[MS-Conf] Tomb Raider Gameplay Demo

As a fan of TR from the PSOne games, this looks interesting. Reminds me of TR: Legends, but much nicer looking.

Don't mind if it's linear or not, as the game is a prequel. I don't expect Laura to be exploring as much as possible on her first adventure, I would expect her to be gritty and fighting for her life. Casually exploring in later games, after she knows how to defend herself, would make sense.

It's a reboot, not a prequel.

OMG it's like an Uncharted game starring Chloe Frazer! Will buy on PC.

Also boohoo on time exclusive DLC content.

Is the Gametrailers stream laggy for anyone else? Like really spiky and twitchy? Everything else seems to work fine for me.

all the shooting was obviously there for impact, they're showing a bit of exploration on gt and it looks amazing

Extremely linear and scripted so far. Hoping for some more exploration footage because right now it just looks like Uncharted but with a bow.

this is definitely not an open/sand boxy-ish level, it's small/narrow as fuck.

now I doubt there is any huge puzzle solving or huge exploration in this game at all.

Lara's looks amazing.
Still hate that xbox is gonna get exclusive dlc.
I feel this game is gonna have a bullshit ending, with the dlc being the real ending.

Haters silenced like barnyard puppies.

How was anyone silenced? As the guy was talking about how open it was, she was running through a tight "corridor" that had natural rock walls placed on both sides. She had about 5 feet of moving space from side to side.

tired of the uncharted formula, don't need another one with Lara Croft. Will pass on this until it goes on sale for less than 20 bucks (and that's if they show at least some exploration gameplay later on)

I'm assuming the whole game is not like the stage demo and more game play is present. It was done because it looks "cool" when demoing the game. I actually like the it's the origins of Lara and she is not a master at everything but rather a novice. Screaming aside it looks good.

Yeah they said in some preview piece that the opening plane part is less open that the overall game IIRC.

Really starting to remind me of MGS3 because of stuff like hub worlds and all that. Challenge tombs sound interesting. Could they be like Guardian of Light's challenge roooms?

I'd still like to see some more open/sandbox levels (wasn't there a short clip/screenshots sometime last year after E3 that kind of had that?)

All the stuff they've shown looks pretty linear (though very pretty.)

I'm still interested, though it's probably not a Day 1 title.

Looked good in new demo, that draw distance though, fog fog fog, yes this is open world but even Arkham City has better, released last year.

Edit: talking about GT demo

i'm presuming he is saying the haters are 'silenced' because he is defining 'haters' as anyone who really thought it wouldn't be Uncharted reskinned?

Why? Who are they trying to fool? If that's what they show for their demo, then why shouldn't they make the game more action oriented since that's what they want to show?

look at the Assassins Creed demo for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imo6wJuekog

Because the show is for the general media, not just for gaming enthusiasts. They need to make an impact and they only have 5 minutes to do so. You can't represent the scope of an entire game like TR in 5 minutes, why not just showcase parts that will command attention?

We all know there will be more to the game than that.

Seriously.

This looks like a major improvement for the series over the past decade. People should expect them to show an action-oriented demo for their 5 minute stage demo.
That's what I still hope it was and the game will be a true Tomb Raider experience. But as of now all they show contains way too much cutscences, QTEs, scripted events, stealth, cover system and violence. At least everytime they talk about the game they mention how important exploration is and that the hub structure will make it better. We will see.

The exclusive DLC a year before release really ruined my anticipation of this game.

Fuck this generation and fuck the big budget gaming industry.

Third Person Shooters are just starting to feel stale as fuck now. Max Payne 3 was the hotness, but then gameplay demonstrations of this and Splinter Cell looked like absolute boring shit.

It's not like the Tomb Raider hasn't had action sequences since Crystal Dynamics took over. Legend had quite a bit of linearity and exploration together. Underworld had the tanker sections and if you based the game off that sequence, you would have thought it was an action game. Holding off judgement until I see what type of exploration, puzzle, and platforming will included. The end of the demo gave a preview of the open world.
