Mortal Kombat X story spoiler thread

It was a plot point in the story. They mention the idea of trying to turn them back when they captured Quan Chi, and tried to use that to talk Scorpion out of killing him. Then Raiden said that there was a chance as long as Quan Chi lives, not knowing that he got killed 5 minutes prior.
Yeah, I know that. I played story mode :P What I am saying is that is interesting that the arcade endings have similarities/references to the canon events.

Kitana's is depressing and it was the first ending that I saw in arcade. I accidentally spoiled corrupted Shinnok's for myself by doing that before story mode

Can we talk about farmer Jax? Is there a theory that Jax is related to Axel from Twisted Metal and the farm was Axel's dad's? And Axel's dad studied Jax's arms and used them to construct the wheels?

I wonder if Shinnok can come back. I really did not like how they defeated him.

They just need to find his body and get a sorcerer to reattach the head. If Raiden was smart he cut it up into tiny little pieces and scattered them throughout the realms.

Wait what

He is still alive, so it is possible. I'd prefer each game to feature a different villain, though.

Too bad Raiden is the opposite of smart.

Nah, In MK 12 The plot will be that Shinnok
came back to life by killing Johnny Cage and reattaching his head to Johnny's body. Cassie's daughter/son will have to embark on a weird adventure to take down Shinnok and his lackeys

I think the next game will involve Earthrealm attacking Outworld. After watching some endings, and considering what Raiden said at the end of the story mode, it looks like that's the direction it will take:

In Scorpion's ending, he and the Shirai ryu become protectors of the Jinsei and Earthlream forever.

In Raiden's ending, he, along with Scorpion and the Shirai ryu attack outworld and conquer it.

In Quan Chi's ending the Elder Gods take control of him and have him kill Raiden.

In Kotal Kahn's ending he's defeated by Raiden, and asks for the Elder God's protection, they accept and start a new Mortal Kombat, where Outworld protects itself every ten years.

So the next game will be Special Forces fighting Dark Raiden and the Shirai Ryu?

MK11: Civil War!

Probably not. Raiden isn't interested in fighting Earthrealm, only savagely protecting it. I don't see many of Earth's fighters really protesting this since most of them aren't too fond of Outworld and Netherrealm to begin with.

didnt like how the shitty new character got to kill off two classics

not sure how I feel about liu kang/kitana netherrealm leaders. I loved the new kitana design and wanted to see her back in action

I agree with this, didn't think I'd missed Mileena as much as I did when she died. Also, I'm pretty sad to hear Liu Kang and Kitana remaining netherrealm leaders.. hopefully they'll be revived in the next sequel but I doubt it.

MK12 will probably have Shinnok attach his head to Quan-Chi's body.

And maybe Quan-Chi's body will try to infect Shinnok, Metal Gear Solid 2 style

I'm wondering how big of a threat Liu Kang and Kitana could be compared to Quan Chi and Shinnok. The former aren't known for using magic like the latter, after all.

I hope Kotal Kahn and his followers have a huge role in the next game (including D'vorah).
Where does Netherrealm fall on this?

Same. I really liked Kotal but due to the way the chapter based stuff works he felt like someone who got his ass beat too much. My only real gripe with the story is the last ~3 chapters or so feel really brisk, I totally forgot he even had the whole invasion to earthrealm coming as it focused on shinnok so much, and after cassie beats him there's no resolution on what happened with them.

D'vorah is the only new character outside of the main squad that actually ended up looking powerful which kinda sucked. Ferra/Torr had barely no role and did nothing but get beat down, same with Erron.

Oh, and Quan Chi. For all the talk of him being such a powerful sorcerer he probably is the biggest jobber in the game. Starts the game off getting wrecked, has a specific Sonya flashback where he gets brutalized, then in the modern day his team once again gets beat down and he gets captured, beat up by scorpion and decapitated.

True, but Liu Kang is a former Mortal Kombat champion and the other is a queen who could probably beckon an army to serve her. Lui Kang is a bigger physical threat than Quan Chi ever was

How many MK9 arcade endings ended up actually being canon?
I think it's strange that so many MKX endings are so similar or 'work together' so well.

