Mortal Kombat X - Official Launch Trailer

What?! That's not... Are you sure that isn't a netplay-specific issue?

Well I know the delay shouldn't be by seconds but there is one in MK games right? I tried to play MK9 yesterday and you have to mash the combo out real fast and then the full attack animation plays half a second later instead of having each move occur when you press the button like in Street Fighter.

Not sure if I'm allowed to state when embargo lifts, but I can confirm that I will be streaming the game tomorrow at 2pm PST on Prima's Twitch channel: http://www.twitch.tv/primagames

Have you played Killer Instinct on Xbox One? It will be a similar experience. I'm not looking forward to playing MKX on Xbox One, but I may have to since the WB tournament is Xbox exclusive.

As for how easy it will be for a beginner. Have you played Street Fighter or anything? MK in general is a little harder to pick up than Street Fighter, but I'd say it's easier than most other fighting games. MKX adds quite a bit on top of MK9, but I don't think MK9 was overly difficult for beginners to pick up and play.

I'm handling the USgamer review for MKX. Expect my review to cover everything important to competitive players. You can check out my KI review on USgamer if you want an idea, but I think I'm the only legit FGC member writing for the mainstream gaming sites.

Thanks man! I like US Gamer.

Anyone, yay or nay on a purchase primarily for single player?

Am I the only one who doesn't understand pre-ordering the Season Pass alongside a game you haven't even played yet, especially when it's already quite expensive at $60 to begin with?

I just noticed the Special Edition was above the regular game on Steam's Top Sellers list and couldn't help but ask, "Why? Why not play the game for at least a few weeks, then determine whether or not you want to spend more on extra content?"

I can't help but feel that consumer behavior like this is why there are so many bad industry practices these days. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Probably because if you enjoy fighting games or Mortal Kombat you'll enjoy this. It's hardly a different experience.

I played the shit out of mk9 and enjoyed the DLC. The difference in price isn't something I have to care about really.

I'm absolutely fine with season passes for games I play and from devs I trust.

One thing I"m curious about- will the options to disable negative edge/use qcf instead of 26 command cause problems with controller config in tourney- even beyond the starndard MKX/Injustice stuff- which was inexcusable in 2012-3 and even moreso now.

I definitely get that; but what if, for example, the netcode turns out to be as bad as it was before and you end up not being able to have much fun online? Something like that would drastically decrease the game's lifespan for many players, and it would probably have them wishing they hadn't paid the extra $20-30 up front for DLC.

Well buyer beware. I can't account for what other people might regret. I won't be playing online much anyway.

I triple dipped on MK9 and put hundreds of hours into it because of the content it offered. These games have so much offline content.

Predator, Jason and Tremor are the reason I'm getting the season pass. I could buy them separately but I grabbed the physical CE and the digital normal edition on Xbox so I don't even have to think about them again they will just get added to my game and give me a reason to return.

If the season pass is $30 and includes 4 characters, what are they charging for them separately? $10??

You can buy the characters individually for $5 each. The rest of it will be skins.

The Ultimate Horror Pack:
Playable character Jason Voorhees
Horror skins Vampiress Mileena, Kraken Reptile and Pharaoh Ermac

The Klassic Pack #1:
Playable character Tanya
Klassic skins for Kano, Sonya and Liu Kang

The Predator / Prey Pack:
Playable character Predator
Predator-themed skins Commando Johnny, Infrared Scorpion and Carl Weathers as Jax

The Klassic Pack #2:
Playable character, Tremor
Klassic skins for Quan Chi, Jax and Kung Lao

I am also confused as to why you would buy a season pass before the content has come out or is close to coming out. As *multiple* publishers have shown us already, they OFTEN put the season pass on sale before content even starts releasing. And it's not like the season pass is a timed exclusive.

So I can: spend $30 on season pass now and wait for content.

Or I can: wait to see if the season pass goes on sale for like 15$ or 20$ (which is probably will) before major content starts releasing. And if it does,t then I can still get it at $30 once the content releases....

