MULTIPLAYER OVERLOAD 2007

Thinking about all the games I want to get my hands on for multiplayer by the end of the year... It's just excessively ridiculous to the extreme.

If you don't know what I mean...

Warhawk
Halo 3
Unreal Tournament 3
Call of Duty 4
SOCOM Confrontation
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead (this is still 07, right?)
Quake Wars
even the Metal Gear Online beta

It's not even restricted to shooters, there's also

Gran Turismo Prologue
PGR4
Little Big Planet
Virtua Fighter 5 online
Rock Band
Smash Bros.

This is just the stuff I'm personally interested in sinking my teeth into, and I know there's a whole lot more. Anybody else feeling a bit overloaded?

Add World in Conflict, that game has an awesome multiplayer mode.

I think it's good that developers are now making online and multiplayer such a big part of games, I just hope it doesn't detract from good old single player games too much. Then again, seeing Bioshock gives me hope.

Yup, I'm feeling it. At any other time of the year, I would be super hyped for Team Fortress 2, but given its placement between Halo 3, Smash Bros., and CoD4, I just can't see myself having time to play it.

It is too much of an overload. I think I will only be able to pick up a couple to play multi player with. I will try to keep it to only 1 game a platform.

Right now, TF2 is the one I'm looking forward to most. I might give the others a try if I can spare the time.

did nintendo ever confirm whether or not ssb would have an online mode?
Considering Reggie gave a shit-eating grin to someone asking if SSBB will have online in an E3 interview, I think it's pretty likely.

They're pulling a Bungie with SSB.
Some fine folks found out about 4player co-op from the beta build and then Bungie went all hush about it, then slowly talking about 'nah, we're trying to get 2player co-op to work, barely works in lan but OMG 4Player C0OP HERE' :p

Those ones for me, with a maybe on Quake Wars. I think Left 4 Dead is 2008, sadly. :( Not like there won't be plenty mp without it. 4 player halo coop wooooo.

If I had to choose, amongst those two I would go with UT3 without a doubt.

Warhawk is a given. But do you really think UT3 is a better choice? I've never played a UT game before, played all COD games, but I'm seriously getting bored with them, and its hard to get pumped for COD after seeing Killzone2.
I'm just worried I'll be disapointed with UT3, probably because I'll get my ass wiped bad!

UT is one of the best multiplayer franchises ever, and it will have an incredible modding community, even if you're not so into the game for some strange, inconceivable reason

There's a insane amount of stuff to a UT game, almost unparalleled in it's field actually (which is all about mp). If you haven't tried any of the other then there's no better time to jump in than with UT3.

From the little bit of UT3 I've seen I am pumped for it, but on the other hand it looks so chaotic to me. Is it a hard game to pick up? And do you really need to play it with K&M? I have no experience playing a FPS with K&M either!

You'll have no choice now, as anyone with a K&M will own the fuck out of people on controllers. Some games it wouldnt be the case, but UT3 is built for speed. Good luck.

I dunno how it'll play with a controller, but I don't doubt that KB/M would be an advantage

Of all the MP titles coming out this fall, I could see maybe picking up War Hawk and UT3. The only reason I would play COD4 is for SP. The thing is that whatever comes out has to do everything better than Resistance for it to be worth buying for me. Otherwise, it's a waste of money.

The main reason why I would pick up War Hawk is the vehicle/flying combat.

The main reason why I would pick up UT3 is for the mods but also for the vehicles and the gameplay modes plus I've never played an Unreal Tournament game before and the photoage of it reminds of Quake 3, which I loved.

For me it'll only be Resistance, PES7, and Tiger Woods '08. The rest of my games will be single player only (at least what I'll play of them).

What about this thing?

Do you think this thing is a good way to start off? Or am I better off starting with a traditional K&M? And how much does this Frag thingy go for?

UT3 PS3 has server filters for Gamepad, M/K & mixed so no reason to pick one over the other except for personal preference.

Team Fortress 2 & Steam Community is going to be FUCK AMAZING! Hopefully chatroom mics are enabled/fixed by then. Ballin!

UT3 will be fun as well!

I'll be confining myself to mastering those two games. (Emphasis TF2)

Easy to learn, ridiculously difficult to master. Multiplayer is a bit rough in the ealier games, since there isn't any real matchmaking going on, but UT2004 has a great single player mode (for a primarily multiplayer game) where you can get a good grip on the different gametypes/maps/weapons before jumping online.

Considering the speed of previous installments, as well as the aiming precision required, a keyboard/mouse has a huge advantage over a pad. Rocketjumping (shieldjumping, whatever) and the shock rifle in particular would be pretty difficult to master without it.

I think that would be the way to go. I'm getting one for UT3 unless a wireless version is announced b4 then.
