A set of > 2000 brakes might do a better job than a 1970's pair.

Let me tell you something though, when you go 'flying', 75% of the time, your gear isn't going to save you either. Just make sure you drive extremely defensively and don't ride some antiquated p.o.s.

Well of course this is also true. But I'd rather have my gear picked out before I get a new bike.

Apparently some new Hondas are coming with standard ABS, and they're even looking into airbags. Amazing what happens in a couple of years.

Anyway I think I've settled on leathers again, simply because they're safer, I think.

Prolly gonna go for this jacket (reflective piping is a good thing):

And thinking of these pants to go with it (might get a pair of Draggins with extra knee protection as well):

Unfortunately I have a very long inseam, so ladies pants usually never do the job. :S

Thanks to everyone who helped out!

Nice looking gear, hein gerike make some really quality equipment and are one of the best people for accepting returns if your not happy. I think its the vfr750 that comes with abs as standard and i think quite a few Bmw's do now as well. I read a few reveiws of abs systems on bikes a while back and the general feeling was that they took away allot of the feel of the brakes, probably be alright on a big bike like a goldwing though where you really need the stopping power.

What bike are you looking at getting?

AGV makes some nice helmets, even on their "low" side of the spectrum. I don't know the current going rates for Shoei helmets but I've never seen one below $400. You can get a nice AGV helmet for ~$250. Mine is one of the more expensive ones but the lower models are superb as well (My girlfriend opted for one that was half the price of mine and still ended up with a great helmet). I've heard good things of HJC and their prices are reasonable as well.

I don't know as much about the type of gear you're looking for, unfortunately. I've got a textile jacket and leather gloves (Both discontinued) that are very high quality. Most people typically believe Icon to be a squiddy brand but I can't fault the quality of the products I've bought so far (Aside from some minor fraying on the jacket but it is over two years old now).

http://www.newenough.com is where is usually go for apparel. If I need something specific that they don't have (They don't carry AGV helmets, for instance), I go to http://www.kneedraggers.com

My brother has an areostich jacket, very nice and plugs in to his bike for heat. Seems to be the jacket of choice for adventure riders. He had a BMW 1100GS but sold that for a KTM.

He keeps trying to get me to get an enduro bike but I am like no way man, I love the asphalt!

Get a supermoto, best of both worlds, had a KTM 640sm for three years now and love it!

I would as a 2nd bike, but I am trying to save for a ring and a house... I would have to sell my duc and I just can't. I want to keep that thing till I am old and give it to my son. :lol

Although....

is fucking sexy. I am a ducati fanboy sorry :P

So what type of bike are you looking at Dragon? I forgot you where a girl. Motorcycle chicks are so hot :D

I miss my bike ;(

Anywho, I wore a shoei helment and ...I've gone blank on what my jacket is...but its badass. I still have both, and no bike :lol ...bah a girl can dream right?

I want to know what bike your getting! Im 6ft, and my bike (Yamama FZR-600) was too small for me actually. Seeing as we both have a inseam problem lol, I'd like to know a better bike to get on my next go-round.

Good luck :)

I wouldn't know about hot, but it's a real pain to find gear for women overall. Mens stuff doesn't always fight "just right" and the women's are, well. Lacking.

As for a bike, I really don't know, but I'm a Triumph fangirl and this is my favourite bike of all time: the 1975 T160:

Outside of Triumph, I'm partial to Honda (and I like the looks of the Ducati). I don't need big power, and I'm not really into Sport bikes (they're only comfy to ride when you're going 150km/h or more!), but the nice touring style is always good.

Triumphs are awesome. One of my friends has a daytona that fucking screams. Have you seen the ducati sportclassics? :D

The only problem with ducati is that they are somewhat unreliable and their crazy italian engineering requires lots of maintenance. Oh and they cost too much. :lol

Hehe, well if you were going to pick any antiquated p.o.s., that's a pretty awesome bike.

I've got a ducati M620i myself, only 160/70 kgs. Very light handles and sounds great.

Oh yeah, gear for females definitely is lacking. I Remember going with my mom to get gear for her and she had trouble finding anything very good. :( I'm not sure yet what gear I'll be getting though. Will definitely save up for some nice gear.

It's like they design it for the WIVES of motorcyclists, who dick around a little bit on the back of the bike. All fashion and no function. Really stupid. :P

Have you thought about a Royal Enfield?

you might be able to find an old model.

other than that, do you like the new honda or triumph cruiser styles? i wouldn't get anything less than 750cc. learning to ride one for the first time on a 250cc is good, but i can handle 750cc+ better and it gives you more/safer power on the highway.

I'm actually looking for a new commuter bike. I've narrowed it down to these:

Brutale_RHS_1024.jpg

I know the brutale is very expensive, but every time I sit on one I swear I can hear it calling my name.

CB350 is a sweet bike man, my friend recently restored a cb450 "black bomber". He's a hell of a wrencher.

I'd recommend you that but saddly you don't want racing style:

Yamaha YZF R1
If you're looking for confort ride the best way is a scooter.

Honda SH300
