Most memorabe voice performances in video games?

The absolute very best is the vocal cast of the Legacy of Kain games (example) but you suggested looking beyond the obvious ones.

Ellen McLain, Stephen Merchant and J.K. Simmons in Portal 2 were absolutely excellent. Menacing yet funny is a very difficult vocal combination to deliver, and they completely nailed it. Combined with the game's superlative sound design, the voicework was completely perfect.

I find it funny no one put down The MiB

Miranda Raison as Cassandra Pentaghast in Dragon Age. I say this because she managed to create this strange European accent which sounds real and believable but isn't actually pinnable to any one European country. Also it's just an amazing accent.

Slightly biased as its from one of my favourite game series, but Dominic Armato as Guybrush in the Monkey Island games.

Partly because when I played the first two games on the Amiga they had no voice acting but when I heard his Guybrush in Curse it felt right straight away.

And then playing the remastered versions it felt like they had always had the voices. Excellent casting, and that goes for many other ones - I thought Murray was also great as well as the Earl Boen Le Chuck.

Velvet Velour/VV (Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines)

Has the great lines and sounds great. A lot of the characters are voiced quite well in VTMB. It holds up quite well against some of the modern games now as well.

Too right. That voice, so dreamy...

All the voice actors from the KoF games, namely Kappei Yamaguchi.
Tomomichi Nishimura as Dictator in the SF Alpha/Zero and EX games ("Muwahahaha!")
Norio Wakamoto as Dictator, Oda Nobunaga and Dracula
Toshimitsu Arai as Rugal
Laim O'brien

Sir Patrick Stewart as Uriel Septim.

I could listen to Captain Picard read names from a phone book.

Kevin Spacey did a good job in Superman Returns as Lex Luthor. Haven't seen/heard his work in Advanced Warfare yet.

The voice work in GTA V is stellar, but In particular Steve Ogg as Trevor does an excellent job.

Also previously posted, but Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines has really good voice acting as well. Grey DeLisle as the Voerman Twins and Mary Elizabeth Mcglynn as Pisha stand out off the top of my head.

This might be controversial (lol) but I thoughtStephen Merchant as Wheatley was absolutely fantastic.

Ellen McLain as GLaDOS, too.

Surprised no one has mentioned Kreia from Kotor 2.

Best performance I have ever seen/heard.

Nier had really good voice acting. The banter between Weiss and Kaine was great. And there were some really powerful scenes near the end. Of course, it was all helped by a great localization.

Been thinking about this as it's something we've seen take a big jump in quality since last gen, top quality voicework is now becoming more common in gaming.

Camilla Luddington - Lara Croft - Tomb Raider (2013)

Let's try and stay away from the super obvious ones, like Troy Baker as Joel and come up with some lesser known examples as well.
What? She sounded like she phoned in Tomb Raider. The voice acting in TR2013 was bad.
Most memorable thing about her voice acting was when she just survived some village burning, then looks and says "Oh look, a boat" in the most deadpan voice imaginable.

But your other picks are all good.

Portal - glados
GTA5 - Trevor
TLou - the whole goddamn cast

Have to say, I doubt I'll be reminiscing about Camilla's Lara Croft 10 years from now.

I don't know the voice actor's name, but Shepard from Mass Effect is a very iconic voice now. Glados from Portal. Joel from The Last of Us. Shulk, Reyn and Riki from Xenoblade Chronicles, all for very different reasons.

I was always fond of Rene Auberjonois's voice performance of Mr. House in Fallout: New Vegas. Such a fascinating character and the voice really catches your attention, it almost made me want to side with him.

Say what you want about the writing, but dameon clarke as handsome jack was pretty damn stellar.

Charles Martinet was great as Orvus in Ratchet and Clank. Really, he was good as the dragon in Skyrim too. I do wonder if he has difficulty escaping from "being Mario", because he doesn't seem to get many roles outside of the Mario Bros/associates.

Rene Auberjonois as Mr. House in New Vegas is a personal favorite of mine. Joshua Graham was also well done by Kieth Szarabajka.

Patrick Stewart for all two minutes in Oblivion was pretty bold, too.

I often find bad performances to be way more memorable than good. For example I don't find the voice acting in TLOU that memorable at all even though it is absolute top tier.

However stuff like Barry Gjerde doing Barry Burton in original Resident Evil is the stuff I'll remember on my deathbed. If you are familiar with the game you can probably hear in your head the exact way the lines are said by memory.

Gray Fox played by Greg Eagles in MGS1 is still my all time favorite VA. It's really memorable and works flawlessly with the character. I still get chills with almost every line of dialog he has.

Just going to post the boss fight as an example. His twin snakes performance was bad though. But everyone sounded like they were half-assing it.
