes your opinion on anything invalid for now and all of eternity.

Mortal Kombat 3 was ridiculously overhyped. It was on the cover of Electronic Gaming Monthly FIVE TIMES in 1995 while better games like Chrono Trigger or Yoshi's Island or Earthbound weren't given half the exposure. (EGM didn't even bother to review Yoshi's Island or Earthbound, in fact.) This really bothered me and I irrationally hated MK3 as a result. Looking back, I see that the hate was totally justified. MK3 was a mediocre game that wasn't nearly as good as its immediate predecessor. The 2D fighters from Capcom and SNK were in a completely different league and 3D fighters were really starting to come into their own as well.

MK3 is different and maybe it suffered from fighting game fatigue at the time (I played it on console first before arcade.. also had the pc version). I liked the art style.

As a preference I would say II is the game of the series, but I love the original for introduing it (still my favorite test your might mini game).

Hated MK 4 the most.
