MS Memo Confirms Resident Evil 5 for 2008

Capcom rep on the Capcom forums says this:

Official answer: There is no news regarding the release date of Resident Evil 5. In fact, there is no news at all in regards to anything Resident Evil 5 yet.

Non-official answer: I highly doubt that you'll see it this year. In fact, you can almost bet on that. Besides, why would you want to see it released early? Released later = more time to work on it = better game. Pray for a later release than an early one.

Odds of 2008 release are VERY slim, I would say definitely not. No matter what MS says.

On the other hand, does Capcom have anything scheduled for Holidays 08'? It might make sense financially to release the game then.

RE5 is coming in January 09 for sure, this is Capcom.

Any list that doesn't have Ninja Gaiden 2 already fails, as we know that game is going to be out by mid-summer, it's like 90% done. I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

Sad that MS is not even acknowledging Lost Odyssey as one of their heavy hitters, looks like they're just going to send it off into the wild alone a la Blue Dragon.

wait, what?!?! RE5's coming to the 360??? :D

Yea, surely you remember that event a handful of months back, when this was actually secret information, and absolutely, positively, no one knew about it until MS finished their big drumroll and revealed it to everyone!

Ill wait for Capcom first.

But if true, then boy, this will be a wonderful year for horror games.

Silent Hill 5, Resident Evil 5, Alone in the Dark 5, and...thats a lot of 5s...but still, three flagship horror series. Ill gladly buy.
May or may not count... but you might want to throw in House of the Dead 2+3 Return for the Wii... :D

once again not only is the person who wrote the article not reading it correct but now Gaf is not reading it correct.

it only says

in 2008 the hits will continue to come with exclusives including “Halo Wars,” “Too Human,” “Fable 2,” Alan Wake,” “Splinter Cell: Conviction,” and several exciting yet-to-be-announced titles.

RE5 and GTA is not listed in that sentence but below it where it just says
Xbox 360 will be home to the next versions of great franchises like

the person who wrote the article under it just wants it to be otherwise and was blinded by not truly reading the memo.

nothing to see here...

(except Alan Wake!!!)

:lol

Like how they ONLY released Lost Planet last year in Jan in terms of X360/PS3 games...

:lol

Alan Wake will supposedly be a big showcase at the GDC next month.
That would be nice. I was really looking forward to this game, but the lack of info and footage have taken away my hype.

Damn. Well so much for MS having inside info.

Molyneux will also be revealing the rest of the features in Fable 2 at GDC as well.

So Fable 2 and hopefully Alan Wake coverage. Hot Damn!

(I am not replying to Lightning, I am talking to everyone)

Why is there the syllogism that when a game gets postponed, it is really going to be better? Why is there the following syllogism (from many people) "release date later=>better game"????

Let's just take an average game, if it gets postponed for one year, is it really going to become dramatically better (despite some minor rectifications)? Do you think that thanks to a postponement it is really going to become an awesome game (from average)?
What makes you think that the dev-team is going to come up with some freakin awesome ideas (if it gets released later), which (ideas) they cannot think of during the standard dev-schedule. I mean do game-postponements bring teh awesome ideas to developers??

Postponements are primarily a second chance to the dev-team to implement/realise/materialize their initial targets-goals-ideas-thoughts-aims-design-plan of the project. Also postponements are to fix flaws as much as possible. Also postponements are an inevitable solution when the games are scrapped or there is a major change of plans (see Biohazard 2 prototype).

I mean if Biohazard 5 comes out Fall 2008, and if Biohazard 5 comes out Q2 2009 do you think it is going to be dramatically better? The truth is it will have some changes, but do you really believe that is is going to be unbelievably improved?
Changes (via a postponement) don't necessarily make things better, they might make things worse......

Resident evil 5 needs to come out in 2008, we are talking about capcom here, they always release 3 big games in a year...

If they can make umbrella chronicles in a year and a half, they also can release resident evil 5 on 2008.

I really don't see this game hitting this year maybe early next year March or April. I do hope it is released this year damn I love RE4 this should be freaking amazing. What other games can Capcom be working on?!? Maybe Breath of Fire 5 or 6 which ever they are on Mega Man Legends 3 if only wishes came true! :D

UC had more bugs than another other resi game to date. also the majority of content was recycled from previous games.

That'd be hot. RE5 is like this super-game; we know it will be awesome, the only real question is how awesome it will be. Very awesome, or incredibly awesome? I'm betting on the latter.

The entire memo.