There's also:
-Black's ending that goes hand in hand with Jax' ending and Sonya's ending.
-Kung Lao and Kung Jin's endings that show that a Shaolin could repeal Quan Chi's corruption if they have the will to 'be good' or something (which I guess Liu Kang wouldn't have so only Kung Lao could get out of being a revenant like that).

I don't remember many MK9's endings fitting together like a puzzle like MKX's ones. I may be just miss-remembering things, of course.

Of course there are weird endings like Sub-Zero's that has the Lin Kuei become dragon riders.

I also found interesting that in Kitana's ending it's "revealed" that she knows that Raiden altered the timeline, where she would've been the Queen of Outworld, loved by all. So, she hates Raiden all the more.

The new characters are all great. Sorry you can't enjoy new things. And Liu Kang and Kitana being Netherrealm residents is the best thing to happen to them in a long time.

Even without fancy magic powers, Liu Kang is actually a strong warrior unlike Quan Chi. Kitana isn't weak either. Plus, they might have Kung Lao, Sindel and others with them.

My biggest issue with the story is how much it focus on the kid characters and mostly ignores the Kotal squad. I really want to know more of Kotal, Erron Black and the others.

Out of the kids the only one who stands out for me is Kung Jin :/

Just finished story mode and certainly not as good as the last game.

Not a bad start but badly tailed off towards the end, although the final chapter with Cassie wasn't so bad.

Seems like the writers were under no mandate to make the endings canonical, but if they came up with a good plot point that complimented the story mode, it wouldn't be turned down either.

Most of the MK9 endings were about characters' personal goals, having little to do with each other. On the other hand, MK9's canon story was pretty self-contained by the end. The hint about Shinnok's future plans did not really represent a cliffhanger in the way MK X ends up being.

I did like the MK X story fine; but I think the problem it has is MK9 is conceptually fantastic. A complete retelling of the original trilogy, with enough set pieces to represent huge events like a ground invasion of Earth's cities. It's hard to top that.

That is because the last game had 3 stories in 1. Not saying the story in MKX was amazing, but is unfair to compare it to the story of MK9, IMO.
Yep, evil overlord Liu Kang is the most interesting he has ever been.
Yeah. I always liked him but I think he is a lot more interesting as an evil character than as a good guy.

Not through the whole story, but mental note don't ever make out with D'vorah.

Also her head movements are so god damned creepy.

This is the way the original series story came to be. You would beat the game as every character and see where they fit, then wait for the next game to see which bits got discarded.

I think it's safe to say many of the endings are pointing to where MK11 will go.

I dunno, there is a certain sense of grandiose awesomness in the simple ending to MK1. The way it was depicted in MK9 was perfect - clean and to the point, and powerful because it wasn't just cliche, but rather the cliche.

"Shang Tsung! Face me in Mortal Kombat!"

Then Raiden bowing to him as the music crescendos. So awesome.

I guess because he died and it doesn't seem like cyborgs retain their cyborg forms after dying. Then he was revived, as a human again.

I guess he became human again when his revenant body was reconstructed in that pit like we saw happening with Johnny Cage. Though that begs the question of why Jax still has metal arms and Kabal still needs the mask/respirator.

Though people really wanted human Sub back so it's easier to just accept it than question such things. =P

I gotta admit...

I legit got misty eyed when Scorpion and Subzero buried the hatchet and showed respect. That's the type of character progression I like to see.

This is the best they've ever been.

Frost was hilarious. I wonder what sub zero did with Cyrax. I don't think he mentioned killing him, just Sektor.

I was disappointed that the baddies weren't as fleshed out, especially since they were largely unknowns to anyone that didn't play past the original three games.

I would pay for a story mode DLC which showed the other side of the story - it should be one chapter per character covering the whole roster, not just the good guys.

Overall though I thought what was there was fantastic. Much more interesting than any other fighter or action game.

Scorpion is the stupidest idiot in the whole idiot world, but he does have the coolest moment in the game. He's seriously like a legitimate simpleton though.

Baraka is hilarious.

What the fuck is a jobber, and why do people keep using it in reference to the characters in this game? I had literally never heard this word before this game came out, but now it seems to be everywhere. Is it a British thing? It sounds like a British thing.

A jobber is a character that looses a lot. It's a wrestling term.

Pro wrestling term. A jobber is someone who loses constantly to make other wrestlers look good.
