"Questionable build quality"

I got a Nexus 5 in early November, but the Moto G would have been my new phone if the latest news at the time wasn't a 2014 release date in the US.

Just about every other reviewer seems to think the quality is excellent and comparable to some high-end devices -- definitely in a class of its own for a $170 phone. Obviously doesn't compare to the very best $600-$700 phones, but how does that mean "questionable build quality?"

Why is everyone up in arms over The Verge review? Everyone knows that their reviews suck, so why would it matter?

They're a major site with lots of traffic, so it's not easy to ignore. Their reviews of notable Android phones also tend to be unusually negative compared to everyone else. See below an aggregate of reviews for the G; they're not only the lowest by score, but reading it also comes across as if the phone is a lot worse than anyone else thinks.

i am abit grumpy ... seems Amazon will not deliver before christmas. Ugh i ahd so hoped for the 12.12 as the release of the bigger version. My old Defy is maddening slow, and i am to lazy to go through the new setup of CM 11 and Kitkat 4.4.

It's 6 days after estimated delivery, but my 8GB from Amazon UK finally arrived! It's all charged up, I got old phone data backed up, now going to visit the shop to get proper size SIM now so I can do the switch.

got a Moto G two weeks ago to replace my Galaxy S2

fucking awesome phone for the price. Easily getting 3 to 4 days out of the battery compared to maximum of 30 hours for the S2 (I don't use my phone that much obviously)

Camera is the only aspect that isn't up to par with higher end phones

Got mine from Amazon Germany, I also have a flip cover ordered there but no clue when they get those in stock

I just used a pair of scissors to cut my card (plenty of pdf templates online)

Bastards!

As you may have heard, large parts of the United States were hit by winter storm Dion, including our fulfillment center in Fort Worth, Texas. Our operations are still recovering from the storm’s impact while also trying to keep up with the incredible demand for Moto G.

For these reasons, your phone order wasn’t shipped when we originally estimated. We sincerely apologize for the delay and want you to know that your Moto G will ship by December 17th via a free upgrade to overnight delivery.

Their Nexus 5 and Moto G reviews are just silly. They seem incapable of fully understanding what these prices mean for the phones. I doubt anybody will care what they have to say in another year or two when you can get Ars or better yet Anandtech reviews.

This is true. I guess it's hard to comprehend when you're getting shit loads of free phones. I was wrapped, I sold my iPhone 4 for the same amount as it cost to import one of these from the UK. Huge performance difference, I don't see this phone ever feeling "slow" like my iPhone 4 got. Really I could use it forever.

Ordered a Moto G off Moto's website since Amazon's saying it won't ship for 4-6 weeks(?!) Other than not using Google Wallet for one more step of convenience, it's a pretty great process. I actually really love Moto's site. Nice and clean.

I pre-ordered on Amazon a week ago, and they said it will be delivered on the 19th.

Welcome to the Moto family! Is this your first Android phone? ;-)

It's for my sister actually, gonna replace her iPhone with it. But it is there first Moto I've bought. :)

Got mine a week ago (France

Actually impressed by the device, and I'm so glad I almost don't have to use my LG L5-II anymore.

Still trying to figure if I should change the stock launcher or stick with the current one.

Still waiting on my day one preorder :\ Im not sure whats going on with Motorola. People that that ordered later apparently have gotten theirs. Its a little frustrating but Im sure the wait will be worth it!

I ordered the phone but i have an old sim, what type of sim does the Moto G use? I will like to get in touch with Vodafone to send me a new sim before my phone arrives.

I didnt know this had an OT, i love this phone!

got the 16gb for 120 quid from tesco via HUKD, used a code for 10 quid off then bought a 2 pound code off eBay to unlock it, worked perfectly, my talkmobile sim works fine

I switched from a 16GB phone, and was a bit worried about the 8GB storage, but looks like it's OK for the time being. No photos/videos taken yet, but I have 3.5GB free to buffer them. In the long run, this will go to relatives who will be perfectly fine with 8GB. One reason why I won't run out of space for anything is that the G comes with 2 years of free 50GB Google storage. (I already had 50GB of free Dropbox thanks to my previous phone, lol. If these offers with phones keep up, people will never pay out of pocket for mid-size network storage.)

  • Previously, I used Sugarsync to push music from my desktop to phone's storage. Switched to using Google Play Music for now, can stream the stuff from Google instead of using local storage. I pegged a couple of albums just in case of bad connectivity. Fun fact: none of the (Kpop and videogame) music I uploaded to Play would have been for sale there.
  • I used to have Sugarsync upload photos/videos from phone to my own computer, but I have now switched to upload photos to G+ which works a bit smoother. Everything is uploaded in full resolution, and it's also easy to download everything to my own computer later if I want. My only complaint is the absence of an automated constant backup. No need to keep the pics on the phone.
  • Not interested in using the phone for watching movies/series. Occasional Youtube video at most. I have a couple of games installed, maybe 0.5GB total.

I also finally got mine. Definitely worth the wait! The screen is fantastic coming from a lower end phone from last year and its so snappy. I thought I was gonna stick with black but I think I'm gonna buy a cover to add some color to it.

Amazon UK doesn't even know when mine is going to be shipped. Seems they are out of stock. I'm secretly hoping to receive it before 25 Dec.

got it today and spent 4 hours downloading everything that was on my Nexus 4 (which was stolen recently)

It's a bit smaller and a bit slower and not as nicely built but its still a great phone for $200. I just wish there was a 32gb version.

This is waaaaay better than the Alcatel Fierce which cost $150 and slow, unresponsive, and was running a weird version of 4.1 with no updates pending.

ffs. Amazon DE has not even a date for shipping. just hoping i will actually receive et before february, when i am leaving for ireland... crap

Ordered mine from Amazon UK, and its says The following item will arrive after 25 Dec 2013.

I don't even think i will be getting it from them this year which really sucks

Talking about Tesco, they're selling the 8Gb flavour for £99.99 on pay as you go.

Considering how much phone you get, that price is amazing.

This and the Nexus 5 are the best phones you could buy in the mid-range or high end category this year. Their pricing is insane!!

Bought a 16GB Moto G for my grandma. Hope she likes it.
