Moving out of Florida-age

I hope your savings are significantly larger than you originally stated several months ago.
It's getting there. Money shouldn't be a problem.

You only live once, right? I need to make the most of my life and do something that I enjoy for a living. This is it.

The road trip, I want to do it before the gas runs out. Take a week out and see America.

Saw this bumped on my subscriptions and was about to reread the entire thread until I saw the Walgreen's at the top of the list. The rest is uh.. well.. yeah man good luck.

Yeah. It looks like something already did happen because the op has gone batshit insane.

But he's already in Florida. ;)

If he's young and doesn't have much in the way of worldly possessions there's nothing to lose.

I had a friend who travelled to Japan to work at Starbucks, he was supposed to be transfered there. He arrived and ended up jobless and homeless for a time, but befriended some locals and ended up with a roof over his head for a few months.

I believe he stayed there for a year, and then came back to the States.

He stuck around here for a year or two, and then sold / gave away most of his stuff and bounced over to Los Angeles where he's currently, last time I checked, living a nice life. I mean, he rubs elbows with Coop and made designer toys for chrissakes! That's pretty fuckin' awesome.

So if you have little to lose, go for broke man.

I'm not there yet. I'm just going to follow my dreams.

It's better to have a job before moving, and I might as well transfer because it seems to me to be the best possible option amongst what I have. Getting an interview as-is is going to take a while. Factor in the out-of-state thing, and it's like climbing Mount Everest- possible, but much much harder. Companies may say that they're willing to relocate, but don't you think that they want to hire locally and spare the expense?

There's a method to my madness. My job may not pay much, but my co-workers are awesome and are like a second family to me. If anyone can help me relocate, then my coworkers are just those people.

By this time next year, I'll be in Redwood City, working for Electronic Arts, climbing up the corporate ladder.

One more thread bump.

I talked this over with my mom, and she seriously wants me to go to Atlanta. As luck would have it, we plan on being in the area next week for a Dave Matthews Band concert, so we plan on taking a swing by Atlanta to get a feel for the town and see what's up.

I know Porsche Cars NA is moving to a new building near the airport...

I'm in Gainesville, moving out to San Fran next month. LETS GO

I think you need a few more something happens in your master plan.

I don't think you are going anywhere. Enjoy the weather in Florida, I'm jealous.

Whoa @ the update.

Uhm, its good to have dreams, dude, but.......

Even if you somehow land a job in the mailroom or something at EA, there is absolutely no fucking chance you will get the opportunity to ever be in a position to finish the rest of your plan until you get the relevant education to afford you the chance to get the experience to put you into position to do the rest of your list.

I don't mean to be dismissive of you, but......

you work at Walgreens. You have no marketable skills, except maybe "hard worker"

(im assuming) you have no education beyond high school.

This kind of shit happens in the movies. You know why we go to movies? To get away from real life. Your plan needs some re-thinking.

Also - it sounds like you change your mind a lot.

If you really want out of florida - here's what you do.

Go to school - community college, something. Get a degree that will actually help you achieve your dream, whatever it may be.

Then work on finding employment that will take you to wherever you want to go.

He may have a college degree--there are millions of mid-twenty something college grads out there working minimum wage jobs. Either way, I think the OP has very little to no experience trying to crack into any labor market besides the low-skill one and is probably in for an unpleasant surprise, degree or not. Unless you've got an in-demand degree, you've got to bite and claw your way into a salaried position.

I love it when this thread gets bumped because the shit op writes is hilarious. Stop making this thread less fun with all of your "realistic" and "common sense" posts, guys.

So your mom, who you fight with and is FORCING you to move, now just wants you to be closer? No offence, but your Mom sounds like she has some issues.

Move to California - but not to chase your dream, since that is a hilariously bad and not-thought-out plan (lol @ #6 and #8). I hope you have an education...if you don't - plastic over paper, please.

I never said it was a good plan.

As for the change of direction, that's because cooler wads prevailed and I was able to talk it over without the strong emotions.

That, and I'll be in the Atlanta area over the next few days for a Dave Matthews Band concert, so I'll get a feel for the area. I'm already scoping the area out to get a feel for it. I'll see how it goes.

Probably moving out of FL in November. Most likely Charlottle, NC. I moved into another apartment here in FL, but that's because we literally only had a week to find a new place, so flying to NC and frentically searching for a place was out of the option.
