Mortal Kombat X Comic series announced

Fujin and Tanya were dope. Bring me more from MK4's roster. Love that game, fuck the haters.

The synergy that being WB owned has allowed NRS and DC has been great.

The Injustice comic has continued running to this day over a year after the game came out, they sold figures of the game costume designs, they included TV show and movie costumes in the game, and now they have a canon MKX tie in comic and upcoming webseries plans.

Having everything under one roof has been great for cross media promotional strategies, meaning more content for fans.

I'm a casual in terms of knowing MK lore, but damn I really enjoyed that comic.

When did Scorpion stop being a mindless wraith? I'm sure in MK9 he was still a wraith following orders and never showed his human side?

Same. I'd even welcome back Kai, if they were standing to be a bit more ambitious with him than just have him be a "Black Liu Kang".

...But then again, even that much was pretty outstanding, considering what kinds of tropes black characters in fighting games usually fall into.

MK4 characters are good except Jarek.
I'm really rooting for Tanya, I know Boon likes her, but not many others.

Hopefully if she does make it in, she is more like her MK4 incarnation, they ruined her in those PS2 games.

So i read the comics and I dont know if I am allowed to discuss it here but I think they showed us some potential characters for mk x and someone now confirmed not to be in it.

The only thing I remember about Tanya was that she had Spiral Arrow, and it was even called "Human Cannon Drill", Cannon Drill being the name the US versions used for the move before SF4.

You're still wrong regardless, ma'am.

Fujin: Wind powers (how many other characters in MK have that?), cape, flight, can be the "superhero" of the game as a nod to the team's other franchise and previous crossover.

Nitara: Female vampire. Could be the Morrigan of MK (Like how MKX has introduced the Q-Bee of MK, the Chang/Choi of MK (CvS2 version where they're one character), and the Ancient Ogre of MK).

Darrius: Cool black guy with cool shades.

Kobra: Ken Masters. A second character with a less deadly serious tone to compliment Cassie, like Stryker to Johnny. A great opportunity for for some humorous and clever nods as the "Dan" figure parodying the SF/MK rivalry.

All they have to do reinvent the characters from those basic elements, and leave behind their previous moves and some of the more convoluted lore.

Honestly, they're all pretty generic. Fujin might be redeemable for his powers, but his design's so forgettable, he'd need to be started from scratch. There's one or two others I think could be improved with an all-around reboot, but at that point, why can't they just make a new character instead? The PS2/GCN era of Mortal Kombat was simply trying too hard to be edgy, with some of the least inspired designs I've seen in a fighting game; if they weren't "generic person," they were trying to look like someone else, like Frost being a female Sub-Zero, Nitara looking like Vincent Valentine as a scantily-clad woman, or how Kobra was Ken Masters, to the point his name in some early versions was flat-out "Ken Masters." I'm liking the newcomers we've gotten so far; I'd rather see someone as fresh as D'Vorrah become a part of the lore than see them waste time on making Mavado worthwhile.

I had hoped MK X the game would feature both Cyber Sub-Zero (hard and heavy attacks) and Frost (lighter, more agile, but more deceptive attacks), with very different playing styles and ice powers. :-/

Still hope Frost makes the roster, but do have my doubts after reading this issue.

Oh man Jarek

'WRONG JAREK, THIS IS NOT A BRUTALITY. ITS A FATALITY'

My opinion? Because you never know who might be next in line for being "redeemed", thanks to being in games that actually had more TLC given in order to be developed into something good, as opposed to being rushed out because Midway wanted something to delay their status as a sinking ship. If MK9 was able to make some actually start to legitimately like Stryker, I'd like to think there's a glimmer of hope for others, as well.

Also, it'd be a way to give some characters who never really got the chance to develop a second chance. Entire plot arcs that were likely planned were dropped entirely, and characters such as Kai, Fujin and Reiko were the main ones who ended up being victims of such. After all, how else could one explain how the likes of Fujin being made into Raiden's successor was propped up as such a big deal back in MK4...but then he and that plot point were almost completely forgotten until three games later in Armageddon?

But like I said, MKX is already doing that (to an extent).

(With Cassie also being "Young Sonya who sometimes wears Johnny's glasses")

Issue #2 is out! Starting to pick up the pace, but..darn it..still too short!

In summary...
-A new character is introduced: a member of the Shirai Ryu named Fox. Reminds me of Sean from Street Fighter III.
-Time passes and Takeda is all grownup. Training with Fox.
-Fox is starting to hear voices.
-Raiden appears. Seems what happened in the previous game damaged his image as Scorpion considers him a liar and a fool. :p
-Raiden asked Scorpion to protect the dagger of Kamidogu (from the previous comic) as he feels there's an evil being from the Netherrealm looking for it.
-The Netherrealm conflict damaged the connections of realms including Earth, and this being is looking for the few remaining warriors that survived (Johnny Cage and Sonya are shown with new looks).
-Fox wakes up hearing the voice which orders him to take the dagger. Which he uses to remove the flesh of his face...and kill the members of the Shirai Ryu (oh oh! :p).
-Comic ends with Fox taking Takeda to kill him in front of Scorpion.