The only thing you guarantee is that if you get the season pass immediately, you have no chance of getting it on sale.

edit - and not just for Mortal Kombat, this really goes for just about any game since publishers are showing across the board that they're willing to slash season pass prices constantly.

On PC it was possible to get the game + season pass for $60, so I guess that made the choice of getting it early easier.

But on consoles I agree with you, outside of getting it with the KE. But there are people who want to get the DLC as soon as it comes out so that makes the choice of getting the season pass early more tempting ,especially since you get the DLC earlier than people who buy the DLC individually.

The only reason I bought the complete version is because I got it for ~$60 USD. The only other time I've bought a season pass was with Mario Golf 3DS, because the base game was priced lower than other 3DS games and it already included more content than previous games in the series. Other than these two cases, I always wait for a complete edition or for a massive price drop on DLC.

I'm considering canceling my pre-order and using the $60 on something else.

I mostly play single player in fighting games once then occasionally break the game out for some local Multiplayer as I've learned that Netherealm's online is always uh... Garbage.

I was excited for the game before but the more I see, I'm starting to feel like it's more of a platform for DLC and Skins and I'd be better off buying the inevitable "Komplete Edition" a few months down the road.

Any input?

yes that totally makes sense for the PC version. and I guess if it's a "i get the DLC slightly quicker than everyone else", at least there is a reason to pay for the season pass early lol. but still, y'all know it's gonna drop in price soon. See this every other week on Xbox One sales.

The season pass is on sale already. Target reduced the price to $10 if you purchase it there. Preordering on Steam or PSN gives you a $10 discount.

If you don't know if you'll want the characters. Wait. There isn't anything wrong with that. You'll even be able to try them free in towers when they're out. If you think you'll enjoy them and want to order them ahead, you can do so and save. Of course, you'll probably be able to wait and save as well. You're not being forced into anything.

The game is great. You can always not buy the DLC.

Any input?

It's not really much different from Injustice and SF IV when it comes to costume DLC. If you're gonna only play it for the single player content though I see no problem in waiting for the komplete edition so you have more to mess around with before getting bored with the game.

Hopefully they'll actually include the DLC in patches, the compatibility pack thing on MK9 on 360 was frustrating, because not everyone had them.

I would say wait a few days after the game is out to judge the netcode.
There is a lot of single player content in the game. Story mode and living towers are the two big draws if you don't plan to play online. If those do not interest you than wait for a price drop.

So the season pass.

Does it give you all costume packs with it? I'm all aboard so I don't have to buy costumes. I could care less about the characters though...

Yes, except a handful of costumes obtained via WBPlay and the mobile game.

Gives all characters (except Goro) and costume packs (except two skins you get for free from the iPhone game).

Yeah. As far as I know it gives you every costume except the ones unlocked by playing the free mobile game.

Which ones are those? need to know if it's worth wasting my time on it for them.

Ninja Mime Johnny Cage
Farmer Jax
(I think, but I'm not sure) MK2 Mileena

There's probably more I don't know about since the game isn't available on Android yet.

You want costumes but not new characters?
Am I in bizarro world?
Meh, I personally only care about Tanya and the costumes :P I couldn't care less about the other characters, especially the movie guys.

Yup to those three plus MK2 Kitana.

I just tried playing online with a friend. Netcode feels a bit better than Injustice. I had no issues doing combos, or blocking attacks.

Not perfect but pretty good.

Nothing like MK9 where you could cheese online because some attacks were unblockable due to lag.

As expected lol

Am I in bizarro world?

If the new characters weren't shit? Sure.

Rain, Noob, Stryker are 3 I would maybe be interested in...but really all the characters I want to play with are already in the base game, so, yeah I only care about DLC costumes for them and maybe stuff like new stages and better net code? ;)

Do dlc characters (Predator, Jason, Tremor..) also come with their own stages ?

I don't think that even the in-game characters have their own stages, let alone the DLC ones. Actually, each character having their own stage hasn't been a thing for a long time. Only fighting game that somewhat has that now is Skullgirls.
