Most memorable video game rentals?

I rented Krusty's Fun House on a three day rental for the NES. It's kind of like Lemmings, except you play as Krusty the Clown and your goal is to lead a bunch of marching rats to their deaths by manipulating the environment.

I needed to move a block from one location to another on an early level. Couldn't do it. No manual of course for a rental. The internet hadn't been invented yet. None of my friends had played it. I tried on and off for two days. Tried pushing, pulling, pressing every button while pushing and pulling, exploring the environment to see if there was something I was missing. No luck.

Later, just messing around, I accidentally vacuumed the block up into Krusty's body, moved around, and defecated it out at another location. Turns out you had to stand on top of the block, press down to make it disappear into your inventory, move, and then press down again to make it magically reappear at the new location. Had to return the game in an hour.

OMG this game is wonderful. Thanks for reminding me of its existence.

TMNT IV: Turtles in Time (Snes)

we rented the game and beat it and I think we went to the mall the next day and I bought a copy

Final Fantasy for the Ps1. I hated it so bad I went to return it the same say and thats when I found out Blockbuster didn't let you exchange rentals lol.

Hey GAF. Was wondering, which video game rentals stood out to you? Some of mine are Super Mario Sunshine, Bioshock 2, and Mario Parties 5 and 6.
Renting Mario Kart 64 when I was like 11. I had Super Mario Kart and was just impressed to be seeing 3D games at that time. It hasn't aged the best IMO but good memories.

Wind Waker from our local rental store (not Blockbuster). I was so shit at games (and therefore slow) that we ended up renting it 4 times and then my dad decided it'd be cheaper to just buy it outright. Score.

Zelda 2 and seeing our friend's profile. Also, Duck Tales. Was so excited to play it again the moment I woke up.

also TMNT 4 Turtles in Time. knew I wanted it for my birthday, but couldn't wait to play it so I had my mom take me to rent it

I never owned an N64 so I went in thinking it was going to play like its prequel, Hey You Pikachu.

BIG MISTAKE.

First time I learned a game could actually suck. Returned it later and got to play Pikmin 1 & 2 (way better).

My friend and I rented ESPN Extreme Games for the PS1, and the disc was scratched and kept skipping and had trouble loading.

We called the rental place, and they told us to turn the console upside down.

Real gamers will understand.

Ayyy, when I went to blockbuster, I would open the game boxes and check if the back of the disc was scratched.

Would put the game back on the shelf if it was really dirty.

A shame, I once had my eyes on a TMNT game but it was too scratched looking.

My answer has to be Revelations: Persona. I borrowed a friend's Playstation to play it and it ended up being my favorite game of all time. It was also the primary reason I kept the Playstation I bought to play FFVII which I ended up hating.

Super Mario 64. I used to always go to the game store I think it was Hollywood Rental or something (there were a lot of game rental stores though back then) and I would always marvel at it as a kid. Didn't have an N64 until like late 1998 or mid 1999 iirc, but the first time we rented it I think I barely got anywhere before we had to return it. I might not have even entered the fucking castle Peach's Castle knowing how dumb I was back then but it was fun as hell just playing in the courtyard jumping around and hearing the birds chirp, jumping into the water and hearing it, swimming, the sound of the camera angle changing to your direction of choice. The box cover art was literally perfect. It made me want to play so badly as a kid. The colors were amazing to me and seeing Mario flying, it just looked amazing and I knew it was fun. Was always excited to see that Got Milk? commercial with Mario and the skateboard hahahaha good times....

Rented Super Man 64 as well. I think my bro played a bit, then I flew through some rings or some bullshit and that was it. The game was literally just Superman, some green gaseous atmosphere, and some fucking rings you can fly through. Not even enough to hold your attention for 5 minutes. Maybe even not enough for more than a few

Renting Gex for the PS1 was really fun to play around with

Some shooting like game with two players that looked like colorful potatoes basically was fun as hell to play. The bullets were round like balls, and it was a target shooting type game I think. It's called Point Blank actually, I just looked it up. Very fun game
