MS: XB1 Kinect won't cost $100,400$ XB1 revealed early because E3 will focus on games

This doesn't make any sense. How does making a 5 second announcement that you're removing the Kinect take away from the focus on games? Still don't know why they are throwing away a month of sales.

Pretty promising that they would reserve bombshells like this before E3.

Looking forward to what they have planned for the show.

You want games? Well here's some fucking games!

Kinectimals 2!

Dance Central 4!

Kinect Adventures 2!

Kinect Star Wars 2!

and one more thing before you leave...

Kinect Flappy Bird!

JK ofc. MS' E3 is shaping up to be a big one. Can't wait.

They've been thinking about it for a year, but told everyone to go ahead and buy it because it would never be unbundled.

Gee, thanks!

Makes sense considering $500 Xbone was a money losing hardware sku.

Now Kinect-less for $400 is profitable and Kinect on its own will have to be profitable. Interesting to see how much it continues to sell. I think its drop off on X360 shows its fad-like interest had already waned.

Where did you get the idea that a Kinect-less X1 is going to be profitable .
MS will be losing money on hardware just like Sony , all the BOM list we see have has X1 costing around PS4 BOM without kinect .
Either way should be good E3.

I am amped up for Microsofts conference. They really seem to be dedicating it all to games this year. Or they're in panic mode from NPD numbers lol.

want so bad.

Hmm, if the focus completely off of Kinect, then I guess I can't expect Usher to sing a song about fucking you until you scream to a bunch of neckbearded games journalists. Sad times.

I personally would of announced it the week leading up to E3, unless they have more pre E3 announcements ?

I wouldn't be surprised. Sunset Overdrive is having it's media week this week which should keep it's name in the news for a few weeks, then they said they had so much stuff they had to cut so I can see them announcing a few small titles and letting them have their media week leading up to E3.

5 seconds is exaggeration. Why not get it out now and fully focus on games? Makes sense to me.May was not going to be great for them anyways, also only us gamers know. The people who dont look on game forums and stuff wont really know till MS advertise it in June. I believe the forza bundles is still around along with titanfall.

I'm actually happy they did. I would rather the conversations June 9th be about the games rather than the policy shifts. Should be a fantastic E3.

Last year was pretty much 90% games. Don't get the reveal and E3 mixed up.
I don't understand why people have the impression that last E3 didn't have games. It was a damn good showing really.

Won't cost exactly $100.

99 then

I think the tech will be cheap enough to were it'll be between 50 and 75.

Part of the problem at launch was the unit was so expensive I think the only way to get it in consumers hands was by bundling it in. I think that's the real reason.

Same way the DRM stuff (and the 180) took away the focus from games last year (especially on message boards and online sites).

Same way this news is dominating the discussion now, as opposed to say, talking about Super Time Force, lol.

Managing the news cycle is a time tested tactic in PR, heh.

I think it's weird that people think it's weird that the new SKU wasn't announced at E3. MS is basically admitting that they made a mistake -- why would they tarnish their E3 presentation with something like that? Get it out of the way now and focus on awesomeness at E3.

It would take less than 2 minutes, which is how fast Microsoft shat out their $499 stinkbomb last year.

This is purely positioning and it obviously works. Any minute they spend talking about anything other than games this year is going to be SOOO AWKWARD I am going to sit there with a stop watch and I WILL HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE with my twitter

Like I get it but it really take 3 minutes to say xbox is now $100 off and it doesn't distract from games message at all so can we just move on already. price drops have been announced at e3 since time immemorial and it really isn't a big deal. i don't understand why this needs to be positioned. this strikes me as 250% message board fodder.

You'd have a point if they hadn't made several announcements today. Kinect-less SKU, Applications no longer behind a paywall, XB1 games being a part of monthly PSN+ like subscription, and Gold membership discounts on XB1 games.

That's quite a bit of stuff to say, especially within a conference setting. So taking that into consideration on top of the fact that Phil Spencer said Microsoft had to make cuts to their conference because they had to many games they wanted to show, it makes sense that they'd announce the stuff now (although I think undercutting your potential so far out from the new SKU's release is kind of dumb, but then again, so would the blow back for not giving new customers warning before buying in),

Holy shit if true

Microsoft really must have a good E3 lined up if they're capable and willing to offload an announcement as big as the Xbox Live changes or the Kinectless SKU before the conference. Not that I have much faith in Microsoft, but I have my fingers crossed. Bring it.

I can't wait to see this incredible, unbroken 90 minute wall of game footage.

The reveal and E3 were separated by 2 weeks so for some people, they bleed into each other. I'm not saying Rebel is guilty of that, he acknowledged it himself.

I think they always had it planned to do this. You cant stay at that price too long.
You think MS always planned to drop the previously mandatory accessory that they've been relentlessly trying to sell us on for the past 12+ months?

Okay then, lol.

These companies can keep swearing about how it's going to be all about the games but when I'm watching 10 minute gameplay demonstrations on CoD 32 and Assiasians Creed 15 I'll know it's bullshit.

I am still wondering why they kill a month of sales. Nintendo did this too with information on price cuts for there system about a month before it would go into effect O_O Still is good to see them be competitive and take action.

I am not sure this will this stop the momentum of the PS4 and Sony can now plan an attack to this for a month (doubt they'll drop the price though, but prepare bundles might be in the cards, etc, etc). But is better to try a strategy than simply do nothing and let Sony gain even MORE ground. I have a feeling this holiday will be quite an interesting one.

So, what? We're looking at sub 75,000 for NPD? Good. Take that ass kicking. Just make sure that when you get up and brush yourself off that you're prepared to fight. It might suck for the faithful out there but fuck that, they needed this ass kicking.
