I find these lists so funny. The UK list is just so classic. They are "british" names through and through. The US list is just whats "hip" at the moment. So short-sighted.

If you change the spelling of a common name to be unique, your child will hate you for it.
If you make your child one of 10, 20, 100 others with the same name in their class, they will hate you for it.
If you name your child after the main character in the worst fiction ever created, they will hate you for it.

Please people. Read these lists before you name your child and immediately cross them off your own name lists.

My wife and I can only agree on 4 names for kids. 2 male and 2 female.

So if we end up having either 3 boys or 3 girls, we're screwed.

What, no Skylar?

I'm fine with the name I've got (Michael). I don't know, if I had children in the future, I wouldn't like to choose a popular name, but I wouldn't choose an out there name either.

I hope all of my future children will enjoy their mythologically-derived names. Nyx and Atlas are coming back in style, baby.

I feel like this is just "name your kid for a character on TV," but with a classier veneer and a longer syndication run. :-\

Telemachus is certainly an upgrade over Major though. Does no one even read Catch-22 anymore?

On the other hand, I'm named for an ethnic cleanser so maybe there are worse things in life to name your kid for.

We've already decided on up to four names for our potential kids, and I'm happy to see that none of them are on there.

Coming from a Jacob, having a super common name can really blow sometimes.

Liam is the upset entry to the top 10, making the list for the first time. An Irish short form of William, Liam didn't enter the U.S. top 1,000 until 1967. Its popularity has been spurred by celebrity Liam Neeson. Liam replaces Daniel.

Yeah. Right...........

I know I'm going to sound like a dick but... I hope most people in this thread saying what they named their children are joking.

My daughter was born in Novermber and we named her:

Aisley [eyes-lee]

People give me shit for not spelling it 'Isley'.

Fuck those people.

Looks like it should be pronounced ays-lee.

You dun goofed

Thru the last few years I've been a compiling a list of great names for a daughter.

Esrah
Camille
Izela
Emile
Eliza
Hephina
Kloe
Nia

If you take one of these.. and put them to good use, just know I'm smiling.
Those are what rose to the top?

Why inflict Kloe on someone? Why not just spell it Chloe?

Some time ago on some baby name forum I saw that people had no clue about the correct pronunciations for the -va names. Sad to see, feel sorry for the kids.

Don't give your daughter a unique name that will lead her to a lifetime of people misspelling and mispronouncing her name. Think about the experience she'll have in grade school, I say this as a guy saddled with a shitty and hard to pronounce name...

Wife and I are fighting over names right now. At least we both agree that we don't want to go with the most popular names.

Unfortunately I happen to really like many of the most popular names for girls. I'll just threaten divorce if my wife continues to hate Cecilia.

I tried to keep it classy with my daughter. Her name is Lillian Mae.

Shameless excuse to post her picture.

Still haven't quite narrowed it down for a boy name if I end up having one though. Leaning towards: Benjamin Jayne or James Cecil (Cecil was my father's middle name).

You may have to marry me then. My husband hates the name Cecilia as well. I told him if we have another girl that's the name I want.

The problem then comes if you name your child and several years later that name sees a spike in popularity.

We named our first daughter Aubrey and that name has jumped quite a bit in those three years, much to my dismay.