This growth, however, is not limited to just Microsoft and Xbox 360. The work that you do is also driving growth throughout our industry’s entire ecosystem. History has shown that the eventual winner of each console generation was the console that generated the most 3rd party revenue, and according to the most recent NPD data, Xbox 360 generated more 3rd party revenue in 2007 than Nintendo and Sony combined.

“Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action” has already achieved its total FY08 revenue budget in just two months, helping establish a new franchise for the Xbox 360 that reaches out to a broad audience of social gamers

Good joB! Scene It is an awesome game.

In 2008 the hits will continue to come with exclusives including “Halo Wars,” “Too Human,” “Fable 2,” Alan Wake,” “Splinter Cell: Conviction,” and several exciting yet-to-be-announced titles. Xbox 360 will be home to the next versions of great franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Resident Evil, and we will continue to be the leading choice for sports fans, with the next editions of Madden and FIFA looking and playing better on our platform.

So much for "The 360 has shot its proverbial exclusive wad!".:lol

Interesting stuf.

Of course the have some exclusives like Too Human and Halo wars but they don't have as many as their competitors.

Eh, I don't buy it. It doesn't sound like a memo. It sounds like a press release to drum up confidence for their '08 line up.

Remedy rocks, Max Payne 1&2 are two of the best action games ever, so it's safe to say that i'm very excited for it. Hopefully it's as good as their previous work, and MS will push it hard.
Its the only reason I'm upgrading to Vista.

I hope so, too. RE4 was awesome, so what you're saying is that you want RE5 to be double awesome, right? That's what you're saying, isn't it? Oh god please let that be what you're saying.

You can't move and shoot at the same time in RE4, its obviously possible to make a better game with earth technology.

I'm a little more concerned with EA's portion . Seems they are not very commited to improving the quality control of their products, even after ANOTHER year of experience with the PS3.

Kind of depressing.

Totally on board with all the Alan Wake anticipation in this thread, but having just bought the Steam rockstar package and just finished playing Max Payne 2, I really really want more Max Payne :(

Max Payne's Journey into the night will continue! .... ?

I'm glad they are branching out from Payne, that team has massive talent and they need to be making new cutting edge franchises.

That being said, I'm sure he'll return sometime in the future.

DS+PSP+Wii+PS2 = Profit for?

360+P3 titles.

I think it's entirely possible for them to only release DMC4 this year, though Bionic Commando may hit the door. Right now they are riding the smaller more profitable waves (PSP, DS, PS2, Wii) to make money, and using this big titles to help push the 360 and PS3 into consumers hands so one day they can pump massive amounts of shovel ware out.

Let's not forget about PSN titles (SSII HD, SPF II HD EU, etc).

Alan Wake Slips to 2009?
Written Tuesday, January 08, 2008 by Dan Webb

Just when you thought 2008 was going great, then you hear a whisper, true or not, we're not sure yet, that brings the virtual world crashing around you. On Sunday, Dean Takahashi posted Microsoft’s Don Mattrick's memo which was sent out to the troops.

In it, it specifically states that Alan Wake will see light of day in 2008 amongst other titles. Don says

'In 2008 the hits will continue to come with exclusives including “Halo Wars,” “Too Human,” “Fable 2,” Alan Wake,” “Splinter Cell: Conviction,” and several exciting yet-to-be-announced titles.'

Look past the "several exciting yet-to-be-announced titles" part for now which certainly intrigued us and you will notice 2008 and Alan Wake in the same sentence. Something we haven't seen for 12 months now.

Today, however, the question is, are our hopes to be smashed already? Well, if we are to believe JeuxFrance.com, then yes. They report that an insider at Finnish development outfit Remedy has already said that we should expect to see the title in 2009. Oh dear... Oh dear indeed.

Nooooo if true.

Far as I know capcom plans to release dmc4, bionic commando and that dark void title this year, with games like sf4/re5/etc being in unknown territory.

pretty much. But seriously after seeing what they've shown of Re 5 so far, id say its very possible for it to be just as good.

One thing's for sure they are going to have hell getting Alan Wake to look and run as it should on the Xbox 360. It sure as hell won be an easy task. That much I know for sure.

2009? What the hell is Remedy doing?
They make some magnificent games but their working tempo is friggin slow. Took them almost four years to make Max Payne 2 which was a six hour game (and a repetitive one at that). Alan Wake is one of the few dream projects in gaming today. Those guys attempt at making a Twin Peaks esque adventure/horror title could be the best thing ever.
