Glad mine isn't in the list. Of course, it's not animated so that almost disqualifies it right there. It also helps that it's almost completely original (I used Jocchan's art and the NES TMNT game for the 'splosions).

It seems that an avatar quote would be appropriate here, but given the tone of this thread, such behaviour would probably be frowned on by the grumpy masses.

you're not gonna change the way i choose to use the word anime... my avatar is anime to the untrained eye... and it's not an in-game screenshot of heather... it's an anime drawing of heather.. it's anime

edit: the animations in sh3 are godly too... heather's idle animation... which is just her breathing... is unparalleled
 
You know we should all have avatars that actually pose as a sort of "get to know me" vibe, and not just a character from a TV show or a meme or something, unless it's a good TV show or a character doing something memorable. I know I speak in irony here but, my avatar is just filler until I make something better. >_>

I don't care if your avatar is really anime, or not. I'm just pointing out that your Wild Hogs schtick didn't go well and no one found it funny, so you moved on to something else.

i changed my wild hogs avatars because they aren't anime and i wanted an anime avatar. if you really think i thought badly animated wild hogs avatars were my ticket to neogaf fame... well i don't know really i guess you're just dumb

"Manga" is the Japanese word used for drawn or animated works of art, which can be what we know as your standard printed comic or "TV Manga", aka a term often used by people in Japan to refer to animated cartoons.

The term "anime" is the shortened Westernized term used in Japan to directly related to animation, not only of Japanese origin but any and all kinds of animation.

That term then got appropriated by a select group of companies and fans here in the West when animation from Japan was started to become more recognized. The initial term used most often was "Japanimation", but some felt that could come off as a derogatory term (aka "Jap-animation") and came to more and more use the "anime" term to specifically relate to cartoons from Japan. Which, of course, is kind of funny when you think about it, as the term went as a word from West -> Japan -> West.

In none of those situation does "anime" refer to an art style, and it has no origin where it was meant to refer to any style of non-animated artwork. I understand why some (especially those who want to insult Japanese-style artwork or products) would just lazily use "anime" to refer to anything of such style, but that doesn't make it correct. (Nor does it make people pointing this mis-use of the word "elitest".)
