Hardware is related to gaming. If you don't have hardware, you don't have games.
Is that why the PS2 had no games?

I've always wanted the multimedia capabilities of the Xbone but I'm not paying more than $199 for it. I want the Xbone without the gaming capabilities. As I walk into my livingroom with drink in one hand plate of pizza in the other, "xbox on" it turns on my tv, cable box, av reciever. It recognizes who I am with Hi (my name) and proceeds to show my home screen and the pins I'm interested in. One of my pins was season 2 episode 7 of Orange is the new black on netflix and I would like to continue watching that. "xbox pins, orange is the new black". Boom. This inferior console thing needs to stop.
It'll be interesting for sure to see the holiday numbers this fall/winter as the Xbox gets some games under its belt.
This is disastrous for MS.
US is by far their strongest country and unlike the PS3 they do not have EU and Japan to pick up.
People may not realise but this very much looks like 360 vs PS3 this year.
360 vs PS3 (2007 first 5 months)
1050k vs 665k
385k difference
PS4 vs XB1 (2014 first 5 months)
1320k vs 902k
418k difference
Bearing in mind Sept - Dec is where the 360 really dominated could we be seeing the same gap with PS4 vs XB1.
That's neat and all, but it has absolutely zero to do with, well, playing video games. Which is the real reason people buy video game consoles. And when it comes to games, the PS4 has the better hardware, plain and simple.
You should know by now what people are referring to when they say "inferior system" and it's not Netflix and not even the game library (hopefully). It's the system hardware, and they're not wrong in that sense.
Did anyone even buy an Xbox One in May? They announced that price drop almost a full month before it took effect on June 9.
I wouldn't even bother. Some people seem to be on a mission to really trash the Xbox One and never give it a chance. I understand preferring one console over the other. Never understood the holding onto grudges forever even if there's no intention on buying a console a person doesn't want.
What do you think Sunset Overdrive or the Halo remastered collection can do that Titanfall, the biggest game of the generation, couldn't?

Wasn't the Wii the weakest of consoles last gen? Didn't stop people from buying them and enjoying those games. I know I bought one. Had great fun with it.
100% agreed. I knew this gen would see a contraction, and the market is starting to stabilize itself. It just doesn't have the breadth of game content needed to sustain it at 7th-gen numbers, let alone larger, but that's a problem regarding developers in the industry and/or lack of explosive new tech hitting the masses (VR).I'm going to give my theory on why PS4 might not be doing as well as the PS2... The PS2 was just as much a "right place, right time" boom as the Wii was because it was the first affordable DVD player during the DVD boom. It is possible people bought a PS2 primarily to play DVDs and that its use as a gaming device was merely a bonus feature. It is possible that consoles, because of the PS2's ability to play DVDs and the Wii's unique motion controls bringing gaming to the masses, have had an unnatural boom period and now are returning back to the levels of the sixth generation that the PS1, N64, and Saturn had achieved.
It's inferior hardware, and inferior multiplatform games, their first party software isn't as strong, just a poor value proposition to begin with, pure and simple. Unless they go $299 (which Sony might be able to do before them), they're not going to drastically change their trajectory.Tribalism is part of it. Belonging to a group and trash talking other groups is a big part of human nature. The other part is the network effect, the more people in your network the easier it is to find people to play with so there is a practical incentive for pushing people the same way you are going.
Beyond "grudges" there is also the notion you punish anti consumer behavior and many feel MS has not learned their lesson. MS recinded all the offending policies but have kept the PR line that they know better than you and they never made any mistakes at all, people just didn't give them a chance. That is a really dumb PR tactic which makes them easy to keep hating. In contrast sony was slower to change but they adopted the "we fucked it up, please forgive us! Here are is a regular stream of 'free' games". Even so people still hold a grudge for the ps3 launch and their sin was over pricing and over selling the hardware.
LOL what? Titanfall is fun and all, but it doesn't have the staying power or replay value of Halo.

I disagree with the first party software not being strong I would say xbone has more compelling exclusive games right now such as Titanfall, dead rising 3, ryse, forza, plus this holiday you got sunset overdrive MC collection and forza horizon. I own both by the way![]()

Dead Rising 3, Titanfall and Forza Horizon 2 aren't exclusive to Xbox One.
I agree that XB1 has a superior UI, apps, and the way they have everything blended together. But those things don't sell consoles. People buy consoles to play games. Everything else is just extra.

