Most memorable game ad of this generation.

This is about most memorable ads, not the most sincere.

I don't remember seeing the Halo 3 ads, but I do remember the one for ODST. The only reason I bought 3 was to play with friends; never cared about any game in the Halo series and I still don't. This commercial is amazing to me though:

I've played all the way through Halo 3 and Reach and most of Halo 2. Nothing in those games came close to capturing the feel of that ad. Don't know if ODST actually did, but I'm not too curious. At the time though, I seriously considered getting it just because of that.

We are ODST is one of my favorite ad's it's just so awesome.
 
Gears of War is the only videogame ad I can even remember (in terms of being good) from this gen. That and the one Assassin's Creed commercial that used the same music from the TV show House.
 
Memorable in a bad way: One of the worst has to be Sony's "Michael" ad. So incredibly lame and nerdy, and even then poorly done in some of the character likenesses. I don't think it would be effective in making any non-gamer want to be the eponymous "Michael".

Then the "baby" PS3 ads. Sony had some stinkers this gen. Jerry Lamberts ads weren't great but they were still Sony's best.

Correct. Although it isn't the ad with the most views (I believe one of the Modern Warfare games holds that title), it's easily the most memorable ad among enthusiasts.

The sense of dread and looming terror that the ad conveys matched GeOW1's "feel" almost perfectly; as soon as you started playing it, you got the sensation that you were walking into a war between good and absolute evil.

This ad is sweet too. The moment when the drop pod hits, and you just see the visor tint to black as the top of the pod blasts off, and the ODST runs out with the camera following is an awesome scene.
 
Gears definitely takes the spot as most memorable. Probably also "most misleading." There could not be a game more ill suited to the emotions that ad cultivates.

To mislead the consumer? Actually there's legislation preventing this kind of thing.
 
Not a TV-ad, but I think the Playstation "Ethos" trailer that they uploaded at the PS4 reveal is also very, very good.

It's like a rollercoaster through gaming history with the PS1, PS2, PS3 and ending with the PS4. Great music, great visuals and gets you pumped.

Wanted to post the LCD Soundsystem GTA IV TV-ad for it's iconic value but it was already posted.

But to be fair Halo threw so much money at their ad campaign for 3 that it ingrained with a lot of people.

I've always found the Gears ad ridiculous, it's almost as if you put Baby Elephant Walk under Schindler's List

Already been mentioned numerous times but definitely Halo 3: Starry Night.

The marketing buildup to launch for that game was (imo) the best of any game ever. Each Halo launch since has almost felt like a letdown compared to Halo 3.

Same here. I do agree that the Halo ones mentioned in here were good but I didn't remember them at all until they were mentioned. Mad World is the only one that even came to mind.
 
It's funny how Gears just became another dudebro blockbuster shooting game once they took out the horror elements from the first game.
 
Gears of War - Mad World... Even non gamers know and remember this.

I personally liked the Halo 3 starry night commercial, still saved on my xbox 360 hard drive.

I think it's because television has been in decline and Internet has taken over for advertising that we can only really think of examples from the start of this gen sort of.

I still remember the Lost Planet ads or the PS3 spinning babies and stuff.
 
Has to be Gears of War - Mad World. That advert convinced me to give Gears a go in my nearest GAME store and brought a 360 as a result of that

I think Rockstar are pretty masterful when it comes to their music choices. Their best one has to be Max Payne 3. I'd been waiting so very, very long for it. The music grabbed me the moment it started... and then the bullet-time began to take hold.
