They do go faster actually. How else could my rally car (faster vehicle in game) be overtaken by a frigging truck despite being at max speed on an ideal surface? Cos that's what happens in some of MS1 races.

Indeed. Even when running a perfect race, with no crashes, and you run other vehicles off the road, they always catch up regardless. Either their speed changes, or their placement after crashing, or they just flash forward somehow, nobody knows.

He just came from a boost? He took a better line or made less turns then you? Could be anything, but sorry, they don't go faster. I've managed to stay ahead of the pack several times for the entire race in the final tickets. Btw rally car is the fastest car but has the weakest boost, I don't see any problems with it being overtaken by a truck.

Tried to play MS yesterday - took the game out of my PS3 in disgust. If they even want me near the sequel, fix the fucking moon physics!!! X_X Gone from a maybe to a probably not for me. Will wait for reviews... any mention of wonky physics = no sale.

Anyone else geting serious quitting crashes with this demo? My PS3 even had to rebuild the data structure because of it. I'm too scared to boot it up now.
Nope, never experienced any crashes while quitting the demo.

Demo is awesome. The graphics look pretty good, not great, but I'm glad to hear that it is an old build. The first Motorstorm actually looks a lot better than this demo.

Split-screen is awesome and the gameplay is great. It's a quite difficult game though.

But I've had much fun and will definitely buy.

I respectfully disagree with everyone saying this. I played the Pacific Rift demo back-to-back with the original Motorstorm demo to make sure. There is nothing in the first demo that looks better except perhaps more plants on the track (though they're single flat texture sprites, which isn't so impressive). In every other aspect, Pacific Rift is at least as good, sometimes better--and that's without the updated graphics chubigans has noted.

It's definitely the case that PR isn't as superior next to current games as Motorstorm was next to its peers. But I think if you go back and play the first demo you'll find that it doesn't look that special anymore. (The full game did look better and more varied, but since all we have to judge PR on is a single level, I don't think that's an apposite comparison.)

They've definitely added more realistic weight to the handling and collisions (going by the demo). I don't know if the tweaks are enough to convert someone who "took the game out of their PS3 in disgust". ;) But as someone who loved the first game in spite of some of the goofier physics, PR has exactly the arcade/sim balance I was hoping for. Also the DS3 programming is pretty terrific this time (instead of tacked on), you get every bump and really get a good sense of the tires gripping and slipping on the terrain.

Man, its a good time to be a racing nut. Between GT Prologue update, GTR Evolution, Race Pro on the sim side and MS2, Wipeout HD, Pure and Baja on the arcade side its genre nirvana this fall.

Hating the arcade racing genre. Nice.

Didn't think the demo was up to much on first play. But it's clicking the more I play it.

The track on show is pretty bland, but the trailers show tracks which seem a lot better so I'm not too worried.

so when will this demo be available on PSN?

gamestop "ran out" of codes when i pre-ordered last week

I presume two weeks before launch, some time during mid-October. Hopefully, it'll be newer code.

Liked the demo, loved MS1 and have already pre-ordered.

My two cents though having looked at those screens Cesar posted... Every track should be at least partly muddy. The visceral feel I get from that alone is far beyond every other technique they could use.

I know it's early, but...

Has anyone claimed author rights over the making of the Official Thread? If not, I'd love to do it. :D

Do it mate.

Nobody has claimed it yet as far as I know.

Hype seems to be low even though game rocks and improves everything from the first.

Hype it up!

I will do it, then. :D

Make it Dirty and muddy! :)

The 1UP Yours Impressions are pretty glowing. Good stuff, they are talking about how far ahead of the Qore version the review copy visuals are.

Totally. The 4 player co-op addition while managing to improve on the first means nothing right?

You're right, sacrificing single player graphics for local multiplayer actually means nothing to me. Hey whatever, you people keep pretending it's a massive improvement over the first one! YEAR OF THE PS3 AW YEAH BABY and all that. These tardbuckets didn't even bother changing anything about the shitty damage model the first game had. Burnout's shits on MS2's car "damage" from beyond the stratosphere.

New to MotorStorm screens, aren't you?

not at all. i was always trumpeting how good ms1 looked. screens and videos. some of those look....really really meh. the very first screens shown of the game looks A LOT better than these.

i tink you proved my point. but whatever, im still buying it. just saying these look like shit
They look on par with the MS1 shots. That game never looked too great in stills but it's stunning in motion. MS2 won't be any different.

Wait, this game has 4 player split screen? Am I seeing this right? Awesome!

(I think it looks good btw. Not earth-shattering, but "like shit"? Come on.)

Wow you did not know that? :p
No, I wasn't following it since I wasn't interested. But my interest level just went from 0 to day 1, probably. I really want a next-gen arcade racer with 4-way split screen.

MotorStorm Monday: The Inspiration for Pacific Rift
So while that may not have been exactly how it happened, and skipping forward numerous months of diligent coding, designing and modeling, we now find ourselves nearing the date when our latest MotorStorm baby will be flung into the big, wide world. As M-day approaches, what exactly are we doing? Well, for the past few months we’ve been polishing it as hard as we can. And, like most videogame developers, we’re mainly men. So we can polish pretty hard.
