Not surprised. I always think "no house can look that good and well lit. " I am wrong of course, but still, it just looks too good.

I dunno, I've seen some GAF pictures in the "Show off your gaming setup" thread that look close to the pictures in the OP in terms of professionalism

Who looks at an ikea catalog anyway? Half the fun of that place is walking through it and following the line on the floor.

You can tell it's CG, but maybe that's partially because they all look like "look what I can do" CG Society renders in style. Real decorators also don't position lights so they can show off the volumetric rendering :P

Goddamn Swedish people always tricking me what with their CGI and their store that makes you go through the whole damn thing before you can exit and the only safe haven is the restaurant and goddamnit

Wouldn't this be a lot more work than just arranging the products you sell and taking a picture?

You'd have to spend more time making it look good with post-processing, I imagine.

Says it all, really.

At this point I assume basically anything in any catalog is Computer Generated.
It may be based on something real (a real person, real furniture, etc.), but that's about it.

Imagine all the shipping, assembly, lightning, warehouse, electricity, clean up, arrangement etc. I'll wager for such an extensive product catalogue range they have prototype models/textures from manufacturing and visualisation to just send out to a renderer specialist. It would be far cheaper to render it all based on those likely assumptions.

Not even the Fox Engine can pull this off.

mind blown

can you tell if these are real or fake?

real fake fake real

got em right, getting those sorts of roughly woven fabrics and carpets right can be a real pita. the way it looks is the result of so much... stuff. Also the scattering through the pancakes butter and paper bag aren't impossible to do but make me think it's probably real.

the third pic is so cg it hurts
