MS Has No Answer For Their Broken XBOX Live DRM!

:( How can people have such mixed results? http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/sy...postrepair.htm Try that to see if doing it how microsoft says corrects anything if you could. I would appreciate it.
The link isn't working. But to me they said that the problem would be fixed if I deleted the gamer tag and the games, and then recovered the gamer tag and downloaded the games again. But that has never worked for me, and I just tried and it's not working right now either, I tried deleting Zuma just now and then downloaded the full version again, but it's still a trial version. :(

Just a thought, regarding the mixed results, could it be a regional problem? Maybe they've sorted it out for people in the US but not in for people in Europe? (Me, Sweden)

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/account/postrepair.htm Bah, my mistake I copied it wrong. The link said something about going into your download history to fix it. Might be worth a shot.

What's so strange about this is that so many people ever even notice this. I'm on a second 360 now, but it's logged in every time I turn it on. You would never have this problem if you just keep your 360 logged in.

Why are you all going through this when you could buy a 20 dollar router and never think about it again?

Many reasons...

My ISP can and will go down.

Live can and will go down.

If I am travelling...sometimes I like to bring along the 360. No internet...no content.

Multiple users on one 360. Only the profile that purchased the content can play the content...this is not the case if your box hasn't been refurbed. Loss of of functionality due to their defect is shitty to the nth degree.

It doesn't have to be like this. MS's competitors seem to have a better handle on DRM, i.e. they are fair.

I repalced my Pro with an Elite late last year and 3 0f my games won't work, evenw hen I am online. They told me since I replaced my console there was nothing they can do about it, so now I refuse to buy anything else from the marketplace. It's a shame too because I really want Ikaruga and Rez, but fuck Microsoft.

Ok. After reading the following response, it's clear that:

a) If you went through MS, there is a solution, and it's going to work (other than it being painful to redownload everything in your download history.) I'll get to test this theory out once my 360 comes back in.

b) However, if you were impatient and ran out to get a replacement, or had a BB/Target/GS replacement plan, you may be SOL unless you bitch at MS, and even then they may not have a solution to transfer it.

Uhm, I went through MS, and it's still not working.

I am with you. I had to replace my x-box 360 last novemember, and I had an in store warranty. Microsoft said that I would get my games back. I even faxed the receipt to them. I have yet to get it fixed. I have called and written to microsoft, and I am pissed. I will only buy the games off of PSN. I still like the X-box 360, but this has soured me toward digital distrubution. When hard disks( games sold in stores) stop coming out for consoles, that is when I leave gaming, and I have been playing games since the Atari 2600.

if u replce the box the best thing to do is used ur new drive and recover and redownload there, and u won't have problems at leat i didnt, but yes they need to figuer out a fix asap, why dont journalist grill them more on it during interviews at E3 and other conventions

Nope the a solution is if you keep your system connected to x-box live. If you disconnect they are the trail versions. You truly don't own them.

Crap :( I wish they would fix this so I can start buying xbla games. :/
Yup same here. :( I don't even use the console anymore because of this. XBLA was THE reason I loved the 360.

Zaraki_Kenpachi said:
"Okay I tried that now, exacty as it says. But no. Still trial versions."

Crap :( I wish they would fix this so I can start buying xbla games. :/
they only way to fix it is to call them and wait the 30+ days while the mechanism transfers the licenses to your new box.

Ridiculous that you have to wait at all but at least it works once complete.

I refused to buy any XBLM content till they fixed my issues.

But this flies in the face of what Mr Killemgood had. No?

So, is it by luck that some people have no problems with the DRM, while others do? Is it because of when they got theirs replaced? Or by region?

Same thing happened to me. With enough bitching, I was able to get them to refund the 1200 points. ( three 400 point games). Be persistent!

I simply still can not believe that their initial answer to this problem was to essentially say go piss up a rope after we went out and purchased a new and improved version of their console with features that weren't available at launch. Awful customer relations.