Regardlesss, it should've sold like crazy and it should've moved consoles like crazy with the amount of marketing MS put behind it and with how much hype that was going for it within that time. Then it would live the rest of its short life shortly, but the sales would've still been done and accounted for. The problem is, it didn't move enough consoles but March NPD for the Xbox One taken on its own and not juxtaposed to any other consoles, the 300k it did would be fine. But the 360 did around 300k on a regular basis without huge system sellers every month and certainly nothing being pushed like Titanfall.
They aren't on playstation I guess I just don't get the hate I'm not really into the console warz brah.
Titanfall is on 360 and PC, Forza Horizon 2 is on 360, and Dead Rising 3 is going to be on PC. You specifically used the word "exclusive" in regards to the Xbox One. You were wrong. Those games aren't exclusive to the Xbox One.

And there are more games, that are on PS4 (or coming to the PS4 this year), but aren't (or won't be) on the Xbone. If you like the games on the Xbone more, no problem. It's your opinionThey aren't on playstation
What time does the NPD results thread go up?

Competition is good so it's hard for me to understand why people want xbox to fail. Do you really want the old playststion arrogance to come back get a second job $599 sony? I know I don't
Your not telling me anything I don't already know lol. I was speaking in regards to not being on playstation. I don't see anyone playing those games on ps4.
And even if they were, they are no system sellers. Average customer cares more about the next calladoodie and other big multiplats. And Titanfall or DR3 should not be considered as a strong lineup imo.Titanfall is on 360 and PC, Forza Horizon 2 is on 360, and Dead Rising 3 is going to be on PC. XB1 doing better than PS3 first year, and a little worse than X360 second year (right after Gears release). This is disastrous for MS.

I'm happy with both consoles and I don't think the xbone is selling terribly bad. Competition is good so it's hard for me to understand why people want xbox to fail. Do you really want the old playststion arrogance to come back get a second job $599 sony? I know I don't

None of those IPs outside of forza and halo is from ms and they don't own any of the IPs you mentioned outside of forza and halo, how many of those do you think will even remain exclusive?I disagree with the first party software not being strong I would say xbone has more compelling exclusive games right now such as Titanfall, dead rising 3, ryse, forza, plus this holiday you got sunset overdrive MC collection and forza horizon. I find it funny how every time the XB1 gets outsold by PS4 people go "it'll be interesting when this happens" and then it gets outsold again and they say "it'll be interesting when this happens" again for a later event.
Saying "interesting" =/= "I know it will outsell the PS4!"
Heh, what has happened these last two pages? Thread took a pretty big console war turn.

Given that you own both, if titanfall 2 comes out on both and there are more players online on ps4, and given the better hardware the game runs smoother and looks better on PS4, wouldn't you buy the PS4 version? Same goes for dead rising which has been multiplatform before.
Yes I do. They gave me a $800 blu-ray player (that is the actual amount it cost Sony to make) for $500 (launch 20GB PS3).
Yes, I want "arrogant" Sony to give me another $800 worth of hardware for $500 that plays 3 generations of games instead of a "barely mid-range PC spec'd game system with no special new media capabilities and no BC...not even PS1 like Vita has".
Hiring Cerny was the best decision for this system, but at $400, the PS4 has less value than my $500 Launch PS3 did.
(I get why they had to change. They're going broke and PS3 cost them lots.)
Is the Xbox still doomed guys or are we talking about something else yet?

So the numbers come out today eh?
I'll play devil's advocate; that was still pretty arrogant in a way, and if not arrogant, oblivious on Sony's part. They overestimated the market's willingness to pay $600 for a video game console. Because despite all those cool features PS3 had (some of which were retroactively removed sadly), it was still first and foremost seen as a video game system. And for a video game system, $600 was out of the question for most people.Eh, if you're going to do that you have to consider PS4/PC and PS4/PS3/Vita titles when looking at the total "exclusives".
By doing that, I think it's tough to say the X1 has the most compelling "exclusives" going by the amount of quality games (metacritics & impressions from gamers everywhere) in all genres. Of course preference in genres and interests are still big factors.
This again? I really hate when this comes up. Thanks for that post BigDug. I remember I used to copy and paste your old post because it was written so well. It perfectly explained how much value was packed into a launch PS3 and why it stupid to continue saying "competition is good so arrogant Sony doesn't come back etc etc".
As a consumer, I look at how much value I'm getting. I don't care about silly quotes. If they can have the cheapest blu-ray player on the market, free online, built in wifi when the competitor charged $100 bucks for an add-on, have backwards compatibility with the PS1/PS2, DTS, the ability to change your HDD while losing ~$200 on every console sold I'm not going to call them "arrogant".
Can you imagine what kind of hardware we would have gotten if they were "arrogant" when the PS4 launched? Blu-ray is cheap now so they could have went all out on high end hardware. And maybe having all of the VR components bundled with a good price compared to the hardware value.