How'd you get it? Ipad dc comics app doesn't show it available.

Google Play also has summaries for upcoming issues...

#3 continues from #2 with
Fox telling Takeda to kill Scorpion or be killed like the rest of the clan.

#4 will introduce
Cassie Cage and will have her on an MMA match.

#5 will have
Cassie fighting Frost, while Sonya is having a discussion with Kotal Kahn.

Awesome! Thanks for this. :) Man, I seriously cannot wait to see the new characters and how the story all takes place.

I wonder what Johnny/Sonya Cage look like. :3

Some art for that new character slipped out a couple months ago but it seems like people dismissed it due to the character name (which is pretty lame, honestly). Here are a couple pics:

Holy hell. That second image of him is awesome. I wonder if that's a new playable character? Would be awesome if used the chains a lot more in his moveset. XP

According to the comic writer guy on Twitter, that art I posted earlier is "early Shirai Ryu concept art" and not necessarily the new character they introduced in the latest comic, even though they look quite similar. Hmm...

Dreams crushed.

I really love that design.

I dunno, I can't see a book about a group of assholes who get maimed on a regular basis fitting in with the current DC line.

Well, they don't need to be best pals with Superman. There's another side to the DC Universe, even the current one.

I'm not saying that they should put them in the same universe. I'm just saying that I don't see violence as a reason not to do it.

I would so be reading the shit out of this if comixology's app wasn't so garbage on iOS. Seriously hate this forced guided view shit. God damnit Amazon no one wants to see these comics butchered down into forced aspect ratios and cut off trash!

Not much happened, but what did was cool and the tease at the end!

In summary:
-"Fox" is forcing Takeda to kill Hanzo/Scorpion, whos tied and tortured upsidedown.

-By kiling his clan and everyone, he expects Scorpion to again take over Hanzo. He evens makes him remember that the Lin Kuei killed his clan and family back then.

-Hanzo starts to gets angry by what happened and the memories/visions, but realizes is not real (since the Sub-Zero in the vision asked him how he felt! :p).

-Takeda attacks Fox with a spear to leave Hanzo alone, but Fox shoots energy at him and throws him out of the way.

-While this happens, Hanzo turns into fire and back into Scorpion, takes his mask and burns Fox.

-But Fox stays alive...and Scorpion uses the dagger and stab him in the heart. But, it seems it's what him wanted and thanks Scorpion. Shoots energy at Scorpion, which turns back into Hanzo (seems its an ability ala Hulk?).

-The dagger starts restoring Fox's skin, as he tells Scorpion that Raiden never told Hanzo about the connection between the dagger and Quan Chi.

-As Fox tells him that, Takeda slices Fox's head in half.

-Hanzo appreciates what Takeda did. Basically says there's no time to mourn, he will build a new clan but needed to speak with Raiden. Telling Takeda that he will show him how a god begs for mercy.

That's basically it. Now, the ending though hints at multiple characters, old and new. With a few surprises.

Here's a summary of the last scenes of issue #3.

At the Sky Temple, Raiden has another(?) dagger while he talks to Fujin(!) about what's going on. Seems that by offering blood to it (cutting himself), he can see what happens in the future.

Seems he receives a bunch of visions and claims it's too late and "it has begun".

The visions were of multiple characters, showing:

-Hanzo and Takeda as they (just) walked out.

-Cassie Cage fighting Frost on a ring (the focus of next issue)

-Kotal Kahn drinking blood from a heart, with Ferra-Torr in the back...and someone that looks like a more human Reptile next to him.

-Reiko (looking like he did in Armageddon) quite cozy and close to Mileena.

-Sub-Zero fighting a bunch of cyber ninjas.

-Kano stabbing someone that looks likes Goro but with a goatee, in one hand.

-Jax(!?) training an unknown black female fighter(!?)

I totally thought Reiko was grabbing Mileena's boob at first. I had to do a double take.

I dont get this comic, does it take place before or after MK9?

Why is Scorpion still alive?

A few years after MK9.

And Scorpion is as dead as ever, he's only "in charge" of his undead state now.

A few years after. The game per se is 25 years after the last game.

A lot of things will be explained in the story mode of the game, the comics are just filling the blanks and teasing other things.

Not much is known yet. Seems that there was a war at the Netherrealm, which caused many changes across realms.

It is known that Quan Chi used the souls of the dead warriors he had on this war.

Scorpion found a way to "make peace" with happened. Since he was killed then technically reborn as a spectre looking for vengeance, he reverted back to his human form by "letting it go". Probably why he can
turn into Scorpion at will now.

There are nany questions that hopefully will be answered through more comics and the game.

It is now, remember there was a timeskip on the second issue during Takeda's training.

15 year i think...meaning theres still 10 more to pass before the game...
like the evil romance at the end....hope frost live, like the look of Khans bodyguard....also wtf is goin on with sub-zero? when they gonna explain what happen with his cyber transformation