That is what is so puzzling about it. Some solutions work for some seemingly at random. It makes their whole overly strict DRM policies seem broken, worthless and unfair all at the same time....which only adds to the frustration. Oh...almost forgot their laughable customer support. It is a powder keg of stress.

Just as 3 of my games could not be unlocked even while on online....the other 20+ were fine (well..other than not being able to play offline or by another profile). An obvious glitch
on their end...but I was simply being told "tough shit".

When my 360 eventually gets the RRR, I will simply go out and pick up an Elite Premium version. Fuck waiting and being without my system for weeks on end. Fuck that shit.

That's crazy. Turnaround lately is less than two weeks. Just use the time to catch up on games for your other systems.

Or just rent a temporary 360 from Wal-Mart....for free.

I sent in my repair "order" late on Saturday night, by that Tuesday the empty box was on my doorstep which means they must have over-nighted it on Monday to be there by Tuesday. I just got an email yesterday morning saying my console was sent back. So it took about 6 days for them to send me a box, my box to be sent back to them, and then them to send it back... granted I haven't received it yet... but I'm impressed as hell with the turnaround time.

it's been 5 months and mine was never addressed. It is actually one of the reasons (among many) I just sold my 360. It's really shameful that there is no ironclad way on MSoft's end to fix this. And for the clown saying just connect it to live, that's not acceptable because my wife could not play them.

I guess it is luck..becuase I am still waiting for mine to be fixed.

They have security authorization installed on the hard drive, dvd-rom, and online. They primarily need to start fixing the hard drive authorization which is bound with id number. It could be easily turned into what Sony did with Warhawk, everything primary account bound.

Called them again, gave them my serial and consoel ID number. They said they escalated the case and I should hear back from them in 10-15 days, but I still have a feeling that I will get the run around again because this si the fucking 4th time I've had to call them. If anyway wants to file a class action lawsuit against them for this I'm more than happy to be a part of it, because they need to change this shit.

Remember that it's not just Xbox Live Arcade games that aren't working, it's everything you have bought with Microsoft Points; themes, DLC, XBLA games, even some free stuff.

I am trying to get my content for my replacement Elite that I got Thursday. Today, they asked me to fax the receipt from the exchange I did at Best Buy and they said it will take 10-15 business days to get my content linked to my new console. *sigh*

Yeah, can't use my FSU avatar that I bought either. :(

O heard that one before. good luck. I still haven't gotten any results,

Fuck that, with the Warhawk system if you have other people in the household they can't play the game you bought using their own accounts.

No, your wrong. 10 million people who use Xbox Live every day are wrong, and this one guy who posts on the consumerist is right.
Your right. Xbox/Kwik-E-Mart customer support is simply stellar and all the complaints you see on the internet have been made by Sony fanboys who have never touched a 360.

Get it? I was being sarcastic haha

The whole transfer content over is BS :/ Customer services told me about that a few months back. Never worked.

They said wait 28 days, delete account, recover, then redownload the games = BS + wasted time.

I can't be bothered to go through the ringing up shit again...

:*(

Seriously? The guy I spoke today was pretty clear that I would have this fixed in 10-15 days. If not true, they are clearly lying to people.

Surely that's got to be breaking some consumer law? The Sales of Goods Act in the UK states that a good must be fit for the purpose which it was sold, which your games clearly aren't.

Not sure why they said 10-15 days, the system is automated, once they get the old and new console ID the system is automated, 30 days (to the day in fact).
If they've confirmed to you that they have that information you're stuck waiting 30 days. On the 30th day call them and they'll step you through the final process.

That makes me feel worse. They clearly are not consistent on this.

Man, this isn't really even Microsoft's fault. If all of you bastards would just stop complaining about it, this "DRM issue" wouldn't even be a problem.

;p

yeah, and even worse when nearly every "outsourced" support rep you get gives a different fucking answer, 80% of which is bullshit.

