Mr. Plinkett Talks About Rogue One

Amazed that people avoid awful gimmicks? I bet that more people have exited that disaster within the first 5 seconds of the videos playing then those that stuck around because they were already invested.

Hell, if the humor bits/"gimmicks" annoy you so much, just read a script of his videos. They are pretty good film analyses and that was what originally won me over. My taste for this humor came afterward.

There's nothing wrong with fanservice. The problem is when a movie has nothing but fanservice to offer.

Vader slaughtering the Rebels was fun. Therefore, it was a worthwhile inclusion.

It's really fucked up that after an hour and a half of gritty war drama, the part everyone liked was when the bad guy we remember showed up and murdered all the heroes.

Fuck yeah Darth Vader, go murder those cannon fodder Rebels.

It's a shame that the most talked about scene does not have the main characters in it. If anything is remembered about this movie, it will be the Vader sequence. Everything else is forgettable.

Yep. The most memorable scene of the movie is Darth Vader murdering a bunch of nameless rebels. While the movie's "heroes" are being killed by random storm troopers and a giant explosion.

Honestly, I enjoyed Rogue One well enough, but RLM is right. It's just a dumb action movie with some ineffective drama and a ton of fan service.

I don't think so. Their Plinkett TFA review was still largely positive.

It was positive about TFA, but it wasn't really a TFA review. There's a reason it's called the Star Wars Awakens video, it's more a commentary on this absolutely bizarre fad of competitive-reacting-to-things and exaggerating interest for viral reaction videos, obsession with 'hype', Disney's handling of Star Wars, the desperate attempt by some people to elevate the prequels to something other than complete shite and generally their opinion on where Star Wars is heading at the moment.

The problem is that the characters in R1 aren't anything. They're bland.

I swear people who are complaining about this movie must've seen a different movie from me. Space IP Man was cool, K2 is my new favorite droid, and my brother Diego Luna (AKA the first Mexican in space) is my personal hero.

There's a difference between characters who are "cool" and those that are "interesting". Rogue One has plenty of cool characters, but hardly any interesting ones (like, Forest Whitaker and that's it).

I found the character of Cassian Andor infinitely more interesting and complicated than any of the characters in Force Awakens I thought he stood out well on his own merits and really enjoyed his character.

Is this serious? What. TFA has two complex Solos, a cowardly Storm Trooper, and a female force user with a mysterious past.

RO has a bunch of wet sandbags.

I had to look up who that was, because I honestly can't remember anyone's character name in this, but I agree; it was nice seeing a different, grayer side of the rebellion through him. That forced romance angle at the end was pretty weird, though.

i legit don't remember a single thing he did in the movie besides shoot that guy with the intel on the death star

that was cool

Morally grey dude is turned around to decent dude by the end of the film cause of the power of the boner, or something. He had no arc or plot, he was just there to fly people around.

If you're looking for a war movie with morally grey characters who are actually interesting and entertaining to watch, see Fury.

If you want to see a bunch of no names and 2 wet sandbags recreate the opening crawl of A New Hope, see Rogue One.

RLM has been on point with their critique of how the "critics" are "reviewing" Rogue One. A bunch of fanboys who would much rather see cool, badass action using Star Wars than a story and characters that are actually interesting.

Mike did say it best when rogue one is "the greatest fanfilm" ever made and I guess that's all it takes for a SW fan?

Heck maybe rich was on to certain with the universe being small to work with as the only type of fanfilms you do see are only about the lightsaber

This, there was a Darth Maul fan film a little bit ago that was just cool lightsaber fights and it got a ton of raving comments.

You would think based on the Prequels that Star Wars fans would know that pretty saber battles don't make a good movie.

A cowardly stormtrooper? Good gravy, alert the presses!
Who's braver than he gives himself credit for seeing as how he left the Order. And in the end, he finds his courage by standing up to the scariest dude he knows. Oh, and he's actually entertaining to watch on screen which is more than I can say for any protagonist in Rogue One.

Yeah, well...what do you know?

I respect your opinion and I'm glad you enjoyed the film.

Guys, just get over the fact that the characters in TFA were awful. It's OK to admit it. None of them had a shred of depth, none of them acted in any way that is remotely like a human being would actually act, and the most 'complex' one sat around moping in his room talking to a helmet about emo shit. They were well cast, and that's about it. They spoke like Joss Whedon characters, so they were also quippy I guess?

Every single one of the main group in Rogue One is AT LEAST as deep as the characters in TFA. And while that doesn't say a whole heck of a lot (see the above paragraph) they actually acted like one would expect them to act given the situations they are in, and their backgrounds.
