Most satisfying shotgun in a game.

This and UT's are two of the most satisfying shotguns I can remember. They have a thud to them other games seem to lack.

Too bad they ruined it in Crysis 2 by the sounds of things.

Yeah, the Crysis shotgun was pretty awesome, and the ragdoll reactions were effing perfect.

But, really, let's face it, the reason the Crysis and FEAR shotguns aren't in the top tier is because they don't take up enough of the screen. These dudes need to be huge.

The Quake 2 super shotgun is huge, has a great sound effect, and gibs fuckers left and right. Personally, it takes an easy win for this thread. The silenced shotty in FarCry 2 does come close for me, because the sound and look is perfect, and I'm a fan of No Country. But nothing can match up to Quake 2's in presence.
 
I really need to replay Crysis and not be a pussy-assed silenced sniper so I can try that shotgun sometime.

*Oh and Rainbow Six: Raven Shield with a scoped pump-shotty using slugs was pretty great.

No weapons in HL2 feel satisfying except for the phys gun and revolver. Don't even start with that shit.

I quite enjoyed the shotgun in Killzone 2. I remember when I initially played KZ2 that thing was extremely overpowered :lol I think they nerfed it a little bit in the subsequent patches, but it still remained one of my favorite MP weapons.
 
FEAR.

I remember hitting slo-mo jumping from a higher ledge to get down to an enemy, doing the slide move and blasting him to bits with the shotgun. Was so amazing.

I mean, come on. They invented the best shot gun in a game, shtick.

This thing looked like it was made in a mountain man workshop but boy did those inbreds know their stuff! Take it with solid slug and the shotgun expert perks and it becomes an awesome hillbilly sniper rifle. I wouldn't say it was the most powerful shotgun in the game but it was certainly the most fun!

Nothing compares to gibbing a dude in slo mo with a perfectly aimed shotty blast to the tits.
 
I gotta say, most shotguns in games are pretty good. It would be harder to think of shotguns in games that suck.

I can't think of a shotgun I haven't thoroughly enjoyed using yet.

But the one that really stands out for me is the Doom 1/2 pump action.
 
I loved the Q3 shotgun, but I have no idea if that is because I had so much happy fragging with that title, or if the gun was actually fun. I miss FPSs. I can't play them on consoles.
 
Doom 2. Really, Doom 2. After having played tens of PC FPSs out there, Doom 2 and the awesome super shotgun.

The dry, rough sound, the thick, pixelated blood splatter. OP disappoints, comments get it right :D
 
it's a tie between halos shotty and gears of wars shotty. For halo it's not too much of the look or sound but the fact that you can dominantly control the more claustophobic maps with this one weapon. For gears.... Well shooting your enemy into giblets is just fun.
 
I loved the USAS 12 in Soldier of Fortune 2. A fully automatic shotgun with 20 rounds, which made great use of the human destruction system they built in the game.

The problem initially was that when you held the flashlight button (the iron-sights button for every other weapons) your view wouldn't change but you'd still get the extremely sticky snap-to auto-aim that other weapons had in zoomed mode, minus the reduced turn speed and the like. You barely needed to aim, and it was a one-hit kill in most close to medium range situations. They didn't nerf it as much as they fixed a horrible game-breaking exploit.

Yup love the guns in Killing Floor because of that. It's hard going back to L4D2 because of that. The shotgun in L4D2 just doesn't match up to the shotgun or any other weapon.
 
two of my favoriate shotguns, not just in call of duty

Pre-patch Akimbo 1887 in MW2
- very long range
- fast shooting speed
- large clip size

AA-12 with extended mag in MW2
- very lethal at close range
- capable of taking down multiple enemies in very short period
- very fast reloading time
 
Fear's shotgun is the prime standard for carnage. Nothing like reducing your enemy to a fine mist and flying limbs to assert your superiority.

Painkiller's shotgun gets a nod as well. 100foot boss? Reduce that bastard in milliseconds with the proper tarots.
