Most overrated movie?

In your opinion, what is the most overrated movie? Or a movie that was so well received, and you just don't understand how because it was so mediocre or even complete shit.

For me any Nolan film is way overrated, but they are mostly decent, not great.

So that being said, an easy pick for me is:

I mean this movie wasn't even mediocre, it was absolute garbage. Just my opinion.

Edit: In short, why I think its garbage: Extremely slow and boring. No story. Not realistic for a movie that is meant to be convincing. Terrible dialogue and acting among many other things. The only thing going for it was the technical aspect of it, which to me, wasn't even very impressive.

The Notebook.

Any kind of fucker that thinks that threatening suicide in order to get a girl to date you, while she's in the middle of a date with a different dude is romantic needs to get their head examined. Fuck The Notebook.

There is absolutely no way this ends well.

Agreed.

Often because the perception of how highly something is rated is dependent on what circles you're in.

For instance, in the casual circles I dabble in, The Dark Knight is overrated, but in the pretentious film circles I dabble in The Dark Knight is underrated.

Even The Prestige? I gotta hear opinions on that one for being only decent.

Your opinion suck because you don't argue one bit.

Explain why it sucked
This is my problem any time someone says something is overrated. They never explain way or go into any sort of detail. It's just another way of saying "I don't like this" but instead of just that, you can bring others' opinions down with it.

The Dark Knight is the most over rated in recent memory. Not saying it's bad at all, but watching it without the prior love of Batman and judging it on its own, it's just an average movie.

Avatar.

I cant even remember the names of anyone outside of the two main characters.

Outside of the visuals there is nothing special about it.

Avatar and Gravity have been called overrated so often, they've actually become underrated. They're also both very good films.

As for a film that I think is overrated, it's tricky. Many of the things I dislike about Shawshank are the same reasons why others love the film. On the other hand, I find Blade Runner to be a very glossy, shallow film—which seems to directly conflict with the prevailing view that it's this contemplative, profound film. So that's my pick: Blade Runner.

By what standard, I wonder, is Gravity "absolute garbage"? I didn't care much for it myself though I enjoyed it, and it would certainly seem overrated, but garbage? Come on.

I don't understand the need for such hyperbolic language to communicate your dislike for any particular thing - especially if that particular thing is met with widespread acclaim and success.

I would argue it's appeal to non-Batman fans or lovers is exactly why it was so successful.

Oh shit, and this. Glad it didn't immediately pop into my head. Unlike The Dark Knight, I actively dislike this derivative piece of shit. Such a let down.
