Has there ever been a good one? I don't mean reboots, but part of the original franchise.

For example:

Robocop 3
Home Alone 3
The Next Karate Kid
Batman Forever
Son of the Mask
Dumb and Dumberer

These weren't just bad sequels, they were astonishingly awful movies. Obviously they were trying to cash in on the name, and I expect a few succeeded at that, but it's like they didn't even try.

Has there ever ever been a good movie that didn't/couldn't bring back the original star? I'm struggling to think of one.

Home Alone 3 was bad, but at least the new cast was playing a new set of characters. 4 is much worse IMO, since difference actors are playing characters from 1 and 2.

I guess you could count SIlence of the Lambs replacing Brian Cox from Manhunter with Anthony Hopkins. I believe Cox had signed up for a play so couldn't do it.

I'm not sure I really count that one, that wasn't even the same studio that made the two films, let alone anything else.

I actually remember liking Final Destination 3 quite a bit, thought the rollarcoaster scene did look real cool, if really unbelievable how much goes wrong lol.

Although maybe my appreciation for that movie has something to do with my huge crush on Mary Elizabeth Winstead XD

Kickboxer 2

The funny thing is I grew up loving Kickboxer 2 more than the JCVD original (comes from seeing KB2 first.... didn't see the original until 2-3 years after that). I still love KB 2 today!!

In addition to them remaking the first movie with JCVD in the "Xien" role, they are actually making an unofficial sequel to the Sasha Mitchell Kickboxer sequels (2-4). Only they've had to take some liberties with the character due to no longer owning the rights to it (going from David Slone to David Anderson).

I'd count it, especially since Hannibal is much more of a sequel to Silence than Silence is to Manhunter.
But it's still not what OP is asking for, because Hannibal is vastly inferior.
