You basically said "anyone who thinks the Beatles were influential is racist."
That song doesn't count cause hes black. Only white people were allowed to revolutionize music before the 70s.
Implication: Nobody would think the Beatles were revolutionary if only they were willing to give credit to black musicians.
Reality: Right off the bat, jazz dominated the popular music scene for much of the first half of the century. I guess in your mind everyone attributed jazz to white musicians too? I feel like you're actually making a totally separate argument from everyone else in the thread, TBH. In any case, while the Beatles (like every other rock musician) obviously owe a lot to black musicians that preceded them, they're not even a good example of a band that blatantly stole shit from them. Most of their early beats are fairly standard rock fare for the era (read: copied from other white musicians who stole from black artists), and their later stuff is influenced much more by classical and Indian music. Since I'm guessing you don't actually listen to jazz, classical music, or the Beatles very much, it probably explains why you're so confused.

That thing being grossly misunderstanding what people say

im sure i forgot more.. dont know crowded house though

my point was the 80s was an amazing decade for music (possibly my favorite) and gets a silly bad rap based on stupid crap that was popular at the time.

These kind of threads are amazing.:lol

queen is one of the worst bands ever

freddie mercury was a talented singer but my god their music is complete cheese.
I enjoy listening to their songs from time to time. But they are not something I'd listen to on a album-to-album basis. They'd get boring fast otherwise.

New heavy metal sucks balls (see The Metal Thread) and shouldn't be called "heavy metal"
Only if you have boring taste!

U2 has been nothing but downhill since Joshua Tree. Way downhill.
I don't think this is controversial.

Metalheads are the most obnoxious and annoying of the music subcultures.
Ironically metalheads are the least annoying music fans on GAF.

Approved.

Check out Crowded House though, I'm sure you've heard some of the singles. Great songwriting.

I only really like metal, mostly death metal.

Not sure if that's a controversial opinion but the genre is certainly not popular.

Most Rappers are not actually musicians (and rap is one of the lowest form of music). They have no sense for chords and tones (although they often times have some sense for rhythm since they have to rhyme in the correct tempo). Its just them rhyming over a beat with samples that they stole from real musicians.

Radiohead make so fucking boring music. Even Coldplay is better.

90 % of Red Hot Chili Peppers songs before Californication is brain dead funk that lacks any attraction. Its bad melodies disguised in boring shitty aggressive slapping and the worst singing that sounds like pure shitty improvisation on the spot.

Most of Bob Dylans acoustic songs sucks ass and the only reason people like them is because of the lyrics or because they need simple music that only involves 1 instrument and they are the same people who cannot understand that 99% of all singer and songwriting is a very simple and dumbed down version of band music.

Prince is a stupid pervert who ruined his career with shitty experimental music that no one beside himself likes except every 20th song where he actually makes a normal song that a normal person can listen too.

Iron Maiden is really boring shitty metal from the 80s that got a completely undeserved revival in the 90s.

Born to Run is one of Bruce Springsteens most boring and pretentious albums.

99 % of all people with Led Zeppelin shirts would for themselves admit after listening to every Led Zeppelin song that 90 % of the songs are kinda unlistenable shitty melodies that are comparable to Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Baam...

Also i do not think one should judge an artist until you heard every album they recorded like 4 times:)

I believe you meant 'such' as opposed to 'so'.

Dislike Radiohead all you want, but saying Coldplay is better is going to make people think you're stupid, not edgy.

p. terrible post but the bolded is sort of obvious, they're vocalists and they aren't playing any instruments. But listen to something like this; rappers can be amazingly talented in the way the manipulate language

Dave Matthews Band > other popular jam bands (REM, Phish, ect.)

Carter Beauford = best drummer in the business

The Arctic Monkeys are the best thing to ever come out of Europe music-wise

Bob Dylan has a terrible, terrible voice and as a result a mediocre music career

John Mayer is a guitar god and should be mentioned right alongside the others (Clapton, ect.)

My main hip hop acts are the Roots, Aesop Rock and the Beastie Boys.

Mostly because there's some real music going on in most of their tracks.

Yeah this thread is pissing me off. I understand opinions, but some of these posts are insane.

"Kanye West has no talent... I've only heard like 3 songs though"

Love the Roots. But sampling is sort of its own art form, it can be so daunting...the Avalanches used samples from a lot of different sources to create a really cool pop album, but the amount of detail it required is just ridiculous

"Kanye West has no talent... I've only heard like 3 songs though"

this thread is less entertaining on atease though, no one wants to shit on the classics

Dumb opinions aren't 'controversial'. Yeah, saying The Beatles suck, that's a solid contrarian standpoint. Bragging about being an ignorant idiot who doesn't understand certain genres is just revealing your clueless inner self.

Ras kass is the greatest lyricist in Hip hop.

Lost tapes is Nas best album.

De la soul are the greatest hip hop of group off all time.

INS > Gza > Ghostface > Method > Raekwon > Rza > ODB > Masta Killah > U-God

oh and Cyndi Lauper is the greatest female singer of all time.

Fergie and her tits are the only redeeming thing about BEP.

Sunglasses At Night is a fantastic 80's song and one of the best from that era of great music.

The kind of sampling The Avalanches does is a lot different from someone like P Diddly taking a song from Synchronicity and rhyming over it and then calling it a day. That kind of shit pisses me off.

These threads always bring out the ignorant people. Always.:lol

Right you are.

I thought this was supposed to be a controversial thread? Cause everything you say is spot on

Jazz as a genre is both more compositionally interesting and more expressive than most of the work produced by the classical titans of the past several centuries.

Yeah but nobody really likes P Diddy

Is this really controversial? Seems like a straight-up opinion.

Metallica should've kept Dave.

Morrissey is tiresome at best. I'm not a fan or anything, but poor Marr.

I reckon that about 10 % of Bob Dylan's fans actually like his music. The rest just decorate their itunes library with it.

Glam Pantera was totally rad, serious.

I'm convinced nobody actually LIKES In An Aeroplane Over the Sea. They just say they do to troll me and to fit in with a certain kind of crowd.
