Carcasson is what I picture in my head when I think "castle". Mont-Saint Michel is pretty darn breathtaking too.

In B4 Punisher/Nathan Fillion jokes.

edit: But not before Andrew Castle jokes. :p

Neuschwanstein Castle, the castle that inspired Disney.

Neuschwanstein is definitely beautiful. But it was built during the 1800s with the express purpose of it looking like a fairytale castle. In a way, it's no more "real" than the Disney castle, just 100 years older.

Also, as a tourist you can't see the castle from that angle which is a bit of a shame. It's built on a hill, and you are always too close to the castle to get a good look at it. And from the bottom of the hill, you only see the towers.

Of the castles I've visited, I'd have to go with Chateau Chenonceau. It's amazing how it seems to float on the water.

Where are there castles besides Europe/Japan?

There's one in Manhattan of all places!

The Cloisters museum in upper Manhattan.

Well, kind of; it's really just an abbey built back in the 30s, but it's still a cool feature in a gorgeous location tucked away in northern Manhattan that few life-long residents even know exists let alone tourists.

Woah, this is pretty nice, I gotta say! French renaissance it is eh?

Yes our jewel from renaissance; until some crazy king (Louis XIV, called by himself the Sun King) decided than the Louvre wasn't good enough for him anymore :

Yes. Le Louvre is this huge and long ass castle all around the glass pyramid

So he had built Versailles outside Paris from scratch :

Not really my favorite, but they have already been stated, so I will add another one.

Marksburg:

One of the few castles that actually never got destroyed, here is why:

No way to get up there with an army

That thing looks impenetrable, goddamn.

Yea, you can still see areas where fights occurred, armies tried to get inside it.

Also, very beautiful from inside:

For a more of a castle type, from my city in India:

One of my hopes is before I die I can visit a castle or two. Ever since I was a kid I was obsessed with them. So amazing.

Come to India, you can visit 5 in a day at some places.

Every castle is built to be beautiful/grand, that this one took inspiration from fairy tales doesn't change anything.
