Most replayable non-multiplayer games

It's a shame Alpha Protocol hasn't been mentioned. One of the most fun and repayable games this gen. Story and your character build can change dramatically from one playthrough to the next depending on your decisions
 
Most of what I'd want to suggest has already been mentioned.

Final Fantasy 12 International (vanilla is crap) is highly replayable. It's extremely fun (for me, anyway) to try out different party compositions with different characters, do weak mode (level 1) runs, collect gear, etc.

I could just replay any of the Mario games, the Genesis Sonic games, and the first few Mega Man X games for the rest of my life and be happy. They never get old for me.
 
If you are into ARPGs, Diablo II LOD single player with ATMA could occupy your time forever. Game is crazy fun if you deck yourself out with perfect gear from the get go, and the challenge doesn't really go away either. It does require a tolerance for grinding and an interest in item finding, but D2 has the most beautiful, interesting gear of any game I have played, and there is an enormous amount of potential for very wacky and fun builds that almost no one in vanilla online ever used once you break a few of the game rules.

For racing, Burnout Paradise is both very cheap and very time consuming. A great purchase.

Puzzle Quest is infuriating and addicting.
 
The first Mass Effect. Every time I finish that game I feel like starting it all over again.

I've replayed ME2 maybe once or twice, but I finished replaying ME1 for the 5-6th time about 6 months ago and I already want to give it another go.

The story and atmosphere just continue to draw me in. So good.
 
This game exists and it is beautiful

I approve of this post, spent countless hours just time trial'ing the courses, let alone playing it competitively, be it on single player or multiplayer.

Edit: but as magnificent as WipeOut is, it has nothing on the best racing game ever created, F-ZERO GX, I used to fucking wake up and go to bed playing that game, saying that I've played. It for 2000 hours in my whole life would be an understatement.
 
Yeah, "roguelikes" is what you're looking for. FTL and Binding of Isaac are my two favorites, they really click with me, always fun to start them up for a new run when not in the mood for anything in particular.
 
Spelunky?
Came in to recommend this and Velocity Ultra. Both have a wonderful old school arcade addictiveness to them. I feel like they are two great examples of the "just one more" game, where I find myself constantly itching to jump back in. Also, both games have outstanding, really catchy music that lingers with me for days.
 
The earlier Hitman games. There was always many ways of completing missions. and depending on difficulty/ranks you wanted to achieve there was tons of replay value.
 
Fire Emblem games (that are not Awakening(ok maybe some aspects)) WILL take you at least 8-10 playthroughs if you want to max out supports, find all the hidden chapters, S rank, and experiment with every unit. Helps that the games are fun as hell, too.
 
First reply nailed it with Fallout. I've put many hours into that, starting fresh multiple times.

Resident Evil 4 is a game I used to run for fun on GC, I've completed it more timed than any other game.

Symphony of the Night is one I love to replay. You can throw different challenges in there just to mix it up
 
Doom II - on PC, there are literally so many custom-made levels and mods that you probably couldn't play them all through in a single lifetime.

F-Zero GX - not only is there an incredibly high skill ceiling, you can also construct your own ships from individual components to add near infinite replayability.

Timesplitters 2 & 3 - gets a mention because the bots in multiplayer are really good and you can have a great time even by yourself. Tonnes of characters, weapons and levels and even a custom level editor so you can make your own single and multiplayer levels.

The Binding of Isaac - I had to force myself to delete this as it began to consume all my spare time. I escaped with only about 100 hours spent, which is considerably higher than any other game I have on Steam.
 
For me it's gotta be anything with a technically high skill ceiling and scoring system. So Bayonetta, Vanquish, Super Meat Boy, F-Zero GX, DMC3, NGB/NG2, recently Race The Sun and Volgarr the Viking, Soundodger+ needs a shout out too. Souls series.

But from top to bottom Ikaruga beats them all, on every merit, replayability, tactical depth, technically high skill ceilings, and insanely difficult scoring system to truly perfect.
 
Castlevania Harmony of Despair is great even in Single Player. Tons of loot, terrible drop rate = tons of replays

Warriors Orochi 3 and Chrono Trigger are others.
