I believe that is from SVC chaos, when you lose to Athena (the goddess from the old NES games. The Athena from KOF is suppose to be her reincarnation) she turns the opponent into an animal. Mai is a cow because I assume it's analogous to her large...udders, while someone like Chun-Li is turn into an ostrich because of dem legs. If you lose to the red arremer you turn into some demon or folklore monster.

Despite all of the obvious sprites that OP could have chosen to get the ball rolling, he went for one that I've never even heard of.

Outside of Space Invader/Pacman and Ghosts/Sonic/Nintendo's characters/Megaman, most of the ones posted ITT aren't instantly recognisable.

I'm not even sure Sparkster counts as instantly recognisable.

The sprite is so recognizable that anything that when anything resembles it, people say it looks like Pac-Man. For example, a pie with a piece cut out always reminds people of Pac-Man.
