Most satisfying melee attack in a game?

Dead Space's melee system is awesome. Best stomp ever.

Also, 007 Blood Stone has some awesome melee attacks. It's pretty good, gets a bad wrap IMO.

Red Steel 2. No equal.

I came in to post this. Can't believe it was one above my post.

For truly satisfying combat, it's Red Steel 2. Whether you're a hardcore crybaby or not, being active actually does have a biochemical reaction to your brain. Combine this with excellent accuracy and an insane array of special and finishing melee moves and you have the most rewarding combat available. Accept no substitutes.

Super Smash Bros. (64)'s Ness was majorly OP. The sound of that baseball connecting back then, which won me so many matches, was always oh so satisfying!

Absolutely. The game structure was horribly basic but I got a kick out of the combat every single time. The finishers and special moves all felt so good.

Kinda melee since it does do damage, but doing zero shift then proceeding to pummel the shit out of a mech in Zone of the Enders 2 was amazing.

Halo 1. The animation looks very fluid, it wooshes like it does some damage, and the smack sound you get when you hit an enemy is practically perfect.

Shame all the other Halo's make the melee feel so weak.

This or The Godfather: Blackhand Ed. I especially like the visceral nature of grabbing the customer of a guy I'm trying to shake down and just beating the snot out of them by bashing their head into the register (with the expected "PING!" and money popping out) or threatening to push them into an oven or the like. The motion controls work very well here.

Everytime you punch or kick something in Asura's Wrath. It just looks and feels like it really hurts. I think it's thanks to the instant the screen freezes just a millisecond before impact. Hold your breath, BAM!

Am i the only one who finds these immensely unsatisfying? It's more like watching a cutscene than the immediate gratification you get from a good melee.

There are some great choices in this thread but these aren't imo.
Can only talk about Vanquish, but it's definitely what turned me off from the game for a while. It's a damn cut scene and the punches have no weight to it.

Reverse Falcon/Warlock Punch in Smash Bros, just when you thought those moves couldn't get any better you can add a little spin to them, turning a miss into a hit or just going for style points.
Also damn near any spike/meteor mash from the series, Ganondorf's down air, Mario's forward air and any DK one in particular.

Speaking of Donkey Kong, any time you face one of the bigger enemies in DK Jungle beat and use bongo bashing (or Waggle) to deliver a flurry of punches.

Monster Hunter is just one big pile of satisfying melee attacks, as a hammer user i'm just going to go for any time you conk a monster right on the noggin and into a dizzy state. Not sure where the Gunlance's Wyvern Fire move falls, being a big blast it's probably not melee but you want to be pretty close for it, but yeah very satisfying.

Clothesline from hell, preferably in WWF No Mercy but other Wrestling games will do, certain striking moves have KO properties, walloping your opponent at high speed and watching them crumple is a joy. And Steel Chairs are always fun.

Another mention for Dark Souls Parry/Riposte combo, I could be here all day, there's nothing quite like satisfying melee.

Now if only it had more variety in enemy designs... Still pretty fun game.

Smash Bros series is the king when it comes to this and this since the knee and so on have already been mentioned: smash hit with a baseball bat. The sound effect just seals the deal.
