Most epic video game music

USAbox-acz.jpg

There's nothing more epic than this and that's a fucking fact

I just listened to that music yesterday, and wow it's good.

I posted this in the Steam thread but no one figured it out. So I thought this thread is more appropriate and a lot of people here have great knowledge on game soundtracks (especially jRPGs).

A Contest:

Download this music track: Track of unknown game

Listen to that track carefully and try to guess which game it belongs to. The winner will be the first one who answers with the correct name of that game.

Reward:
1x Copy of: (Steam version)

Hints:
  • The game is part of a series created by Mr.X
  • Mr.X made another game last gen which was considered a failure probably because of time constraints.
  • It is probably a Japanese developed game.

Note:
I don't know the answer. So the winner must provide proof that this track does indeed belong to the game included in his answer. (a link to the OST or a Youtube vid is sufficient)

Thanks and have fun.

It is a puzzle given to me by a friend, and I have 2 more days to solve it :P
So yeah, I've listened to the first 10 seconds of every track in this thread hoping it may match the one up there but no luck.

My last desperate effort is to post it here and hope someone will recognize it. It is most likely a Japanese game and a jRPG. It sounds like a battle theme, but that is all I've got. :(

So anyone can help? You'll get a free game. ;)

Thanks

The skyrim theme has already been mentioned so I will go with this:

Watch the skies from Skyrim

The first time I heard this was when I first fought a dragon in Skyrim. My son was in the room as I was going through a town trying really hard no to do anything evil. Then all of a sudden an NPC gets fireballed and I was so confused because I knew I could not have done that since I had no magic. Then I see a dragon picking off npc's and coming for me. It took I had not to yell "HOLY MOTHERFUCKING SHIT!!!!!!!!" in front of my 5 year old.

Got some soundtracks in my PC - Crysis (both 1 and 2), Dawn of War (especially 2), Shadow of the Colossus, Medieval 2 Total War, The Witcher, the Interplay RPGs were also great.

Definitely Shadow of the Colossus.

Also, I have to throw in Brave Fencer Musashi. It's one of my favorite games, and has one of the best, and memorable soundtracks I've heard.
Everything sounds so adventurous.
Examples:
The Musashi Legend
Run, Sword Fighter!
Steam Knight (Boss Fight)
Twin Mountains

Fast Strong Current
Those are a few samples of this amazing soundtrack.

Just listening to these tracks puts a smile on my face and makes me feel so nostalgic.. I wanna play through this game again, now!

Edit:
Hm, I just read that Tsuyoshi Sekito, the guy who scored this game, also did the score for The Last Remnant.. did that game have great music as well?

Mystic Quest Legend.

Like

and

etc etc. entire soundtrack is great, love all the town themes, all the dungeon themes....everything.

Shining Force 3's bombastic opening theme is also great:

As is the funky BOF3 boss music.

I also like Wild Arm's Ecstasy of Gold style track:

More generally, I think Chrono Trigger's "End of Time" is probably the best single piece of game music I have ever heard though...I guess on that score it qualifies as epic?

That track that plays when you enter this secret room in FEZ (SPOILERZ). Perfect fusion of gameplay and music. People talk about the Red Dead Redemption Mexico track moment as a game defining bit, but to me this part in FEZ is every bit as memorable (I'd actually say more so).

You figure out this secret, so you're already all smiles for doing so... then you enter this room, platforms flashing everywhere in tune with the music, and the beat kicks in and you can't help but nod your head. This shit is crazy.

Disasterpeace is my new God.

Didn't know where to share this (own thread?)...

There was a beautiful vg music concert / conference in Ăšbeda, Spain, last July. It was called Play Fest.

We were able to interview invited videogame composers (Glorian, Akira Yamaoka, Ryan Shore, Austin Wintory, Richard Jacques), attend some of their panel and then enjoy the awesome live orchestra concert.

We're running this at a lower pace since it's special, music-related stuff, but I guess you'd like to listen to some of the pieces we shot or check out video interviews.
