with regular headphones the PS5's 3D audio sounds terrible to me and ive tried every setting for it just sounds muffled, or out of pitch...just not right, like its obviously processed, and just turning it off sounds so much better...dolby atmos on the xbox sounds great though.
DTS is even better

You have your trolling and baited takes like the rest of us, don't play. You don't like the thread, ignore it, instead of semantics.

I guess a more relevant topic would be do users that pay for Atmos for headphones find it to be superior to Windows Sonic in games that support Atmos.

100% yes. CoD MW is awesome in Atmos.

I wish/hope more games support it.

Good for watching movies at night as well when I can't use my surround sound.

Not really. Only a moron would purchase an enterprise server OS license and then complain when they're charged core licensing for virtualization.
*Cough* It's more of a comment on how the costs of development and business infrastructure is going to go up, and that could be passed along to the consumer

Shall you swing for a strike out with the assumptions or just ask next time?

Could someone show me how to change the EQ on my PS5 Pulse 3D headset? Or how to use Atmos paid or not.... Ok fine how about DTS:X? No? Get out of here with your fake concerns.

Xbox gives you options. Yes, you have to pay to use 3rd party, optional, formats. You can use their built in option that is similar to Sony's option but at least it has an EQ for you to adjust.

This thread is a joke. PayStation fans that are happy to pay $70 a game are concerned with a one time $15 fee. Weird flex but ok.

Do they offer any kind of trial on the base X1 VCR (too lazy to look)? I might have to test it to see what I think.

You sound like you don’t have a clue tbh, 7.1 isn’t shit. Maybe all the cinemas around the world should upgrade to headphones for everybody to then lol

Well if you start talking about 3D audio let me know. 7.1 is just 7 channels horizontal, rarely any verticality and pretty limited. This thread is about a headset not fucking Cinema or home theatres so 7.1 vs 3D is shit.

A 7.1 setup
Is better than any headphones simple

Cerny also got it wrong saying at Atmos only supports 32 objects and tempest supports hundreds. Atmos supports hundreds to, full separate speakers is far better than headphones any day. The thread is also about Atmos which PS5 isn’t doing

Well autocorrect changed it 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

still Cerny still spread fud that Atmos couldn’t do hundreds of objects when it can, but if you read all the Sony fans only tempest can do that.
Maybe their toolset was capped at the time of R&D, since nobody knew otherwise until Dolby mentioned its capabilities 🤷‍♀️

It's an ever growing toolset after all.

see now you know your talking rubbish, Cerny spreading rubbish to .

like I said you will never better a full speaker set up with a set of headphones, and certainly not ones priced around £100.

I get not everybody has the budget for that kinda setup and that’s why the headphones are a good option to have

Why am I talking rubbish? I am just suggesting a possibility of why he said that. At the time Atmos was being used, most systems were only running 32 channels/objects and not capable of more.

I'm not even in your speaker dick measuring argument, but rather commenting on your "Corny" distraction. Keep flexing on it, anything you throw money at can be better. Not a revolutionary statement, just common sense.

have you read up on Atmos? Have you ready why Cernys comment was wrong?

just curious with you comment of at the time systems could only run 32 objects. Info to back that up?

no just curious to where you got that is could only support the 32 objects to read up on it. Simple
From these which were several years old, hence my "working with old info from when they started their R&D at the time," possibly. I don't believe there were any malicious intent of easily verifiable info by Cerny.

Timeframes add up from when one would start the R&D into Tempest, that the only hardware for Atmos at the time was 32.

That’s 32 speakers not objects, that’s totally different. When you look at the diagrams it even shows you the speaker placement.

also it’s dated 2014 which as you pointed out tech moves on.

did you even read the article you posted 🙈🙈

Simply don’t buy the license, Xbox has a free alternative after all. I get the principle though, why doesn’t Xbox take on the cost? They probably could have, but why? From a business point of view when you have your own solution, it doesn’t make that much sense to spend more and potentially raise the price of something else, to eat the costs.

Why not implement it fully in the first place? see?

They have their own solution, it’s there for those that want it though.