Diablos said:
DRM in general is bullshit, but THIS is just ridiculous, especially given the massive failure rates of Xbox 360's.
QFMFT

Draconian DRM is much less painful if the system is rock solid. Couple hardware that goes up and down like a 2 bit whore with horrible DRM and you have an exercise in frustration.

Yeah, I guess it pays to own more than one system. Well lets hope it doesnt RRoD anytime soon :)

By the way, when you send your system back, does MS require you to send in the hard drive with it? I hope not, because I'd rather keep it and transfer the content over to a newer Elite system.

Fair enough, but the same thing is happening to 360 users with replacement consoles.

There is ZERO excuse for MSoft's behavior on the DRM issue, and I am NOT playing an apologist here, but seriously folks, you SHOULD NOT wait around for MSoft to just fix it for you. If they say 30 days, you should be back on the phone with them AT LEAST after fifteen days, "just to check up on the situation," and so on.

Their behavior is inexcusable, but if you don't want to sit around waiting for five months, you need to be proactive. The fact that they are fucking up, and that it is ENTIRELY their own fault, doesn't get you your games any faster when you sit around leaving the ball in their court.

Just because they are the ones who fucked up doesn't mean that you shouldn't put in any effort. You shouldn't HAVE TO put in any effort, but the squeaky whell gets the grease, and all, and if you keep at harassing them, you'll at least get your personal stuff fixed sooner.

Also, in theory, the more they get harassed, the more likely they'll be to finally fix their shitty DRM, so as to not have to deal with so much harassment.

My6cats said:

Going on 6+ months here. When they say they are going to call you back in 5-10 business days, it's really a code word for "we have your money and aren't going to do shit". I wouldn't expect a phone call.

HAi guys,

Ima call 18004maxbawks right now to fix my xbawks3shitty and I'll report what shitty service I get!

shantyman said:

I agree. Fuck both situations. I would just hate to see Microsoft go to the Warhawk system.

The best solution is the current one except they need to make it fully automatic for all users that have a machine serviced, and they need to eliminate the 30 day wait (or any other wait).

It is currently 10:58am EST

I called at 10:48am EST

The whole call took 10 minutes.

I talked to someone named Sarah who read her script, which I didn't mind, its their job. She told me MS extended their warranty because of RRoD and they'll repair mine for free. She confirmed my shipping address, phone number, etc.

I asked about the DRM issues, she transfered me to Ishmael who told me they fixed the problem. When I get the console, I need to delete and re-download my games. They'll fix the licensing when they ship the new console out.

I'll also get a 1 month free of xbox live.

WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!! OH MY GOOOOOD!!!

I presume at this point you start the pilliaging, raping and burning (and maybe looting)?
disclaimer: *not necessarily in that order

You know what I'd like? The ability to actually download Hexic HD back to my HDD.

Edit: And you're sure they're not setting up a silver account for your games, Mojo?

If not that's BS that they'd offer that to you and not me.

I've called twice, and both times was on the phone for an hour. Why do they say it will be resolved in 30 days and it isn't? Why do they act as if this is not a common support call? Why, after 2 and a half years of burning up consoles have they not devised a fix for this very common issue?

I don't have time to spend hours on the phone, especially when the second time I did rasie hell and they basically told me they would/could not help me. I made it clear I was upset and I have never been contacted by them. I tried emailing Major Nelson, nothing. I have put in effort, including as I said over 2 hours of my time on the phone talking to a damned automaton and an automaton's manager, which got me nowhere.

I'm not trying to be a drama queen about this, but it pisses me off. I've said this in other threads but it is one of the reasons I just sold my 360. I'll still complain though because the situation is a load of bull. A company that simply pisses all over their consumers like Microsoft has does not deserve my support.

Are you a total asshole when you call?

I don't understand how it could take 1 hr.

Even when my first one died years ago and the CS was horrible, it never took an hr.
