Most satisfying shotgun in a game.

The pump-action Counter-Strike shotgun was my friend. Even when it was considered underpowered, it was extremely fun to use. I'd go into the Uni server with that thing, the entire server full of AWP's and M4A1's, and get people angry at me for killing them with the shotgun.

At one point I killed someone by jumping on their head with it.

Oh, and seconding the HL1 shotgun. I was so disappointed in the HL2 shotgun (really, most of the weapons in HL2 didn't feel all that 'solid' compared to HL1)

I couldn't disagree more, the HL1 does have the secondary fire thing though.

Offline, of course.
Yes!

I don't know why but Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield (PC) comes to mind. I had so many countless hours of fun in the MP so that may be slanting me towards it though.

Yeah the ME1 shotgun is great. You could almost snipe with it when your skill was high enough :lol

In ME I my go-to weapon for the finale was the Spectre Shotgun with Explosive Ammo IX. It bascially turned the weapon into a grenade launcher that would overheat with one shot but kill three or four geth in a single salvo. Love.

RE5 was a great game, made so in part because of the Hydra. A devestating weapon with range perks. Once fully upgraded enemies that were close up simply disintigrated into red paste. Far away enemies took it in the face. It passed through enemies so you could see both effects in one blast. This shotgun was so bad-assed it had it own unique aiming animation; an off-to-the-side arching back stance rather than the over-the-shoulder stance that every other weapon used.

It wins.

Oh No!!!!!!!!!
That movie is so fail lol.

I also nominate FEAR , best gun physics , i dunno WTF monolith was thinking with fear 2 , and fear 3 looks like fear 2 again....another fail.

Running around in a mech suit blasting everyone is not scary whatsoever.

yeah im a huge mass effect fan, but i would not say it's shotgun is one of the most satisfying to use. yeah it owned shit up at higher levels, but it was really boring to use.

doom, left 4 dead, gears of war and resident evil have pretty cool shotguns.

the Jackhammer in Max Payne was a good one that no one has mentioned yet.

generally I'm agreeing with all of the ones posted though.

Killzone 2 gets my vote easy. Soldier of Fortunes packs a punch too, might be more in line with how easily it tears limbs mind...

CoD 4

the first shotgun you get, I can't remember the name right now, but that was one of the most satisfying guns in that game to me. I used it as my main gun too

Also I feel your thread title is a little backwards.
Yes, I love the sound of its shells dropping to the ground and the way monsters just fly from one side of the room to the other when you pump em full of lead :D It's either that or...

Hail to the king baby..

DOOM II double-barreled in third place.

Here's a left field answer: MGS3's shotgun. Enemies ridiculously fly backwards like in the movies when you shoot them. :lol They took that away in MGS4...

When it works 40mm shotgun in Bad Company 2
When it leaves the guy at 5% health and you are facing a maddeningly long reload animation or a lengthy weapon switch animation it is the worst shotgun ever.

Special mention goes to the original hand cannon in Actionquake, nothing beats blowing a guy 3 feet in the air and out of a window.

Goddamnit son how you could make an OP like that and not post the Half Life shotgun is fucking BEYOND me.

Not the best by any means, but a fully modded hunting shotgun + VATS = good times (Fallout: New Vegas)

Stranglehold should get an honorable mention for the Shotgun + Barrage ability combo:

(even better in some parts of the later levels with more enemies and visually more appealing stuff to destroy)

edit:
now that I think of it, when you turn the sound up while playing it reminds me of that scene:

bambambambam :D

I'll go with the FEAR shotgun over the RE 4 shotguns because of the way you can make an entire soldier explode into a ball of goo if you catch him just right.

Am I really the first person bringing up Soldier of Fortunes USAS 12. In a game meant for shotguns, it was king.

There really is only one answer, everything else is simply inferior.

I dunno, gibbing someone into fine chunks is certainly super-satisfying, but firing this doesn't really carry much weight otherwise.

Never played MGS4. What's it look like? I have always wanted to play a modern/3D game that had a Pancor Jackhammer.

In Max Payne you can use a jackhammer during the later levels. That game is almost ten years old though.

Someone else mentioned it because of the ability to blow off limbs.

Personally, Halo 3's shotgun is probably the most satisfying kill in any multiplayer fps. Its lude, crude, and pops someone's shield off and kills them in one point blank shot. Somethin about it just feels so powerful and right. I like the shotgun in Reach, but Halo 3's just does it for me (its the only weapon that got worse in Reach, in my opinion).

Silenced Shotgun from Far Cry 2, if only because it reminded me of No Country for Old Men :lol
DUDE RIGHT!?

Best DLC ever just for that (also the ATV and that one truck thing with a .50 on it). Oh, shit. I need to play that game again...

I've already put around 40 hours into it, beating it twice. :lol

The freedom is so awesome though. Love dropping mortars on dudes then stealthing my way in with the silenced shotty and pistol to pick up the pieces.

Its too bad the sawed off was inexplicably shitty.

what movie is it?

Another vote for ME1 shotgun. I played Infiltrator on my first playthrough so I didn't find out about this gun until my second playthrough with a Vanguard. It's probably one of the reasons why I liked Vanguards so much. It made those confrontations so satisfying.

*Bad guys show up with goons*
Bad guy: I have you now!
Shepard: Bitch plz *BOOM*