Dolby Atmos Corrected Mark Cerny's Stats Related to PS5 Presentation | SegmentNext
This may not be a jab from Sony towards Microsoft but a mere confusion in the information that was handed to Cerny. The number 32 could also indicate the number of speaker count support. It is true however that Dolby Atmos is capable of supporting hundreds of audio objects.
I bet it's that neutral speculation from that site, rather than fanboy wars of forums of "Cerny lied to deceive us all, muhahahaha"
Just like I don't believe he was taking a jab at MS (like some Sony fanatics want to laugh about) when he was talking about TF metric, but rather speaking generally RDNA2 advancements over last gen TF efficiency (as well as other customizations) since even AMD has repeated the same verbiage for their GPUs in conferences after about "TFs not telling the whole tale."

Cerny don't give a shit about "fanboy wars." I don't think I ever heard him even stress about it like others do in the industry.

Is it true Dolby Atmos is capped at 32 objects?

No, that is incorrect. As a technology, Dolby Atmos can support hundreds of simultaneous objects.

That is Dolby’s response to what Cerny said, again I didn’t say it was malicious but he spread Fud but surely he should of known better to research that.

as I said in a previous post it’s good we have the options of the headphones as not everybody has the budget or space for a good Atmos setup.

Dolby Atmos technology allows up to 128 audio tracks plus associated spatial audio description metadata (most notably, location or pan automation data) to be distributed to theaters for optimal, dynamic rendering to loudspeakers based on the theater capabilities. Each audio track can be assigned to an audio channel, the conventional format for distribution, or to an audio "object." Dolby Atmos in theaters has a 10-channel 9.1 bed for ambience stems or center dialogue, leaving 118 tracks for objects.[7] Atmos for home in films has only 1 bed channel in LFE and usually 11 dynamic objects. In Atmos games ISF (Intermediate Spatial format) is used, that supports 32 total active objects (for 7.1.4 bed 20 additional dynamic objects can be active[8]).

Dolby damage control:

Is it true Dolby Atmos is capped at 32 objects?

No, that is incorrect. As a technology, Dolby Atmos can support hundreds of simultaneous objects.

That being said, we fall back on sage advice from developers of some of the first Atmos games: objects are a fantastic tool, but restraint should be shown with respect to the number of objects active at any time. Too many objects in motion can create a confusing soundscape.

Developers have also told us that avoiding the horizontal "bed" for an all-object mix is an unnecessarily time-consuming and labor-intensive effort. So far, developers are creating next-generation mixes by blending bed audio and object audio. More is good, but more may not necessarily be "better."

Tempest can do 5,000+ sources, but hundreds of raytraced, accurate sources with convolution reverb calculations. It's a night and day difference.

Dolby Atmos is like Paint and The Tempest is Photoshop.

He's not your typical gaffer ;)

More into it:

"If we were to use the same algorithms as PSVR, that's enough for something like five thousand sound sources - but of course we want to use more complex algorithms, and we don't need anything like that number of sounds." - Mark Cerny

"The first goal was to create audio for everyone, not just VR users or sound bar owners or headphone users. That meant audio had to be part of the console, it couldn't be a peripheral,” explained Cerny. “The second goal was to support hundreds of sound sources. We didn't want developers to have to pick and choose which sounds would get 3D effects and which wouldn't. We wanted every sound in the game to have dimensionality."

Also let's not forget that The Tempest is a freaking GPU-based, SPU-like HW that clocks in parallel with the main GPU, not just software.

Are you even reading what you are copy and pasting?

tempest audio designed for stereo speakers for headphones and tv speakers , your saying that is better than full Atmos setup of speakers that are FULLY surrounding you? Lol

Dolby damage control lol again read what he actually says, restraint should be used as it can create a confusing sound space. Do you know what that means?

Here’s a link about sound mixing so you can see

I’m as usual you are copy and pasting without actually reading the scourge material and seems like you don’t have the knowledge to understand what it is saying.

As usual because your God Cerny has said something you believe that over a company who have produced the best most used sound tech in the world

so your saying 2 speakers are better than 8 for 3D sound lol

again read what it says, there is no 32, number Atmos can handle hundreds of objects. I get you don’t understand it because to defend it you shared a link to an amplifier that had 32 speaker output 🙈🙈 😂😂

now think about what you shared to defend what he said, a 32 speaker setup, you saying that each of those speakers could only handle 1 sound object at a time 😂😂

also in the article you shared it says Cerny may of got confused by the speaker count also, so you really think that is the case? He thought 32 speakers as objects? If that were true then surely he would of thought tempest moves 2 objects because it uses 2 speakers lol he basically PR’d talked up the tempest engine and put out misinformation on ATMOS
