it would be so funny, xbox going exclusive again, nobody buying the games and want them all added to gamepass because then they are free! which would make them raise the prices of gamepass again =)

I think they have seen the money that their games make at ps and one day will figure out being a 3th party publisher would maek much more sense that whatever the f they are doing now. they pretty much painted themselfs into a corner and are waiting for the paint to dry...
 
Wasn't there a thread about Asha not being able to do exclusives because Satya wouldn't let her, maybe she will use this as evidence to get her way

When I buy something expensive there is a cognitive dissonance that goes on. The mind thinks, did I make a mistake. Thus, aftercare is in order. Aftercare is important after a deal so that the consumer can feel loved and special and feel like the product has given them an identity. Nintendo consoles have an identity. Keeping that identity off PC helps with my cognitive dissonance and makes me have a better day.

Think I'm full of shit? This is a much much bigger thing when purchasing luxury cars. The aftercare happens over YEARS and keeping features away from the plebs a big motivator for purchasers. It's about having what others do not. When everyone can get it for free, it loses its value. I'm not just buying a game console. I'm buying an identity. The aftercare for a luxury car goes on until the next luxury car is purchased. It never stops. It's about making owners feel special.

At some point you have to wonder if they deserve it.

The best they'll do is throwing a bone with things that won't have an impact on their business.
As a matter of fact Xbox simply isn't a viable platform to sustain exclusives and at this point there isn't any credibility left to convince people that all their games won't be available on all platforms eventually.

They could have a 3 months window on selected titles but it's irrelevant.
 
Exclusives lives matter, make exclusives great again.

I can only even consider the idea of owning an Xbox in the future if there's something I actually want to play that I can only get there.

Best case scenario MS might release a few xbox and pc only games for a while, but, inevitably, when xbox fails again, they will go back full multiplatform.

Nintendo and Playstation consumers are many and like buying games. Xbox consumers are fewer and there's also game pass only consumers on it.

If Sony did it by pulling games from other platforms, then Microsoft can do the same.



The only difference is that they will go with the 200 million+ Windows gamers.

They will dissappear. The best case escenario is to be a publisher. But the money is not worth for MS.
 
The success of the X360 was due to the many exclusive games. They will do the same with XBOX Mode on PC, offering a console experience as well. If they do it right, no one else will have a chance against this Trojan strategy.

I guess there's some ambiguity here, because I interpreted "BC" not to just refer to the BC catalog but to the ability to access their digital library. It came up a lot in discussions about Magnus. "Will I be able to access my digital library?" was one of the main concerns. We had discussions about the "BC chip" in Magnus that would presumably facilitate this. It seemed pretty important to the Xbox guys, because without that BC capability, they would lose access to their entire digital library.

But yeah, in the narrow sense of "We want more games added to the BC catalog," I don't think it's a big deal.

It was due partly to that but also to beating PS3 to market by a year and being considerably cheaper.

Wait, "no one else will have a chance"? That's some serious wishful thinking.

Exclusives make the console more important, make devs focus on one single machine and use the full potential of the hardware, make the competitor look for an answer and give the consumers the sensation of a good choise into picking a particular brand, aka brand loyalty.
 
I was hyped for the amount of upvotes I til I read a couple of comments....I swear this people are fucking stupid.
People crying about anti consumer, games to be improved need to be in other systems, everyone needs to be able to play no matter the system etc etc...


Fuck, did these people started to play just this gen?? Bloody hell, Xbox and the xbox 360 had fucking awesome exclusive games,

Comon Xbox exclusive input was quality during these days

I literally bought the original Xbox and Xbox 360 because of jade empire and Jet set radio and 360 because of Oblivion and dead rising.

I remember having a PS2 and one day went round to my mates who had an Xbox and we played Halo that alone was enough for me to buy one myself, 360 I bought day one so many great exclusives, but now I only have PS5 what reason is there for me to own an Xbox Series X if all the games are on PS5.

Windows Store exclusive would fuck them harder than just pulling their games off PS5 lol.

The people have been pretty consistent with their disdain of Windows stores over the past 20 years.
 
I used to care much more about exclusives back then. In my mind, I didn't see it as "let's limit the audience of a game" but I saw that exclusives were the only games that would truly push a console to its limit and intended use of its internals (and accessories) - right now I feel that has changed a little bit since most consoles and PCs are like very baselined and provide little extra on top of that. PS5 ultra fast SSD access was one of those features, but I feel it was really just utilized by Ratchet and Clank dimension shift and for fast traveling on open world games, so developers are not really designing the games around it as I had hoped for.
 
I like the idea of players voice.

I know other companies use it to prioritise things and it can work well assuming they listen.

Just improve the store then? The MS Store loads pretty quickly in 2026 and has no launcher that eats your RAM.

Well that's because there is no big reason to use it over Steam currently, unless you are subscribed to Game Pass.

A bigger cut towards developers, first party AAA "exclusive games", a slicker user experience and a bigger third party selection of games would help a lot.

For better or worse is not helping that Microsoft keeps changes the way they behave in the market and just change their mind every 6 months.....




But I still bet whatever that there is no way that whoever says that has even have a Xbox console....it makes no sense saying that if you actually own the ecosystem why would you like if someone can play halo on PS5?? Is just taking out value of the console that you own....

A quick look in the past tells us that it benefited all players for each console to have exclusive games. It's not like it is a totally unreasonable choice. Of course this implies being able to deliver good games on a regular basis, and exceptional games for your main series. Nobody wants to play an average Halo game. And outside of Forza, this is far from being a given...

More BC is definitely a top choice for me. There are many OG games I would love to play.

Exclusives made sense in eras past where people (kids) would have 5 to 10 games on a console's lifetime, with very few games being released actually worth playing (or that even reached players due to limited distribution problems).

Nowadays you can easily build up libraries larger than you can play on a life time. I can replace an astrobot or a god of war with 10 other games if i dont get to play those.

As far as I know....Microsoft still gets their 70-80% of every sold copy of their games on steam....like everyone else as well. I see no problem here. Of course you can throw that away and try to go the exclusivity way like Epic tried not long ago....just not sure if the losses in sales will compensate for the gain in royalties. Its a very risky bet and you are basically declaring war to the whole steam crowd! Good luck with that! ;)

Don't be so sure about that. Steam could easily just be a store within XB Mode for many. And if they're using XB Mode, they have the XB Store and Game Pass right in front of them, right in front of their noses. Plus it could add a number of extra features compared to the Steam big picture. We'll see in the coming months, they're only just releasing it to the masses.

Xbox mode isn't the magic bullet you are making it out to be. If we are going to point out overconfidence, I'd start there.

They get 70-80% also from Sony and Nintendo stores just like any publisher. Like EA and Ubisoft

So explain this to me:

What's the difference selling on Steam vs Playstation and Switch??

They are still a third-party publisher

MS days as a real first-party ended in 2014
