Most horrifying use of spiders in a video game?

Most of the freaky ones have already been mentioned, so I'm just gonna post this thing from the Wii U tech demo.

These spiders in Malebolgia (made by a GAFer, Dascu)

Originally these guys were just to be "decoration". I decided to make them an actual enemy.

WTF is wrong with him?!

I'm glad at least the spiderscorpions in Metro can be stabbed the hell out of, makes it satisfying.

I'm not arachnophobic, and these aren't technically spiders, but HL2's poison headcrabs give me the shivers.

They feel so venomous, like those hairs would dig into your skin and splinter off when they jump at you.

Surprised no one mentioned this yet

The Trite from Doom 3 are nightmare stuff

Came here to post this. Doom 3 had some really great design for some of its creatures, and the Trites are among the best. Also worth mentioning is the Vagary mini-boss, but I guess it's too female-spider-centaur-y to be posted in this spider thread.

Metro Last Light was the only game that made me question if I had arachnophobia.

Not saying I'd pet a tarantula or anything but spiders have always been cool to me and I've never been afraid of them even as a young kid.

I always thought spiders were man's best friend of the insect world, they prey on annoying flies and creatively and industriously spin awesome webs, they're just impressive and resourceful little creatures to me. Then again I'm in the UK with no poisonous or huge spiders around.
Yup, UK for the win!

Reading these threads involving spiders and see people freaking out makes me feel lucky to have absolutely no fear of spiders, or snakes or scorpions.

But frogs freak me out, so there's that :P

The talk of spiders has made me want to play Metro Last Light.
This week I'm moving in with my girlfriend, however, who is less fond of 10 hours of spider horror on the TV.

.

The section with spider is not longer than 1 hour of the game in total iirc. She'll be fine.

Spiders and scorpions I have no problem with. Even had a pet emperor scorpion back in the day.

Hornets/wasps though? Blech. They exist only to cause pain to every other living creature. Nature's perfect douchebag.

Anybody remember the game called Spider... don't know why anybody would make a game where you control a spider... its not horrifying but just why?

Most terrifying ones though are the Skyrim ones, jeez they were so... drool filled and horrible.

Really hated the Lava Spider from the original Devil May Cry too!

Please don't post real spiders in this thread lol

These freaked me out... You finally kill them and walk past them and then OH GOD THE CORPSE MODEL IS STUCK IN BETWEEN MY CHARACTERS LEGS AND IM DRAGGING IT GET IT OFF

I figure someone's probably made a vg spider thread already, so let's discuss which game not only has the scariest spiders, but the scariest usage of spiders

for example, a realistically modeled black widow spider would be kind of funny as a playable character in Speedrunners, so it wouldn't be all that scary (webm stolen from a nameless GAFer):

However, even a low-poly black window spider would be terrifying in a first-person oculus rift game that involves a powlingball sized black window spider that chases you through an old borded up, abandoned house that kills you by latching onto your face.

Post images with your examples please

Deadly Creatures.

Playing as one the entire time and watching the shiver inducing accuracy of the animations gave me the heebie geebies.

The whole thing was just so...VISCERAL

I really can't stand spiders and it seems like game designers take every opportunity to include them in their games.

Walk around and notice some webs...there's going to be spiders. I feel like Indiana Jones did about snakes..."Why did it have to be spiders!"

Hate these things in Splunkey.

Damnit now I also want to play Deadly Creatures. I'm glad the game is only 6-7 hours long, as that's about my tolerance for combat heavy games.

The Phantom from Devil May Cry scared the shit out of me the first time I saw it

Even though it isn't a spider, I feel this freak in Demons Souls deserves a place in here

And all you can do is run.
Hmm...the last one looks like
the Duke's Dear Freya boss fight
from Dark Souls II, if it were done up in a cartoony style. Or are those purple thingies friendly?

I'm still waiting for this moment in a game.
Oddly enough, I find daddy long legs far more revolting than normal spiders. I imagine them plunging their spindly little legs into my pores, Borg-style, and injecting all kinds of nastiness. Conversely, I find spiders with fat, furry legs (tarantulas) almost adorable.

The purple things are friendly. And they are being shot at by a giant spider (~1 foot tall) with a machine gun. If you've ever wondered how humans went extinct in Pikmin, giant, steam-powered robo-spiders with guns probably had something to do with it.
