That's odd. Do you launch it from the desktop? It will just sandbox whatever your default browser is.

I launch Sandboxie then click start browser.

Handbrake - Transcode media to bring down their file size change the format of the video/audio streams. Check out the nightly's for QuickSync support.

I second this thing. It's amazing, and has helped me out in a jam when I had to get a video to a client but had slow internet. Amazing little program.

Firefox should work fine. If it doesn't launch, then maybe it's that your SIE (sandboxie) wasn't installed properly.

You can also just open the program, and drag/drop executable to make them start sandboxed. However, I only use SIE for programs that I don't trust, which is rare.

Do you have any other anti-virus? Maybe it's conflicting with something.
Thanks guys I'll try play around with it tomorrow.

I doubt I'll use it much but sometimes it's nice to have extra security.

Is GIMP or any other free image editing software good with transparencies?

Back in like highschool I had some Photoshop CS3 student code or something
and specifically cutting away at an image so you just have the subject with a transparent
background is something I would do very, very frequently and CS3 did me well for this.

I tried Paint.Net but it felt pretty gross working on it for this purpose specifically.

Anyone knows any apps to schedule copy-pasting or backups to external HDD drives?

Im using Synkron right now but it fills up my C:/ Drive with garbage during each run, I just want something that straight up copy-pastes files between 2 drives without touching C:/

I use Bvckup beta to sync files to a Dropbox folder. I think it does scheduling too.

There is an updated paid-for & supported version also: https://www.bvckup2.com/

Are there any safe and easy programs for converting mpeg video to mp4 or other formats? I've finally gotten to converting VHS-C tapes to digital, but Windows Movie Maker apparently can't recognize mpeg properly, and just reads a half an hour video as a blank 7 second video.

I think Handbrake will work for that. Handbrake
Its a simple program.

f.lux

f.lux-7-Health.jpg

An absolute godsend. Between work and video games, I spend easily 12+ hours a day staring at a computer screen. My eyes used to hurt like hell by the end of the day, but f.lux really helped with that. Programs like CCleaner and KeePass are must-haves of course, but f.lux is that one program I can call a "game changer."

  • Windows and internet security:
ccleaner (Crap Cleaner)
Recover My Files
Avast Internet Security
System Mechanic

  • PIC Browsers and management:
ACdsee3 (fast and to the point image viewer)
Ulead Photo Explorer 8.5d (for advanced renaming and management of images)
Awesome Photo Finder (finds duplicate images)

  • PIC adjusting
FastStone Photo Resizer (Batch resizer and adjuster)
Photoshop

  • AUDIO Players:
Winamp (Program 2 Winamp 5092 Lite.exe) No bollocks build.

  • AUDIO Editing and management:
AVS Audio Converter (Drag MKV/MP4 video files straight into it and convert the audio - no long shit).
MP3DirectCut2 (cuts mp3 files)
Mp3tag Renamer2 (batch removes/adds tags)
MP3Gain (Adjust volume levels of MP3 files with no quality loss - no re-encoding!)
MP3 Trim Pro (removes silence at beginning and end of MP3 Files with no quality loss)

  • VIDEO EDITING:
Premiere Pro with AVS hack (allows avs files to be used for frameserving)
Avidemux (Drag MKV MP4 etc straight into it for lossless cutting/joining)

  • VIDEO CODEC:
ffdshow
Lagarith Lossless Codec (lossless codec when working in Premiere)
MediaInfo (drag a movie file into the prog to see framerate, bitrate and other info straight away, just works. Can integrate into shell so you can just right click on the video file for the info!)

  • VIDEO PLAYER:
VLC media player

  • Macro Progs:
EZ Macros - Fast. Good GUI when you get used to it. Use this when you need fast macros for basic things without having some resource hog big-budget macro program that's slow as fuck and don't want to bother writing scripts with AutoHotkey .

Macro Expert Enterprise - Macro prog for "smart" macros, like it automatically waits waiting for a program to load before continuing the macro. Other features like pixel reading and finding text before continuing a macro. Great when you want the macro to work. Nice user friendly GUI.

Xpadder - great for flash games.

----------------------------------

Autohotkey:

Use this for very Basic Macro and Hotkey functions. Dedicated "big budget" macro programs are more user friendly and have better GUI's.

However these autohotkey scripts are great:

Barnacle v0.991
http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Skrommel/#Barnacle

Add toolbars to your favorite programs.

Features:
- A programmable toolbar that fits inside any window!
- Change icons, tooltips, left-, right- and middleclick actions.
- The actions can be keypresses, menu selections, button clicking and window actions.
- To find out more, choose Help in the tray menu.

---

Ghoster - http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Skrommel/#ghoster
Dims all windows except the active one.
Great for watching Anime/Films.
Playing Windowed Games.

---

universaldarkroom - http://www.thewindowsclub.com/universal-darkroom-darkens-entire-computer-screen-active-window
Better for games than that lame ass borderless window thing.
Great as a more hardcore version of Ghoster since this can remove the borders too at per-pixel adjustment levels! So I can still see the scroll bar in VLC player.
Can manually move the window about unlike that borderless window prog.

---

HideTaskbar
Use this in conjunction with Universal Dark Room for games/watching.

Quick Search and Replace
Simple Shutdown Timer
Font Expert

PDF Password Remover v3.1 (to be bale to print)
Firefox with Noscript add-on
utorrent 1.8.2
dc++
Adobe Acrobat 7.03 Pro (old version with no shitness and bloatware, just works)
Virtual box - Windows emulator

---

Kleptomania - http://kleptomania.en.softonic.com/

Kleptomania lets you select text anywhere on the screen, including areas that you cannot highlight with your mouse, such as columns of data from a word processor or error messages from any Windows program.

Ever get an error and just want to copy and paste it so you can google it? Well use this. Ain't nobody got time to type out some long shit.

2xPlorer - http://zabkat.com/x2lite.htm
I use this instead of the default windows explorer.

Powerstrip - http://download.cnet.com/PowerStrip/3000-2193_4-14972.html

Display profile adjuster - darken and control gamma on your LCD screen so it's not too bright. This is the only program that I can say is a necessary for health reasons - your eyes and your screen.

Has Universal Hotkeys to adjust profiles so no need to go to taskbar and click on icons and select a profile just to adjust brightness/gamma. Ain't nobody got time for clicking shit in the taskbar.

Taskbar Tweaker 7tt

- Disable miniature pop-up windows when hovering over icons in taskbar in windows 7
- Manage Audio over taskbar - simply drag mouse over taskbar and move middle mouse up/down. Feels more natural than hotkeys or built-in dedicated keyboard media buttons.
