Mortal Kombat developer wanted Xbox exclusive character

I wish Publishers (or people who know) would just leak more information. How much does an exclusive cost? What are the real reasons for these things? All we get is either nothing at all or bullshit like what Inafune said about Dead Rising Case Zero... :(

I'm actually happy that the Xbox 360 version didn't get an exclusive character. I like the idea of having a Mortal Kombat game that's only Mortal Kombat characters. I say this as someone who absolutely loves God of War and Kratos.

well, let's see..

Boon said he can't talk
another NetherRealm guy said it wasn't MS
Cliffy said he'd love to see a Gears character in MK
Lost Planet 2 on 360 had Gears
WB has done exclusives with Sony before

yeah, i'm gonna go with WB being at fault on this one.

Cliffy B said they couldnt get a character in time in his twitter if i recall...

Which would mean they couldnt get a deal done betfore Sony and WB came in for the exclusive.

True, that King of the Hill mode look excellent.

But King of the Hill mode is in both versions of the game. It's just the avatar integration that's different. Which most people will turn off to watch matches in full screen anyway.

Worst move Microsoft has made in regards to video games, since buying Rare.

Such a wasted opportunity.
What move exactly?

Also true. I guess I just got over it.

And it's likely to not have any affect on the actual sales, don't really see the problem.

The problem is 360 owners get one less chacter. In a fighting game that's a pretty big damn deal.

But it's a console exclusive character (especially a sill franchise tie in) as well, which is not looked at the same way. Many people will no doubt will be fine with going for the 360 version to avoid a cheesy tie in like this.

console exclusive chars are banned in big tourneys like EVO anyway. . . so much for Kratos.

List war lol:

Gears people
Master Chief and his crew
They guy from Ninja Blade (Ken) & his dad

Milo
Peter Molyneux
Don Mattrick
Banjo
Forza cars
Blinx
Voodoo Vince

/got nuthin' more

OH! When I saw the title from another thread, I thought it meant they wanted the Xbox 360 to have a exclusive,In-game character.

They wanted a MS character? That would be pretty cool.

I truly believe MS fucked up and Lupinko was right. Fucking hell MS just don't get it, they forgot the SC2 sales of the last generation. With any Luck the PS3 version outsells the 360 versio 2:1 or something so MS's foolishness doesn't repeat itself.

Apparently Kratos isn't tournament material anyway:

http://testyourmight.com/forum/showthread.php?3920-Mortal-Kombat-Tier-List&p=40101#post40101

MK9 Tier List taken from the Strategy Guide (PS3 score/Xbox 360 score):

TOP TIER:

Shang Tsung (165/158)
Raiden (161/154)
Kung Lao (159/152)
Nightwolf (158.5/151.5)
Johnny Cage (155/147)
Ermac (154/148)
Smoke (153/147)

MID TIER:

Kabal (145/138)
Liu Kang (142/136)
Kano (140.5/134.5)
Kitana (139/133)
Mileena (136.5/130.5)
Reptile (136/130)
Sindel (136/130)
Scorpion (135.5/129.5)
Sonya (134/128)
Stryker (133.5/127.5)
Sub-Zero (133.5/127.5)

LOW TIER:

Jax (131/125)
Jade (130.5/124.5)
Cyrax (125.5/120.5)
Noob (124.5/119.5)
Sektor (123/117.5)

SHIT TIER:

Baraka (112/106.5)
Kratos (107/---)
Sheeva (105/100)
Quan Chi (103.5/98.5)
Cyber-Sub Zero (101/96)

What they did was this:

-Assume players of equal skill
-Each character fought each character 10 times
-Players aren't scored against themselves
-10 fights X 27 matchups (28 characters-your own character=27 matchups)=Score out of 270
-The average number of wins is the number that listed (i.e. Ermac, on average, won against Baraka 7 times)
-Scores of 4-6 indicate no significant difference in the number of wins (aka no strong advantages/disadvantages in the matchup)
-Score of less than 4 indicates a significant disadvantage for the character in that matchup
-Score of more than 6 indicates a significant advantage for the character in that matchup

Example:
Ermac, against Baraka, has a score of 7. So, when fighting Baraka, Ermac has a significant advantage, and Baraka, against Ermac, has a score of 3 (won 3/10 against Ermac), is at a natural disadvantage when he fights Ermac.

Note: Total of 101-115 have most natural disadvantages, total of 148-165 have most natural advantages.

Again, Cliffy B already talked about this on his twitter.

"@Kaylila: you guys ever succed in getting a Gears Character as the X360 exclusive in the new Mortal Kombat?" Nope, we were too late.

It doesn't sound like Microsoft is to blame here.

We'll never know the split unless Sony release figures from Europe about 3:1 victory for the PS3 or something.

What does it really matter for MS? They still got the game released on their console and it's not like this will sell CoD numbers so the revenue cut they get is tiny either way.

That's a great attitude to have in business, as small as you may think it might be. it adds up.

If they wanted Gears characters then MS has nothing to do with it. Epic owns Gears they don't have to go through MS to put their characters into a game.

Any character from Killer Instinct would have been fantastic, not like Rare is going to be allowed to do anything with the license.

Still going with the 360 version. Characters like Kratos don't fit in the MK universe at all...
...really, I don't think he would stand out if he was in a MK game first.
But this news is BS, we live in a world were DLC spills out like oil.

Sony seems to think he fits in any fighting game, since he was already in Soul Calibur as well. Tekken Tag 2 will probably be next.

The Skorge would have been my Gears pick for Mortal Kombat

I think it matches the universe a bit better than one of the COGs. Well, except maybe the Cole Train.

Have you guys actually played MKS? the whole "doesnt fit in MK" thing seems kind of silly with characters like Stryker, Meat and Bo Rai Cho.

Rumor: Freddy And Jason Coming To Mortal Kombat

XTpUI.jpg

So the MK news and rumors keep flooding into my inbox. This one comes from a UK connection close to the project. Apparently, Warner Bros. is going all out with the DLC in the form of some very high profile IP’s. The rumor is that they will be bringing Freddy and Jason to the MK franchise this Halloween. There’s obviously no official details and this is JUST a rumor, but if it comes true, MK is living up to the title of best fighting game of the year. We will keep digging to find out whether this info is real or not.
