Most peaceful games you've played

Chrono Cross. Just walking around the first few areas and the world map was so serene, especially with the amazing soundtrack.

- wandering aimlessly in the huge open-world of FUEL
- wandering aimlessly in the tiny linear world of Dear Esther

and more recently (yesterday, actually):
- Resurrecting Mars flora, in Wakin Mars

I know there's a couple of other games that are on the tip of my brain that I just can't seem to remember right now, but I will say:
Journey
Botanicula
Machinarium

FEZ is pretty high up there, with the pixeljunk games

and Animal Crossing of course

I found getting headshots in Call of Duty 2 to the relaxing sounds of R. Kelly, Michael Jackson, and Earth Wind, and Fire to be the most relaxing thing I have ever done.

No doubt Thomas Was Alone has had a mention. If not that is my nomination.

And Journey, but that would've been mentioned already surely.

Even though throughout the games you are constantly slaying all kinds of demons, I always found a certain peacefulness or I guess calmness to the Otogi series.

Also, The Elder Scrolls games and Animal Crossing. I wish I had played most of these games listed in this thread.

Kirby games.

Yes, very peaceful.

Until a giant eyeball appears and begins shooting its own blood at you. Oh, and then it rips out its own iris in a geyser of blood and attempts to bodyslam you with it.

Outside of that, just peace and rainbows.

GTA? come on now!
I dread to think of playing a game you consider not peaceful then (><)

GTA is perfect for casual cruising around town. You know, just zone out and enjoy the atmosphere. I do it plenty of times. I love randomly driving through Liberty City.

One of my favorite memories of gaming was of playing Dragon Quest 8 for the first time. Apart from the random battles I love love love LOVE that game. The music, the characters, the story. It was just a very innocent and soothing experience. Like having my favorite book read to me when I was a little girl.

Chrono Cross and Trigger for the same reasons. The music and environments.

Outside of progressing the story I did plenty of peaceful things.

I think I had a date once in GTAIV free roam. Someone flew me around the city in a helicopter. We ran around in the central park fountain. That was peaceful

But it's just one aspect of a game, it doesn't make a game relaxing or peaceful, because you know... it isn't.

Endless Ocean and Animal Crossing for me.

Also, Rez in what I refer to as stoner mode. You're invincible and just coast through the stages. Now, I don't do drugs, but if I did, then I'd have this on endless.

The first one that came to mind: Doshin the Giant

Knytt underground, it has a really peaceful atmosphere and you can't even kill the very few enemies present that are nothing more than moving obstacles.

Endless Ocean and probably a Train Simulator must be the most peaceful.

Flower and Journey are mostly peaceful but they have their tense moments within the overall emotional arc.

Personally though I find the most peaceful game ever is Shadow Of The Colossus when you're not fighting. Just riding around, finding little oasis with turtles and wildlife, the sound of the surf by the ocean... outside of combat it's sublimely peaceful experience.

On that note any open world game where you can duck combat can be very peaceful, even GTA - just driving around in rain at night with ambient music is actually very peaceful. Read Dead Redemption, Skyrim, Oblivion, etc. can all be pretty peaceful and have some lovely sights.

On that note I should probably add Myst titles which offered a pretty peaceful environment to explore in most cases.

Journey is definitely the answer. I still boot the game every now and then, if only for a few minutes— very therapeutic.

I also want to add Kerbal Space Program.

You just build a humongous rocket or plane, stick some pilots in it and launch it into the skies above. When it works, it's utterly calming. Coasting through space, zooming across the solar system, entering orbit around or even landing on various planets, asteroids and moons... Very awe-inspiring.

Of course there's abject failure and the resulting explosions, crashes and such, but that's why you just load up your known-good ship configs if you want to relax.

The slight humour behind everything helps the relaxed atmosphere.

There's also always ...that.

Minecraft on peaceful mode
My pick as well. Especially when I put on a podcast, the hours just melt away, in a zen-like state. That's not to say that the ambient music that comes with it isn't peaceful, because it is as well. Podcasts just feel pretty complementary to it. You don't need your full undivided attention to enjoy both of them.

I know everyone's compared it to LEGO already, but it really is the best comparison there is. It brings me back to the days where I could just end up quietly building something on auto-pilot.

Recently? Take On Mars. Just the teleoperation of rovers on the Red Planet. Quiet, ruminative, lonely and downright gorgeous through the lens of a contemporary scientific mission.

The obvious picks areFlowerandJourney, wonderful experiences.

It may sound crazy, but in Sleeping Dogs when walking round the market area at night time - I love the setting and the atmosphere that game had. The nighttime/raining in a big city drenched with neon and lights setting is one of the reasons I'm quite excited to play both Watchdogs and Second Son - I can just see myself wandering around aimlessly soaking it all in.
